THE TRANSFORMATION OF OUR 2013 RAM 2500 TRADESMAN PICK UP. NOW WE'RE TURNING THIS INTO A BIG RIG INSPIRED SHOP TRUCK TO USE AROUND HERE IN THE XOR SHOP. NOW THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS TODAY IS TO DITCH A WHOLE BUNCH OF STOCK PARTS.

(IAN)>> THE FIRST JOB WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF ON OUR PICK UP IS TO UPGRADE THE SUSPENSION. WE WANT TO GET IT SITTING UP JUST A LITTLE BIT HIGHER. NOW BDS SUSPENSION HAS FULLY EMBRACED THE RAM HEAVY DUTY SERIES TRUCK, AND THEY HAVE KITS FROM THREE INCH ALL THE WAY UP TO MONSTER LONG ARM EIGHT INCH KITS IF YOU'RE TRYING TO BUILD A MONSTER TRUCK. WE'RE BUILDING A WORK TRUCK, SO WE OPTED FOR THE THREE INCH KIT. PART OF THE KIT IS THE CONICAL PROGRESSIVE RATE DIESEL SPECIFIC COIL SPRING. YOU CAN SEE THAT IT'S FATTER AT THE BOTTOM THAT IT IS AT THE TOP, AND THAT'S WHAT STILL GIVES US A NICE SMOOTH RIDE. THE PROGRESSIVE RATE, OR STIFFER WINDINGS AT THE TOP OF THE SPRING, STILL GIVE THE TRUCK THE ABILITY TO ABSORB HARSH POT HOLES WHEN YOU'RE OUT ON THE ROAD. THAT ONE BIG HIT THAT OVERRIDES THE SOFT POINT OF THE SPRING WILL BE ABSORBED BY THE STIFF PART. THAT GIVES US THE ABILITY TO HAVE A LIFTED TRUCK AND STILL HAVE A FACTORY TYPE RIDE. NOW THE CONTROL ARMS ARE REPLACED WITH NEW PIECES THAT ARE NOT ONLY GREASABLE, THEY'RE ALSO FULLY REBUILDABLE WITH KITS AVAILABLE FROM BDS SUSPENSION. SO IF WE PUT A PILE OF MILES ON OUR TRUCK, WE CAN REBUILD THE ARMS WITHOUT HAVING TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THEM.
TO KEEP OUR ALIGNMENT ANGLES IN CHECK A NEW HEAVY DUTY FULLY ADJUSTABLE TRACK BAR WILL GO UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF OUR TRUCK, AND THE LIFT OUT BACK IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH SOME LIFT BLOCKS AND NEW UBOLTS.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO NOW IS PUT ALL THESE PARTS ON OUR TRUCK. WORKING ON ONE SIDE OF THE TRUCK AT A TIME, THE NEW CONTROL ARMS ARE INSTALLED UTILIZING ALL OF THE FACTORY HARDWARE. WE MAKE SURE TO LEAVE ALL THESE MOUNTING BOLTS LOOSE FOR NOW. WITH THE STOCK SHOCKS REMOVED THE NEW SPRINGS ARE INSTALLED, BAM!
WE'LL ADJUST THE LENGTH OF THE NEW TRACK BAR TO THE SUGGESTED LENGTH FOR THE AMOUNT OF LIFT THAT WE'RE
INSTALLING, AND THE TRACK BAR IS INSTALLED ALONG WITH NEW SWAY BAR END LINKS. ONE OF THE NICE THINGS ABOUT BDS SUSPENSION KITS IS YOU DON'T NEED TO INSTALL THE BIGGEST, BADDEST KIT TO GET ACCESS TO ALL OF THE UPGRADES. EVEN THOUGH WE'RE ONLY PUTTING ON A THREE INCH KIT I CAN OPT FOR A SHOCK UPGRADE ON THE FRONT, AND I'M GONNA INSTALL TWO OF THESE FOX TWO POINT ZERO PERFORMANCE SERIES SHOCKS ON EITHER SIDE WITH A BDS SUSPENSION DUAL SHOCK HOOP. NOW BDS AND FOX SHOCKS HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER FOR YEARS AND THEY'VE COME UP WITH SOME VERY SPECIFIC VALVE COMBINATION BASED ON WHAT SUSPENSION
SYSTEM YOU INSTALL. SO EVEN THOUGH I'VE DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF SHOCKS ON EITHER CORNER OF THE FRONT OF OUR TRUCK, I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT AFFECTING OUR RIDE QUALITY.
THE NEW UPPER SHOCK MOUNT INSTALLS AROUND THE FACTORY SHOCK TOWER, AND THE NEW HOOP ATTACHES TO THE FRAME RAIL. THE LOWER MOUNT INDEXES OFF THE UPPER CONTROL ARM MOUNT, AND AFTER DRILLING THE REQUIRED HOLE, GETS BOLTED ONTO THE AXLE. AND LASTLY OUR NEW FOX DUAL SHOCKS ARE INSTALLED.
