IT BELONGS TO RISLONE, AND PAT AND I WERE HANDED THE KEYS TO CREATE A SWEEPSTAKES CAR THAT'S SUPER RELIABLE AND MAKES BIG POWER JUST SO ONE OF YOU CAN PARK IT IN YOUR GARAGE. MUSTANGS HAVE IT ALL IN MY OPINION. THE COYOTE ENGINE PLATFORM HAS PROVEN ITSELF IN ALL TYPES OF RACING, AND HAS EXCELLENT STREET RELIABILITY EVEN WHEN PUSHED TO THE LIMITS. INSIDE IS A SUPER COMFORTABLE COCKPIT THAT'S VERY ATTRACTIVE. NOW THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT HAS A FACTORY PUSH BUTTON START, AS WELL AS TOGGLE SWITCHES TO GIVE IT A RACIER LOOK AND FEEL. A TOUCH SCREEN HEAD UNIT HAS SO MANY OPTIONS IT'S HARD TO FOLLOW. WHAT'S NOT HARD TO FOLLOW IS HOW FAR THE MUSTANG HAS COME SINCE 1964.

NOW LOOSEN THE CALIPER BOLTS AND REMOVE THE CALIPERS, FOLLOWED BY THE ROTORS. THE BACKING PLATES ALSO COME OFF, ALONG WITH THE FACTORY STRUT. [ impact drill spinning ]
(PAT)>> NOW THE SWAY BAR BRACKETS ARE LOOSENED, AND FROM UNDERNEATH THE SPLASH GUARD IS REMOVED. THAT GIVES US THE ACCESS TO FISH THE SWAY BAR OUT.
(MIKE)>> A SWAY BAR, OR STABILIZER BAR, IS AN ACTUAL TORSION BAR. NOW ITS PURPOSE IS TO REDUCE BODY ROLL BY CONNECTING THE SUSPENSION MOVEMENT OF THE WHEELS AT THE FRONT OR REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NOW ITS MAIN JOB IS TO REDUCE THAT BODY ROLL DURING CORNERING. THE FACTORY BAR IS 32 MILLIMETERS IN DIAMETER. THE FORD RACING BAR IS 37 MILLIMETERS. NOW A THICKER, STIFFER BAR WILL REDUCE BODY ROLL AND DISTRIBUTE THE TURNING EFFORT MORE EVENLY ACROSS BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. INSTALLING IT TAKES A LITTLE PATIENCE TO GET IT POSITIONED. FOR INSTALLATION THEY COME WITH NEW BUSHINGS AND BRACKETS. THE FACTORY HARDWARE IS REUSED. THESE FORD RACING STRUTS ARE ENGINEERED AND DESIGNED BY FORD PERFORMANCE ENGINEERS. NOW THEY'RE MADE TO WORK WITH THE TRACK PACK WITH THE ONE INCH RIDE HEIGHT DROP. THEY COME PREASSEMBLED, SO NO SPRING COMPRESSORS OR SPECIAL TOOLS ARE NEEDED FOR ASSEMBLY. THEY ATTACH TO THE STRUT TOWER FIRST AND ARE SECURED WITH NEW NUTS FROM THE KIT. NOW THE SPINDLE IS POSITIONED TO THE STRUT AND SECURED WITH THE ORIGINAL SPLINED FASTENERS. NOW THE NUTS ARE TORQUED TO 184 POUND FEET. THE END LINKS CAN BE ATTACHED TO THE STRUT AND THE OTHER END TO THE SWAY BAR. WE'RE GOING FOR A STIFFER, MORE AGGRESSIVE HANDLING FEEL. SO WE'LL USE THE HOLE CLOSEST TO THE BAR.
