THEN WE GOT ON TO ROCK AUTO DOT COM TO SEE IF THEY HAD DASH COVERS FOR SALE, AND THEY DO FOR NEW AND OLD VEHICLES, ALL MAKES AND MODELS. SO THIS THING GOES ON WITH A LITTLE ADHESIVE. MAC WE'RE GONNA SPRAY BOTH SIDES OF THIS GASKET WITH A LITTLE BIT OF GASKET SEALANT GASKET TACK, AND IT JUST HELPS THE GASKET SEAL A LOT BETTER TO BOTH SURFACES, THE WATER PUMP AND THE TIMING COVER. THE WE'LL PUT THIS ON AND MAKE SURE THE WEEP HOLE'S AT THE BOTTOM.

WHAT THAT WILL DO IS THAT WILL LET A LITTLE BIT OF WATER THROUGH IT, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY IT WILL ACTUALLY LET AIR THROUGH IT AND IT'LL ACTUALLY HELP BLEED THE SYSTEM SO YOU DON'T GET AIR LOCK. AND IT'S QUITE SIMPLY JUST TAKE THE ACTUAL THERMOSTAT ITSELF AND YOU'RE GONNA DRILL AN EIGHTH INCH HOLE IN IT. WITH THE THERMOSTAT IN WE'RE READY TO DROP IN THE BRAND NEW RADIATOR FROM ROCK AUTO DOT COM. IT'S A DIRECT FIT FOR THE DODGE, AND WE'VE ATTACHED A SHROUD TO HELP WITH COOLING. FRESH HOSES FINISH IT OFF.

(PAT)>> AT IDLE, WHICH IT'S IDLING NICE, BUT IT HAS ABOUT 17 DEGREES OF LEAD. NORMALLY THESE CARS HAVE BETWEEN LITERALLY FOUR AND EIGHT FOR THESE TYPE OF CARS. SO WE CAN BUMP THAT DOWN A LITTLE BIT. THIS DISTRIBUTOR HAS 24 DEGREES OF CENTRIFUGAL ADVANCE. SO WITH THE INITIAL TIMING SET AT SIX DEGREES AT IDLE WE'LL SEE A TOTAL OF 30 REVVED UP. THAT'S WAY BETTER. THAT'S ABOUT 30 AND A HALF FOR TIMING. NOW THAT IS GOING TO MAKE THE CAR RUN A LOT BETTER. IT WILL START EASIER WHEN IT'S HOT IS THE BIGGEST THING.

(MIKE)>> THIS CAMARO'S MAIN PURPOSE IS GOING TO BE CARVING CORNERS. NOW WITH THAT BEING SAID, A FUEL TANK OR CELL NEEDS TO HAVE PROPER BAFFLING. IF NOT THE FUEL WILL RUN AWAY FROM THE PICK UP AREA AND CAUSE A FUEL STARVATION ISSUE. NOW OUR CELL ACTUALLY HAS A PICK UP BUT THERE IS NO BAFFLING WHAT SO EVER INSIDE. (PAT)>> IT'S CALLED HYDRO MAT, AND IT'S HOLLEY'S PATENT PENDING DESIGN THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM THAT'S TYPICALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TRADITIONAL FUEL PICK UPS IN STOCK TANKS AS WELL AS FUEL CELLS. THE SECRET IS SURFACE TENSION AND FLUID WICKING, WHICH GIVES THIS PIECE OF MATERIAL THE ABILITY TO DRAW FROM ANY AREA OF THE MAT THAT HAS CONTACT WITH THE FUEL, AND THEN STORES IT IN AN INTERNAL RESERVOIR. FROM THERE THIS HOSE AND FITTING WILL ATTACH TO THE HYDRO MAT. THE OTHER END WILL GO TO THE PICK UP ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL CELL. NOW THE PICK UP IS WHERE THE FUEL SUPPLIES THE PUMP AND THE ENGINE, AND TO KEEP THE MAT FROM SLOSHING AROUND INSIDE THE CELL DURING CORNERING HOLLEY SELLS THIS COOL LITTLE KIT TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. IT USES THREADED STUDS AND A SPECIAL EPOXY THAT LETS THE STUDS STICK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK, AND THEY ARE FUEL SAFE.

(PAT)>> THE PICK UP LINE IS ATTACHED TO THE EARL'S DASH 10 SWIVEL SEAL FITTING. THIS CELL'S VENT, WHICH ALSO DOUBLES AS A ROLL OVER CHECK VALVE, GETS ITS DASH EIGHT LINE AND FITTING, WHICH WILL RUN THROUGH A GROMMETED HOLE IN THE TRUNK FLOOR TO OPEN ATMOSPHERE. NOW THE RETURN LINE FROM THE REGULATOR ATTACHES TO THE RETURN FITTING ON THE CELL. UP FRONT THE FINAL CONNECTION GOES TO THE REGULATOR'S BOTTOM PORT, WHICH IS THE RETURN.