IN THE REAR THE EBRAKE CABLE IS
DISCONNECTED AND REROUTED. ONCE AGAIN, WORKING ONE SIDE AT A TIME, THE AXLE IS
LOWERED, A NEW CENTER PIN IS INSTALLED INTO THE LEAF
PACK, AND THE BLOCKS ARE PLACED BETWEEN THE LEAF AND THE AXLE. NEW UBOLTS AND HARDWARE FINISH UP THE REAR.

(IAN)>> I'VE FINISHED UP THE SUSPENSION INSTALL BY ADDING THESE BDS TRACTION BARS. NOW THESE ARE GREAT IN THE BACK OF DIESEL TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS BECAUSE THEY'LL HELP ELIMINATE ANY AXLE WRAP WHEN YOU'RE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP WITH A HEAVY LOAD. THEY'LL BASICALLY PREVENT THE TIRE FROM HOPPING UP AND DOWN AND JUST GIVE YOU A GOOD, SMOOTH ACCELERATION. AND WITH THESE INSTALLED WE'RE FINALLY READY FOR SOME WHEELS AND TIRES. BIG RIGS ROLL ON A PRETTY SERIOUS SIZE RIM, USUALLY 19.5 OR 22.5 INCHES TALL. SO WE WANTED SOMETHING PRETTY SIMILAR FOR OUR RAM. WE ALSO WANTED THAT CLASSIC SEMI TRUCK 10 LUG BOLT PATTERN. NOW WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A LARGE WHEEL WITH A 10 LUG
PATTERN, YOU'LL ALWAYS END UP LOOKING AT A SET OF
AMERICAN FORCE WHEELS. THEY SPECIALIZE IN THIS EIGHT TO 10 LUG CONVERSION IN BOTH DUALLY AND SUPER SINGLE SETUP. NOW THIS IS THEIR OCTANE SERIES OF WHEELS.
IT'S 22 INCHES TALL, EIGHT AND A HALF INCHES WIDE, AND IT'S A FULLY FORGED ALUMINUM WHEEL, MAKING IT GOOD STRONG. WE WENT AHEAD AND WRAPPED THEM IN A SET OF NITTO TERAGRAPPLER TIRES, 285/55 R-22, WHICH MAKES THEM JUST OVER 34 INCHES TALL. IT GIVES US A NICE SIDE WALL FOR THE SIZE OF OUR TRUCK, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE RUNNING A 22 INCH TALL WHEEL, AND THE TREAD PATTERN IS PERFECT FOR A TRUCK LIKE OUR RAM THAT'LL SPEND MOST OF ITS TIME ON THE PAVEMENT, JUST OCCASIONALLY VENTURING OFF ONTO SOME DIRT ROADS. NOW WHEN YOU'RE READY TO CONVERT YOUR TRUCK OVER FROM EIGHT LUG TO 10 LUG, YOU'RE GONNA NEED A SET OF ADAPTERS, AND AMERICAN FORCE SUPPLIES THEM WITH THEIR WHEELS. NOW ADAPTERS SOMETIMES GET A BUM WRAP, BUT THE KEY IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE ADAPTER IS WHAT'S CALLED HUB CENTRIC. THAT MEANS THAT THE CENTER OF THE ADAPTER IS MACHINED TO FIT ON THE HUB OF THE AXLE. THAT WAY THE LUG NUTS ARE HOLDING THE ADAPTER ONTO THE AXLE. THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE IS INSIDE THIS MACHINED SURFACE, SO IT'S STILL BEING SUPPORTED BY THE BEARING EVEN THOUGH THE ADAPTER IS BOLTED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. HUB CENTRIC ADAPTERS ARE PERFECTLY FINE. A LOT OF MANUFACTURERS USE THEM STRAIGHT FROM THE FACTORY. SO BY UPGRADING TO THIS 10 LUG PATTERN, WE'RE GONNA HAVE THE LOOKS OF A SEMI TRUCK AND EXTRA STRENGTH TO BOOT. SINCE WE'RE INCREASING THE ROLLING WEIGHT WITH OUR NEW TIRES AND WHEELS, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO UPGRADE OUR
BRAKES AS WELL WITH A NEW SET OF EBC ROTORS AND PADS. THE BLACK OXIDE DIMPLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS WILL HELP PREVENT BRAKE FADE AND THE EXTRA DUTY BRAKE PADS HAVE A BREAK IN COATING TO HELP THEM BED INTO THE ROTOR QUICKER, AS WELL AS A COMPOUND CAPABLE OF HIGH HEAT OPERATION WITHOUT FADING. PERFECT FOR A TRUCK THAT'S GONNA BE DOING SOME WORK. A FACTORY DUALLY ADAPTER IS THEN INSTALLED ONTO OUR THREE QUARTER TON AXLE, FOLLOWED BY THE AMERICAN FORCE 10 LUG CONVERSION, AND FINALLY OUR NEW WHEELS AND TIRES, AND SOME PRETTY SPECIAL LUG
NUT COVERS AS WELL. I KNOW A LOT OF YOU GUYS ARE SCRATCHING YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT. THIS TRUCK WAS NOT A DUALLY WHEN WE BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP. WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO FOR BED SIDES OR FLARES? WELL AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH, I FOUND A COMPANY