(PAT)>> OUR NEW BRAKE SYSTEM HAS A ONE INCH LARGER ROTOR DIAMETER, AND THAT IS GONNA DECREASE OUR STOPPING DISTANCE IN A SIGNIFICANT WAY, BUT BEFORE WE CAN PUT THESE ON A NEW BACKING PLATE NEEDS TO GO IN PLACE. NOW THE MASSIVE 15 INCH ROTOR IS PLACED ON THE STUDS. THE CALIPER ATTACHES TO THE SAME MOUNTING POINTS AS THE OLD ONE, AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM ON THE CORRECT SIDE. THE BLEEDERS POINT UP. FINALLY THE BRAKE LINE CAN GO ON. AFTER IT'S ATTACHED TO THE CALIPER, ATTACH IT TO THE HARD LINE. DOING IT THIS WAY KEEPS FLUID FROM GETTING ALL OVER THE CALIPER WHEN SCREWING IN THE BANJO BOLT. NOW THAT'S A BIG BRAKE KIT.
(MIKE)>> WHEN YOU BUY A TIRE AND WHEEL PACKAGE FROM LMR THEY ARRIVE TO YOU EXACTLY HOW YOU SEE THEM, MOUNTED, BALANCED, AND TPMS SENSORS INSTALLED. NOW SPLINED LUG NUTS ARE ALSO INCLUDED TO SECURE THEM. THE TIRES UP FRONT ARE 255/35 20'S. THAT WRAPS EVERYTHING UP ON THE FRONT. WE'LL BE BACK IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES.

FOR THAT WE HAVE SHOCKS, SPRINGS, SWAY BAR, TOE LINK, AND BUSHINGS. NOW PER THE DETAILED FORD INSTRUCTION MANUAL THE TAIL PIPES AND MUFFLERS ARE THE FIRST THING TO GO. SO LET'S GET THEM OUT. THE EXHAUST HANGERS ARE THE FIRST THINGS TO BE UNBOLTED. THEN TWO CLAMPS ARE LOOSENED ON THE MID PIPES, AND THE ASSEMBLY COMES OUT. A SCREW JACK IS PLACED UNDER THE CONTROL ARM, AND THE TWO LOWER SHOCK ABSORBER BOLTS CAN BE REMOVED. THEN THE TOP TWO, AND IT COMES OUT. NEXT TO BE REMOVED IS THE BRAKE CALIPER, FOLLOWED BY THE ROTOR. THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IS ALSO UNBOLTED AND LAID TO THE SIDE. THE SAME GOES FOR THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. NOW WE CAN MARK THE ALIGNMENT CAM'S LOCATION SO THEY GO BACK IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE FOR ALIGNMENT PURPOSES. NOW TWO BOLTS ARE REMOVED, WHICH FREE UP THE TOE LINK. THE SWAY BAR IS UNBOLTED FROM THE END LINK, AND THE LOWER INTEGRAL LINK BOLT IS REMOVED. NOW THE FORWARD LOWER CONTROL ARM TO FRAME BOLT COMES OUT, ALONG WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARM TO FRAME BOLT. NOW THE SPRING IS PULLED OUT AND THE CONTROL ARM DROPS OUT OF PLACE. THE LAST PART TO BE REMOVED IS THE SWAY BAR.
(PAT)>> NEXT THE TOE BEARING GETS REPLACED IN THE REAR KNUCKLE. NOW THE FACTORY ONE HAS RUBBER INSIDE OF IT, AND THE NEW HANDLING PACK ONE IS AN IMPROVED DELRIN DESIGN. NOW THE EASIEST WAY TO GET IT OFF THE CAR IS WITH A BALL JOINT PRESS. IT'S PLACED OVER THE KNUCKLE AND FORCES THE BUSHING OUT AS THE JACK SCREW IS TURNED. BONANZA! THE NEW ONE GOES IN USING THE PRESS AS WELL. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS ALIGNED AS IT IS FORCED INTO THE KNUCKLE. SOMEWHERE IN THERE. THAT LOOKS LIKE A PRO DID IT. SO TODAY WE'RE GONNA EDUCATE ON COMMON BOLT SIZES AND THREAD PITCH IN INCH BASED AND METRIC THREADS. BOLT GRADING REFERS TO THE FASTENERS TENSILE STRENGTH AND PSI, MEANING THE AMOUNT OF FORCE IT TAKES TO PULL ON THE FASTENER UNTIL IT COMES APART. BOTH INCH BASED AND METRIC BOLTS HAVE MARKINGS ON THE BOLT HEAD THAT WILL TELL YOU WHAT GRADE THEY ARE. THE HIGHER THE GRADE NUMBER, THE HIGHER THE TENSILE STRENGTH. ALSO BOLT DIAMETER COMES INTO PLAY IN THE RATING. SO STARTING WITH