(MIKE)>> IT'S IMPORTANT TO TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN BUILDING A FUEL SYSTEM. NOW YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THE LINES ARE AROUND HIGH HEAT SOURCES, AND THEY'RE NOT TOUCHING ANY SHARP OR ROUGH EDGES. ONE SCREW UP HERE AND YOU'LL SEE FLAMES DESTROYING YOUR INVESTMENT. NOW SOMETHING ELSE TO KEEP IN MIND IS MAKING SURE YOU USE QUALITY COMPONENTS. EVERYTHING WE USED IN THIS ENTIRE SETUP CAME FROM A HOLLEY PERFORMANCE BRAND. THAT GOES FOR THE FITTINGS, THE LINE, THE REGULATOR, PUMP, AND CARBURETOR.

(PAT)>> BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF OUR JONES DRIVE SYSTEM WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO RELOCATE THE WATER NECK DIFFERENT THAN WHEN WE RAN IT ON THE DYNO. NOW THIS BLOCK IS REVERSE COOLED LIKE AN LS. SO A SPECIAL SETUP HAS TO BE RUN. WATER EXITS THE BLOCK FROM THE CENTER FREEZE PLUG HOLE AND COMES UP THESE DASH 16 LINES TO THIS WATER NECK, WHICH WILL HOUSE OUR THERMOSTAT HOUSING. NOW WE'RE GONNA MOUNT IT TO THE CYLINDER HEAD VIA THIS MYSTERY ALTERNATOR BRACKET THAT WE FOUND AND MODIFIED.

ARP FASTENERS WILL SECURE IT TO ITS FINAL RESTING PLACE.

(PAT)>> IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE. WE'RE GONNA TAKE AND REPLACE THE STOCK CAMARO'S STEERING COLUMN WITH THIS FLAMING RIVER 33 INCH MUSCLE CAR FLOOR SHIFT COLUMN WITH TILT. NOW THIS IS A DIRECT FIT FROM '70 TO '78 CAMAROS AND FIREBIRDS, AND COMPLIMENTING THAT IS THIS 13.5 INCH "D" SHAPED STEERING WHEEL. IT'S DESIGNED FOR MAXIMUM CLEARANCE ON THE DRIVER, AND THE NICE THING IS IT'S WRAPPED IN GENUINE ITALIAN LEATHER. REMOVING THE STEERING COLUMN IS A NO BRAINER. IT WILL TAKE YOU ABOUT 30 MINUTES WITH THE PROPER TOOLS IN HAND.

BEING A DIRECT REPLACEMENT, THE NEW COLUMN WILL BOLT RIGHT IN. IT EVEN ACCEPTS THE FACTORY WIRING CONNECTOR FOR ALL THE FUNCTIONS IT TAKES CARE OF. TO MATE THE WATERFALL WHEEL TO THE COLUMN WE HAVE TO USE AN ADAPTER. NOW MAKE SURE WHEN ORDERING THAT THE SHAFT DIAMETER AND THE SPLINE COUNT ARE CORRECT. THE FIRST THING WE'RE GONNA DO HERE IS GET THE CANCELING CAM INSTALLED. NOW WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS PROPERLY SO THE HORN DOES NOT BLOW WHEN YOU'RE TURNING THE WHEEL. FIRST THIS ALUMINUM SPACER WILL SLIDE ON THE COLUMN SHAFT. THEN THE CANCELING CAM SPRING GOES ON. NOW THE CANCELING CAM IS SLID OVER THE SHAFT SPRING AND SPACER. THE LAST PIECE BEFORE THE ADAPTER IS A SHORT ALUMINUM SPACER. FOR PROPER OPERATION FLAMING RIVER WANTS THE STEM OF THE CANCELING CAM BETWEEN THE 10 AND 11 O'CLOCK POSITION AS THE ADAPTER IS PUT ON THE SHAFT.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, MAKE SURE THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR GEAR IS WELL LUBRICATED. PERTRONIX FLAMETHROWER DISTRIBUTORS HAVE A POLISHED BILLET ALUMINUM HOUSING THAT CAN BE ORDERED WITH EITHER A RED OR BLACK DISTRIBUTOR CAP, AND THIS ONE HAS A VACUUM ADVANCE THAT IS EQUIPPED WITH A LOCKOUT PROVISION IF YOU WANT TO RUN IT IN THAT CONFIGURATION.