CALLED WALLACE DUALLY FENDERS. THEY SPEND THE MAJORITY OF THEIR DAYS BUILDING HIGH QUALITY FACTORY DUALLY FENDER REPLACEMENTS FOR GUYS WHO ARE LOOKING TO REPLACE A FENDER WITH A GOOD QUALITY PIECE AT A LITTLE BIT LOWER PRICE THAN AN OEM PACKAGE. BUT THEY ALSO KNOW THAT THE CREW CAB SHORT BED DUALLY TRUCK IS AN INCREDIBLY POPULAR DESIGN, AND NO MANUFACTURER IS CURRENTLY OFFERING THAT SETUP. SO THEY'VE COME OUT WITH A LINE OF CONVERSION KITS FOR
THOSE TRUCKS, AND THIS IS THEIR DODGE CONVERSION PACKAGE. IT'S A COMPLETE NEW SET OF FLARES FOR THE BACK OF OUR TRUCK.
IT COMES WITH NEW INNER SPLASH SHIELDS, LED LIGHTS, AND ALL OF THE MOUNTING HARDWARE, AND IT'S MODELED AFTER THE OLDER MEGA CAB STYLE FENDER FLARES, WHICH I THINK ARE SOME OF THE BEST LOOKING DUALLY FENDERS OUT THERE. NOW THESE ARE SUCH HIGH QUALITY, WHEN I DROPPED THEM OFF AT THE BODY SHOP, THERE'S VERY LITTLE PREP REQUIRED. THEY SIMPLY SCUFFED THEM AND SHOT THEM TO MATCH OUR DODGE'S PAINT. NOW TO FINISH OUT THIS TRANSFORMATION I GRABBED A SET OF BUSHWACKER EXTENDAFENDERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME STYLE AS THESE REAR FENDERS.
ONCE WE BOLT THESE TWO ITEMS IN OUR TRUCK, THE CONVERSION FROM SINGLE REAR WHEEL TO DUAL WILL BE COMPLETE. THE BUSHWACKER EXTENDAFENDER FLARES MOUNT USING FACTORY HARDWARE AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL TIRE
COVERAGE FOR THE FRONT OF OUR RAM. TO INSTALL THE REAR DUALLY FENDERS WE START BY PROTECTING THE FACTORY BED SIDE WITH A
LAYER OF MASKING TAPE. THEN THE NEW FENDER IS HELD IN PLACE, AND THE TOP MOUNTING HOLE IS MARKED. THE BED SIDE IS THEN DRILLED AND A NUTSERT IS INSTALLED.
THE FENDER IS PLACED BACK ON THE TRUCK AND THE REMAINING
HOLES ARE MARKED, DRILLED, AND NUTSERTED. THE TAPE IS THEN REMOVED AND THE DUALLY FENDER IS BOLTED UP.
THEN WE'LL FINISH IT ALL OFF WITH A SET OF SMOKE LED'S, ALSO INCLUDED IN THE KIT. WE HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED THE STYLE OF THIS TRUCK, FROM A BARE BONES THREE QUARTER TON WORK TRUCK TO
A MONSTER ONE OF A KIND DUALLY RIDING ON 22'S.

COUPONS, FINE TUNING YOUR TORCH POSITION, SETTING UP
YOUR WELDER, AND MAYBE YOU'VE EVEN BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO PICK UP SOME DIFFERENT TYPES OF MIG WELDING WIRE TO EXPERIMENT WITH AT HOME.
NOW TODAY WE'RE GONNA TAKE THE STEP FROM BEGINNER WELDING INTO INTERMEDIATE WELDING, AND THE FIRST THING WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT IS SPECIALIZED WELD FITMENT, OR WELDING JOINTS. NOW THERE'S ONLY REALLY ONE TYPE OF JOINT THAT'S GONNA COME UP IN THE WORLD OF HARDCORE OFF ROADING, AND THAT IS A MULTIPASS WELD JOINT. NOW IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN REALLY PRACTICE BECAUSE THE MATERIAL THAT YOU NEED TO USE IS GOING TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE. BUT BY UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS OF MIG WELDING AND HOW THEY PERTAIN TO THIS TYPE OF SETUP, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK UP YOUR WELDER WHEN YOU NEED TO AND PERFORM A HIGH QUALITY MULTIPASS WELD RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. WHEN BUTT WELDING THICK WALLED AXLE TUBING, LIKE
THIS HALF INCH WALL DOM, A MULTIPASS WELD IS REQUIRED. THE FIRST STEP IS TO CREATE A BEVEL ON EACH PIECE OF TUBING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES UNTIL A HARD EDGE OF ONEEIGHTH OF AN INCH IS ACHIEVED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BEVEL. THEN THE JOINT IS TACKED IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS TO SECURE IT. NOW THE MULTIPASS WELD MEANS EXACTLY AS IT SOUNDS.