INCH BASED BOLTS, A HEAD WITH NO MARKINGS IS CONSIDERED A GRADE TWO. IT HAS A MINIMUM TENSILE STRENGTH OF 74,000 PSI UP TO A THREE QUARTER INCH DIAMETER, AND THE SAME GRADE TWO BOLT FROM SEVENEIGHTHS TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER IS RATED AT A LOWER 60,000 PSI. THE EQUIVALENT METRIC BOLT WOULD HAVE A FIVE POINT EIGHT MARKED ON THE HEAD. NEXT IF AN INCH BASED BOLT HAS THREE HASH MARKS ON ITS HEAD IT'S A GRADE FIVE. THESE HAVE A MINIMUM TENSILE STRENGTH OF 120,000 PSI FROM ONE QUARTER TO ONE INCH IN DIAMETER, AND OVER ONE INCH TO ONE AND HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER IT GOES TO 105,000 PSI. ITS METRIC EQUIVALENT WOULD HAVE AN EIGHT POINT EIGHT ON ITS HEAD. FINALLY SIX HASH MARKS ON THE INCH BASED BOLT HEAD INDICATES THAT IT'S A GRADE EIGHT. THESE BOLTS HAVE 150,000 PSI TENSILE STRENGTH FROM QUARTER INCH ALL THE WAY UP TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER. A METRIC BOLT OF THE SAME GRADE WILL HAVE A 10.9 ON ITS BOLT HEAD. NOW LET'S TALK THREAD PITCH. USA INCH BASED BOLT THREADS ARE COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS JUST COARSE AND FINE, BUT TECHNICALLY SPEAKING THEY ARE UNDER SOMETHING CALLED UNIFIED THREAD STANDARD. COARSE THREADS, FORMERLY KNOWN AS USS, ARE NOW UNIFIED NATIONAL COARSE AND FINE THREADS PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS SAE ARE NOW UNIFIED NATIONAL FINE. THE COARSE AND FINE REFERS TO THE AMOUNT OF THREADS PER INCH ON THE SHANK OF THE BOLT. METRIC BOLTS USE A DIFFERENT STYLE THREAD PITCH TO EXPRESS THE AMOUNT OF THREADS ON THEM. NOW LOOSEN THE CALIPER BOLTS AND REMOVE THE CALIPERS, FOLLOWED BY THE ROTORS. THE BACKING PLATES ALSO COME OFF, ALONG WITH THE FACTORY STRUT. [ impact drill spinning ]
(PAT)>> NOW THE SWAY BAR BRACKETS ARE LOOSENED, AND FROM UNDERNEATH THE SPLASH GUARD IS REMOVED. THAT GIVES US THE ACCESS TO FISH THE SWAY BAR OUT.
(MIKE)>> A SWAY BAR, OR STABILIZER BAR, IS AN ACTUAL TORSION BAR. NOW ITS PURPOSE IS TO REDUCE BODY ROLL BY CONNECTING THE SUSPENSION MOVEMENT OF THE WHEELS AT THE FRONT OR REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NOW ITS MAIN JOB IS TO REDUCE THAT BODY ROLL DURING CORNERING. THE FACTORY BAR IS 32 MILLIMETERS IN DIAMETER. THE FORD RACING BAR IS 37 MILLIMETERS. NOW A THICKER, STIFFER BAR WILL REDUCE BODY ROLL AND DISTRIBUTE THE TURNING EFFORT MORE EVENLY ACROSS BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. INSTALLING IT TAKES A LITTLE PATIENCE TO GET IT POSITIONED. FOR INSTALLATION THEY COME WITH NEW BUSHINGS AND BRACKETS. THE FACTORY HARDWARE IS REUSED. THESE FORD RACING STRUTS ARE ENGINEERED AND DESIGNED BY FORD PERFORMANCE ENGINEERS. NOW THEY'RE MADE TO WORK WITH THE TRACK PACK WITH THE ONE INCH RIDE HEIGHT DROP. THEY COME PREASSEMBLED, SO NO SPRING COMPRESSORS OR SPECIAL TOOLS ARE NEEDED FOR ASSEMBLY. THEY ATTACH TO THE STRUT TOWER FIRST AND ARE SECURED WITH NEW NUTS FROM THE KIT. NOW THE SPINDLE IS POSITIONED TO THE STRUT AND SECURED WITH THE ORIGINAL SPLINED FASTENERS. NOW THE NUTS ARE TORQUED TO 184 POUND FEET. THE END LINKS CAN BE ATTACHED TO THE STRUT AND THE OTHER END TO THE SWAY BAR. WE'RE GOING FOR A STIFFER, MORE AGGRESSIVE HANDLING FEEL. SO WE'LL USE THE HOLE CLOSEST TO THE BAR.