WE'RE GONNA LAY MULTIPLE BEADS INSIDE THIS TROUGH THAT WE CREATED ON THE TUBING. THE FIRST WE'RE GOING TO TREAT LIKE A BUTT WELD, MOVING BACK AND FORTH ACROSS EACH PIECE OF TUBING SPENDING EQUAL AMOUNTS OF TIME WITH THE TORCH ON EITHER PIECE. THEN WE'RE GOING TO STACK TWO MORE WELDS ON EITHER SIDE OF THAT FIRST WELD AND WE'RE GOING TO TREAT THOSE LIKE A TJOINT, SPENDING MORE TIME WITH THE TORCH AT
THE TOP EDGE AND PULLING THE BEAD DOWN ON TOP OF THE FIRST WELD THAT WE LAID IN PLACE. AFTER THOSE TWO HAVE COOLED WE'LL FINISH IT ALL OFF WITH ONE LARGER BUTT JOINT ACROSS THE ENTIRE GAP JUST TO LOCK IT ALL TOGETHER. NOW WE'LL REPEAT THIS PROCESS MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE WELD IS BUILT UP ABOVE THE HEIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL TUBE. THEN WE'LL GRIND IT ALL SMOOTH. THAT WAY WE'LL HAVE A GOOD, STRONG JOINT WITH A NICE APPEARANCE.

(IAN)>> NOW WHEN WE COMPLETELY FINISH THIS WELD OUT, YOU CAN MAKE IT COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR ON THE TUBE. I DIDN'T WELD IT ALL THE WAY AROUND SO YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MULTIPASS WELD AND THE BEVEL THAT WE HAD TO FILL TO CREATE THIS. NOW BY WELDING THIS BUTT JOINT THIS WAY IT GIVES US GOOD PENETRATION FOR STRENGTH AND A GOOD APPEARANCE, AND THAT IS THE OTHER TIME WHEN YOU'LL BE RUNNING A MULTIPASS WELD IN THE WORLD OF OFF ROAD VEHICLE BUILDING. LETS SAY YOU HAVE TWO PIECES OF THICK PLATE THAT YOU'RE GOING TO WELD TOGETHER IN A 90 DEGREE. NOW MAYBE YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE WELD WHEN YOU'RE DONE. YOU DON'T WANT TO JUST WELD THE OUTSIDE OF IT AND GRIND
IT SMOOTH BECAUSE THAT COMPROMISES THE STRENGTH.
YOU NEED TO WELD THESE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT MULTIPASS WELD. WITH THE MATERIAL SET UP WITH EQUAL OVERLAP ON EACH SIDE, A BEAD IS RAN ACROSS THE OUTSIDE OF THE JOINT. THEN THE MATERIAL IS FLIPPED, AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE SEAM JOINT WE START OUR MULTIPASS WELD. FIRST DOWN THE VALLEY OF THE CORNER, THEN ONE MORE BEAD
ON EACH SIDE OF THE FIRST WELD. THEN THE OUTSIDE WELD CAN BE GROUND TO A SMOOTH APPEARANCE WITHOUT SACRIFICING ANY STRENGTH.

(IAN)>> WE'RE GONNA FINISH UP TODAY BY JUMPING BACK ON OUR ROCK BOUNCER PROJECT. NOW EVER SINCE WE STARTED BUILDING THIS FRAME, WE'VE HAD A MOCK UP BIG BLOCK INSIDE THE CHASSIS, AND TODAY OUR ACTUAL ENGINE SHOWED UP HERE IN THE SHOP. SO WE WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT'S GOING IN THIS RIG. THIS MONSTER 496 CUBIC INCH BIG BLOCK WAS SPECIFICALLY BUILT FOR MONSTER POWER. IT STARTED WITH A MARK SIX IRON BLOCK BORED 60 OVER. IT WAS STUFFED WITH WISECO PISTONS MOUNTED ON CROWER RODS AND TOPPED OFF WITH EDELBROCKE CNC HEADS.
ON THE DYNO IT CAME IN AT JUST UNDER 700 HORSEPOWER
AND 631 POUND FEET OF TORQUE. NOW OUR ENGINE WAS DYNO'ED WITH A CARBURETOR, AND THOSE ARE GREAT WHEN YOU'RE HUNTING BIG NUMBERS IN A DYNO CELL, RUNNING ON THE STREET, OR EVEN TEARING DOWN A DRAG STRIP. BUT IN THE WORLD OF XTREME OFF ROADING THEY'RE NOT IDEAL. STEEP HILL CLIMBS, OFF CAMBER SITUATIONS CAN CAUSE THE FUEL TO SLOSH AROUND IN THE FLOAT BOWL AND STARVE THE MOTOR. YOU START BY CHOOSING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND THIS IS A LARGE SINGLE PLANE FOR A STANDARD DECK HEIGHT BIG BLOCK WITH RECTANGULAR PORT HEADS. IT HAS TWO FUEL RAILS ALREADY INSTALLED ON EITHER SIDE. THEN YOU CHOOSE YOUR FUEL INJECTORS BASED ON THE
HORSEPOWER RATING OF YOUR ENGINE, AND IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO LEAVE THEM IN THE PLASTIC LIKE THIS UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO INSTALL THEM FOR GOOD. IT'LL JUST KEEP DIRT OUT OF THEM, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE WORKING IN A FAB SHOP LIKE WE ARE. NOW THE THROTTLE BODY HAS TWO OPTIONS AS WELL. THERE'S A 1,000 AND A 2,000 CFM. NOW WE CHOSE THE 2,000 CUBIC FEET PER MINUTE VERSION BECAUSE WE ARE JUST UNDER 1,000 HORSEPOWER WITH OUR COMBINATION. WHAT MAKES THIS WHOLE SYSTEM EASY TO INSTALL AND RUN IS THIS ITEM RIGHT HERE. WELL JUST LIKE WHEN WE CHECK FOR CLEARANCE FOR THINGS LIKE SEATS, AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, AND STEERING, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ROOM FOR A LARGE AIR CLEANER BECAUSE WE NEED TO GET A LOT OF AIR INTO THIS MOTOR BECAUSE OF THE POWER THAT IT'S MAKING. SO WE NEED TO MOCK THIS INTO PLACE AND MAKE SURE WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM. TO KEEP DIRT AND DUST OUT OF OUR NEW INTAKE WE'LL COMPLETELY SEAL IT USING SOME TWO INCH GREEN MASKING TAPE. WE'LL DROP IT ON THE MOTOR AND INSTALL OUR NEW THROTTLE BODY ON TOP OF THE INTAKE. HIGH HORSEPOWER ENGINES REQUIRE A LOT OF AIR INTO THE MOTOR FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE. NOW FITTING A LARGE AIR CLEANER ON A ROCK BOUNCER CHASSIS LIKE THIS CAN BE DIFFICULT. I FOUND THIS LARGE OVAL ELEMENT AT SUMMIT RACING FROM RTWOC PERFORMANCE. NOW IT'S SHORT, WHICH IS GOOD FOR OUR CHASSIS DESIGN. AND YOU THINK THAT MIGHT LIMIT THE FLOW BUT BECAUSE OF THE LARGE OVAL SHAPE IT HAS ENOUGH SURFACE AREA TO FLOW ENOUGH AIR TO EASILY FEED OUR BIG BLOCK. BUT RTWOC PERFORMANCE DOES ONE OTHER THING THAT'S PRETTY COOL. REMEMBER THIS IS A LAMBORGHINI THEMED ROCK BOUNCER, AND LAMBORGHINIS HAVE SEE THROUGH ENGINE COVERS, AND RTWOC PERFORMANCE HAS THESE POLYCARBONATE FILTER BASES THAT GO WITH THEIR AIR CLEANER. SO I'LL BE ABLE TO PUT THIS ON TOP OF OUR BIG BLOCK, CUT THE HOLE FOR OUR THROTTLE BODY, AND WE WILL LITERALLY HAVE A SEE THROUGH ENGINE COVER ON THE TOP OF OUR ENGINE. THE POLYCARBONATE BASE COMES WITH A TEMPLATE DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF CARBURETOR OR THROTTLE BODY YOU'RE USING. ONCE THE CORRECT SIZE IS MARKED, IT'S CUT WITH AN AIR SAW AND BOLTED ONTO THE TOP OF OUR BIG BLOCK.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF OUR 2013 RAM 2500 TRADESMAN PICK UP. NOW WE'RE TURNING THIS INTO A BIG RIG INSPIRED SHOP TRUCK TO USE AROUND HERE IN THE XOR SHOP. NOW THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS TODAY IS TO DITCH A WHOLE BUNCH OF STOCK PARTS.