(PAT)>> OUR NEW BRAKE SYSTEM HAS A ONE INCH LARGER ROTOR DIAMETER, AND THAT IS GONNA DECREASE OUR STOPPING DISTANCE IN A SIGNIFICANT WAY, BUT BEFORE WE CAN PUT THESE ON A NEW BACKING PLATE NEEDS TO GO IN PLACE. NOW THE MASSIVE 15 INCH ROTOR IS PLACED ON THE STUDS. THE CALIPER ATTACHES TO THE SAME MOUNTING POINTS AS THE OLD ONE, AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THEM ON THE CORRECT SIDE. THE BLEEDERS POINT UP. FINALLY THE BRAKE LINE CAN GO ON. AFTER IT'S ATTACHED TO THE CALIPER, ATTACH IT TO THE HARD LINE. DOING IT THIS WAY KEEPS FLUID FROM GETTING ALL OVER THE CALIPER WHEN SCREWING IN THE BANJO BOLT. NOW THAT'S A BIG BRAKE KIT.
(MIKE)>> WHEN YOU BUY A TIRE AND WHEEL PACKAGE FROM LMR THEY ARRIVE TO YOU EXACTLY HOW YOU SEE THEM, MOUNTED, BALANCED, AND TPMS SENSORS INSTALLED. NOW SPLINED LUG NUTS ARE ALSO INCLUDED TO SECURE THEM. THE TIRES UP FRONT ARE 255/35 20'S. THAT WRAPS EVERYTHING UP ON THE FRONT. WE'LL BE BACK IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES.
(MIKE)>> WE'RE BACK AND JUST FINISHED UP THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND BIG BRAKE KIT ON THE RISLONE MUSTANG SWEEPSTAKES CAR. NOW IT'S TIME TO TAKE CARE OF SOME UPGRADES AT THE REAR SUSPENSION. FOR THAT WE HAVE SHOCKS, SPRINGS, SWAY BAR, TOE LINK, AND BUSHINGS. NOW PER THE DETAILED FORD INSTRUCTION MANUAL THE TAIL PIPES AND MUFFLERS ARE THE FIRST THING TO GO. SO LET'S GET THEM OUT. THE EXHAUST HANGERS ARE THE FIRST THINGS TO BE UNBOLTED. THEN TWO CLAMPS ARE LOOSENED ON THE MID PIPES, AND THE ASSEMBLY COMES OUT. A SCREW JACK IS PLACED UNDER THE CONTROL ARM, AND THE TWO LOWER SHOCK ABSORBER BOLTS CAN BE REMOVED. THEN THE TOP TWO, AND IT COMES OUT. NEXT TO BE REMOVED IS THE BRAKE CALIPER, FOLLOWED BY THE ROTOR. THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IS ALSO UNBOLTED AND LAID TO THE SIDE. THE SAME GOES FOR THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. NOW WE CAN MARK THE ALIGNMENT CAM'S LOCATION SO THEY GO BACK IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE FOR ALIGNMENT PURPOSES. NOW TWO BOLTS ARE REMOVED, WHICH FREE UP THE TOE LINK. THE SWAY BAR IS UNBOLTED FROM THE END LINK, AND THE LOWER INTEGRAL LINK BOLT IS REMOVED. NOW THE FORWARD LOWER CONTROL ARM TO FRAME BOLT COMES OUT, ALONG WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARM TO FRAME BOLT. NOW THE SPRING IS PULLED OUT AND THE CONTROL ARM DROPS OUT OF PLACE. THE LAST PART TO BE REMOVED IS THE SWAY BAR.