(IAN)>> THE FIRST JOB WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF ON OUR PICK UP IS TO UPGRADE THE SUSPENSION. WE WANT TO GET IT SITTING UP JUST A LITTLE BIT HIGHER. NOW BDS SUSPENSION HAS FULLY EMBRACED THE RAM HEAVY DUTY SERIES TRUCK, AND THEY HAVE KITS FROM THREE INCH ALL THE WAY UP TO MONSTER LONG ARM EIGHT INCH KITS IF YOU'RE TRYING TO BUILD A MONSTER TRUCK. WE'RE BUILDING A WORK TRUCK, SO WE OPTED FOR THE THREE INCH KIT. PART OF THE KIT IS THE CONICAL PROGRESSIVE RATE DIESEL SPECIFIC COIL SPRING. YOU CAN SEE THAT IT'S FATTER AT THE BOTTOM THAT IT IS AT THE TOP, AND THAT'S WHAT STILL GIVES US A NICE SMOOTH RIDE. THE PROGRESSIVE RATE, OR STIFFER WINDINGS AT THE TOP OF THE SPRING, STILL GIVE THE TRUCK THE ABILITY TO ABSORB HARSH POT HOLES WHEN YOU'RE OUT ON THE ROAD. THAT ONE BIG HIT THAT OVERRIDES THE SOFT POINT OF THE SPRING WILL BE ABSORBED BY THE STIFF PART. THAT GIVES US THE ABILITY TO HAVE A LIFTED TRUCK AND STILL HAVE A FACTORY TYPE RIDE. NOW THE CONTROL ARMS ARE REPLACED WITH NEW PIECES THAT ARE NOT ONLY GREASABLE, THEY'RE ALSO FULLY REBUILDABLE WITH KITS AVAILABLE FROM BDS SUSPENSION. SO IF WE PUT A PILE OF MILES ON OUR TRUCK, WE CAN REBUILD THE ARMS WITHOUT HAVING TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THEM.
TO KEEP OUR ALIGNMENT ANGLES IN CHECK A NEW HEAVY DUTY FULLY ADJUSTABLE TRACK BAR WILL GO UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF OUR TRUCK, AND THE LIFT OUT BACK IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH SOME LIFT BLOCKS AND NEW UBOLTS.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO NOW IS PUT ALL THESE PARTS ON OUR TRUCK. WORKING ON ONE SIDE OF THE TRUCK AT A TIME, THE NEW CONTROL ARMS ARE INSTALLED UTILIZING ALL OF THE FACTORY HARDWARE. WE MAKE SURE TO LEAVE ALL THESE MOUNTING BOLTS LOOSE FOR NOW. WITH THE STOCK SHOCKS REMOVED THE NEW SPRINGS ARE INSTALLED, BAM!
WE'LL ADJUST THE LENGTH OF THE NEW TRACK BAR TO THE SUGGESTED LENGTH FOR THE AMOUNT OF LIFT THAT WE'RE
INSTALLING, AND THE TRACK BAR IS INSTALLED ALONG WITH NEW SWAY BAR END LINKS. ONE OF THE NICE THINGS ABOUT BDS SUSPENSION KITS IS YOU DON'T NEED TO INSTALL THE BIGGEST, BADDEST KIT TO GET ACCESS TO ALL OF THE UPGRADES. EVEN THOUGH WE'RE ONLY PUTTING ON A THREE INCH KIT I CAN OPT FOR A SHOCK UPGRADE ON THE FRONT, AND I'M GONNA INSTALL TWO OF THESE FOX TWO POINT ZERO PERFORMANCE SERIES SHOCKS ON EITHER SIDE WITH A BDS SUSPENSION DUAL SHOCK HOOP. NOW BDS AND FOX SHOCKS HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER FOR YEARS AND THEY'VE COME UP WITH SOME VERY SPECIFIC VALVE COMBINATION BASED ON WHAT SUSPENSION
SYSTEM YOU INSTALL. SO EVEN THOUGH I'VE DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF SHOCKS ON EITHER CORNER OF THE FRONT OF OUR TRUCK, I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT AFFECTING OUR RIDE QUALITY.
THE NEW UPPER SHOCK MOUNT INSTALLS AROUND THE FACTORY SHOCK TOWER, AND THE NEW HOOP ATTACHES TO THE FRAME RAIL. THE LOWER MOUNT INDEXES OFF THE UPPER CONTROL ARM MOUNT, AND AFTER DRILLING THE REQUIRED HOLE, GETS BOLTED ONTO THE AXLE. AND LASTLY OUR NEW FOX DUAL SHOCKS ARE INSTALLED.
IN THE REAR THE EBRAKE CABLE IS
DISCONNECTED AND REROUTED. ONCE AGAIN, WORKING ONE SIDE AT A TIME, THE AXLE IS
LOWERED, A NEW CENTER PIN IS INSTALLED INTO THE LEAF
PACK, AND THE BLOCKS ARE PLACED BETWEEN THE LEAF AND THE AXLE. NEW UBOLTS AND HARDWARE FINISH UP THE REAR.

THEY'LL BASICALLY PREVENT THE TIRE FROM HOPPING UP AND DOWN AND JUST GIVE YOU A GOOD, SMOOTH ACCELERATION. AND WITH THESE INSTALLED WE'RE FINALLY READY FOR SOME WHEELS AND TIRES. BIG RIGS ROLL ON A PRETTY SERIOUS SIZE RIM, USUALLY 19.5 OR 22.5 INCHES TALL. SO WE WANTED SOMETHING PRETTY SIMILAR FOR OUR RAM. WE ALSO WANTED THAT CLASSIC SEMI TRUCK 10 LUG BOLT PATTERN. NOW WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A LARGE WHEEL WITH A 10 LUG
PATTERN, YOU'LL ALWAYS END UP LOOKING AT A SET OF
AMERICAN FORCE WHEELS. THEY SPECIALIZE IN THIS EIGHT TO 10 LUG CONVERSION IN BOTH DUALLY AND SUPER SINGLE SETUP. NOW THIS IS THEIR OCTANE SERIES OF WHEELS.

IT GIVES US A NICE SIDE WALL FOR THE SIZE OF OUR TRUCK, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE RUNNING A 22 INCH TALL WHEEL, AND THE TREAD PATTERN IS PERFECT FOR A TRUCK LIKE OUR RAM THAT'LL SPEND MOST OF ITS TIME ON THE PAVEMENT, JUST OCCASIONALLY VENTURING OFF ONTO SOME DIRT ROADS. NOW WHEN YOU'RE READY TO CONVERT YOUR TRUCK OVER FROM EIGHT LUG TO 10 LUG, YOU'RE GONNA NEED A SET OF ADAPTERS, AND AMERICAN FORCE SUPPLIES THEM WITH THEIR WHEELS. NOW ADAPTERS SOMETIMES GET A BUM WRAP, BUT THE KEY IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE ADAPTER IS WHAT'S CALLED HUB CENTRIC. THAT MEANS THAT THE CENTER OF THE ADAPTER IS MACHINED TO FIT ON THE HUB OF THE AXLE. THAT WAY THE LUG NUTS ARE HOLDING THE ADAPTER ONTO THE AXLE. THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE IS INSIDE THIS MACHINED SURFACE, SO IT'S STILL BEING SUPPORTED BY THE BEARING EVEN THOUGH THE ADAPTER IS BOLTED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. HUB CENTRIC ADAPTERS ARE PERFECTLY FINE. A LOT OF MANUFACTURERS USE THEM STRAIGHT FROM THE FACTORY. SO BY UPGRADING TO THIS 10 LUG PATTERN, WE'RE GONNA HAVE THE LOOKS OF A SEMI TRUCK AND EXTRA STRENGTH TO BOOT. SINCE WE'RE INCREASING THE ROLLING WEIGHT WITH OUR NEW TIRES AND WHEELS, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO UPGRADE OUR
BRAKES AS WELL WITH A NEW SET OF EBC ROTORS AND PADS. THE BLACK OXIDE DIMPLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS WILL HELP PREVENT BRAKE FADE AND THE EXTRA DUTY BRAKE PADS HAVE A BREAK IN COATING TO HELP THEM BED INTO THE ROTOR QUICKER, AS WELL AS A COMPOUND CAPABLE OF HIGH HEAT OPERATION WITHOUT FADING. THEY SPEND THE MAJORITY OF THEIR DAYS BUILDING HIGH QUALITY FACTORY DUALLY FENDER REPLACEMENTS FOR GUYS WHO ARE LOOKING TO REPLACE A FENDER WITH A GOOD QUALITY PIECE AT A LITTLE BIT LOWER PRICE THAN AN OEM PACKAGE. BUT THEY ALSO KNOW THAT THE CREW CAB SHORT BED DUALLY TRUCK IS AN INCREDIBLY POPULAR DESIGN, AND NO MANUFACTURER IS CURRENTLY OFFERING THAT SETUP. NOW TO FINISH OUT THIS TRANSFORMATION I GRABBED A SET OF BUSHWACKER EXTENDAFENDERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME STYLE AS THESE REAR FENDERS.
ONCE WE BOLT THESE TWO ITEMS IN OUR TRUCK, THE CONVERSION FROM SINGLE REAR WHEEL TO DUAL WILL BE COMPLETE. THE BUSHWACKER EXTENDAFENDER FLARES MOUNT USING FACTORY HARDWARE AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL TIRE
COVERAGE FOR THE FRONT OF OUR RAM. TO INSTALL THE REAR DUALLY FENDERS WE START BY PROTECTING THE FACTORY BED SIDE WITH A
LAYER OF MASKING TAPE. THEN THE NEW FENDER IS HELD IN PLACE, AND THE TOP MOUNTING HOLE IS MARKED. THE BED SIDE IS THEN DRILLED AND A NUTSERT IS INSTALLED.