(PAT)>> NEXT THE TOE BEARING GETS REPLACED IN THE REAR KNUCKLE. NOW THE FACTORY ONE HAS RUBBER INSIDE OF IT, AND THE NEW HANDLING PACK ONE IS AN IMPROVED DELRIN DESIGN. NOW THE EASIEST WAY TO GET IT OFF THE CAR IS WITH A BALL JOINT PRESS. IT'S PLACED OVER THE KNUCKLE AND FORCES THE BUSHING OUT AS THE JACK SCREW IS TURNED. BONANZA! THE NEW ONE GOES IN USING THE PRESS AS WELL. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS ALIGNED AS IT IS FORCED INTO THE KNUCKLE. SOMEWHERE IN THERE. THAT LOOKS LIKE A PRO DID IT. FORD PERFORMANCE'S SPRING AND THE STOCK CONTROL ARM ARE TACKLED NEXT. WE'RE GONNA BE OUT OF TRAVEL HERE ANY SEC.

HAVING THE CORRECT BOLT FOR THE APPLICATION IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL, AND EVERY INDUSTRY HAS SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR BOLTS, BUT USING THE WRONG BOLT AT THE WRONG TIME CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS, OR THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, EVEN FATAL. SO TODAY WE'RE GONNA EDUCATE ON COMMON BOLT SIZES AND THREAD PITCH IN INCH BASED AND METRIC THREADS. BOLT GRADING REFERS TO THE FASTENERS TENSILE STRENGTH AND PSI, MEANING THE AMOUNT OF FORCE IT TAKES TO PULL ON THE FASTENER UNTIL IT COMES APART. BOTH INCH BASED AND METRIC BOLTS HAVE MARKINGS ON THE BOLT HEAD THAT WILL TELL YOU WHAT GRADE THEY ARE. THE HIGHER THE GRADE NUMBER, THE HIGHER THE TENSILE STRENGTH. THE EQUIVALENT METRIC BOLT WOULD HAVE A FIVE POINT EIGHT MARKED ON THE HEAD. NEXT IF AN INCH BASED BOLT HAS THREE HASH MARKS ON ITS HEAD IT'S A GRADE FIVE. THESE HAVE A MINIMUM TENSILE STRENGTH OF 120,000 PSI FROM ONE QUARTER TO ONE INCH IN DIAMETER, AND OVER ONE INCH TO ONE AND HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER IT GOES TO 105,000 PSI. ITS METRIC EQUIVALENT WOULD HAVE AN EIGHT POINT EIGHT ON ITS HEAD. FINALLY SIX HASH MARKS ON THE INCH BASED BOLT HEAD INDICATES THAT IT'S A GRADE EIGHT. THESE BOLTS HAVE 150,000 PSI TENSILE STRENGTH FROM QUARTER INCH ALL THE WAY UP TO ONE AND A HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER. A METRIC BOLT OF THE SAME GRADE WILL HAVE A 10.9 ON ITS BOLT HEAD. NOW LET'S TALK THREAD PITCH. USA INCH BASED BOLT THREADS ARE COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS JUST COARSE AND FINE, BUT TECHNICALLY SPEAKING THEY ARE UNDER SOMETHING CALLED UNIFIED THREAD STANDARD. COARSE THREADS, FORMERLY KNOWN AS USS, ARE NOW UNIFIED NATIONAL COARSE AND FINE THREADS PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS SAE ARE NOW UNIFIED NATIONAL FINE. THE COARSE AND FINE REFERS TO THE AMOUNT OF THREADS PER INCH ON THE SHANK OF THE BOLT. METRIC BOLTS USE A DIFFERENT STYLE THREAD PITCH TO EXPRESS THE AMOUNT OF THREADS ON THEM. THE HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE MORE COARSE THE THREAD COUNT, AND THAT'S BECAUSE THE THREAD PITCH IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE THREADS IN MILLIMETERS.