THE FENDER IS PLACED BACK ON THE TRUCK AND THE REMAINING
HOLES ARE MARKED, DRILLED, AND NUTSERTED. THE TAPE IS THEN REMOVED AND THE DUALLY FENDER IS BOLTED UP.
THEN WE'LL FINISH IT ALL OFF WITH A SET OF SMOKE LED'S, ALSO INCLUDED IN THE KIT. WE HAVE COMPLETELY CHANGED THE STYLE OF THIS TRUCK, FROM A BARE BONES THREE QUARTER TON WORK TRUCK TO
A MONSTER ONE OF A KIND DUALLY RIDING ON 22'S.

THEN THE JOINT IS TACKED IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS TO SECURE IT. NOW THE MULTIPASS WELD MEANS EXACTLY AS IT SOUNDS.
WE'RE GONNA LAY MULTIPLE BEADS INSIDE THIS TROUGH THAT WE CREATED ON THE TUBING. THE FIRST WE'RE GOING TO TREAT LIKE A BUTT WELD, MOVING BACK AND FORTH ACROSS EACH PIECE OF TUBING SPENDING EQUAL AMOUNTS OF TIME WITH THE TORCH ON EITHER PIECE. THEN WE'RE GOING TO STACK TWO MORE WELDS ON EITHER SIDE OF THAT FIRST WELD AND WE'RE GOING TO TREAT THOSE LIKE A TJOINT, SPENDING MORE TIME WITH THE TORCH AT
THE TOP EDGE AND PULLING THE BEAD DOWN ON TOP OF THE FIRST WELD THAT WE LAID IN PLACE. AFTER THOSE TWO HAVE COOLED WE'LL FINISH IT ALL OFF WITH ONE LARGER BUTT JOINT ACROSS THE ENTIRE GAP JUST TO LOCK IT ALL TOGETHER. NOW WE'LL REPEAT THIS PROCESS MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE WELD IS BUILT UP ABOVE THE HEIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL TUBE. THEN WE'LL GRIND IT ALL SMOOTH. THAT WAY WE'LL HAVE A GOOD, STRONG JOINT WITH A NICE APPEARANCE.

(IAN)>> NOW WHEN WE COMPLETELY FINISH THIS WELD OUT, YOU CAN MAKE IT COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR ON THE TUBE. I DIDN'T WELD IT ALL THE WAY AROUND SO YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MULTIPASS WELD AND THE BEVEL THAT WE HAD TO FILL TO CREATE THIS. NOW BY WELDING THIS BUTT JOINT THIS WAY IT GIVES US GOOD PENETRATION FOR STRENGTH AND A GOOD APPEARANCE, AND THAT IS THE OTHER TIME WHEN YOU'LL BE RUNNING A MULTIPASS WELD IN THE WORLD OF OFF ROAD VEHICLE BUILDING. LETS SAY YOU HAVE TWO PIECES OF THICK PLATE THAT YOU'RE GOING TO WELD TOGETHER IN A 90 DEGREE. NOW MAYBE YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE WELD WHEN YOU'RE DONE. YOU NEED TO WELD THESE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT MULTIPASS WELD. WITH THE MATERIAL SET UP WITH EQUAL OVERLAP ON EACH SIDE, A BEAD IS RAN ACROSS THE OUTSIDE OF THE JOINT. THEN THE MATERIAL IS FLIPPED, AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE SEAM JOINT WE START OUR MULTIPASS WELD. FIRST DOWN THE VALLEY OF THE CORNER, THEN ONE MORE BEAD
ON EACH SIDE OF THE FIRST WELD. THEN THE OUTSIDE WELD CAN BE GROUND TO A SMOOTH APPEARANCE WITHOUT SACRIFICING ANY STRENGTH.

NOW EVER SINCE WE STARTED BUILDING THIS FRAME, WE'VE HAD A MOCK UP BIG BLOCK INSIDE THE CHASSIS, AND TODAY OUR ACTUAL ENGINE SHOWED UP HERE IN THE SHOP. SO WE WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT'S GOING IN THIS RIG. THIS MONSTER 496 CUBIC INCH BIG BLOCK WAS SPECIFICALLY BUILT FOR MONSTER POWER. IT STARTED WITH A MARK SIX IRON BLOCK BORED 60 OVER. IT WAS STUFFED WITH WISECO PISTONS MOUNTED ON CROWER RODS AND TOPPED OFF WITH EDELBROCKE CNC HEADS.
ON THE DYNO IT CAME IN AT JUST UNDER 700 HORSEPOWER
AND 631 POUND FEET OF TORQUE. NOW OUR ENGINE WAS DYNO'ED WITH A CARBURETOR, AND THOSE ARE GREAT WHEN YOU'RE HUNTING BIG NUMBERS IN A DYNO CELL, RUNNING ON THE STREET, OR EVEN TEARING DOWN A DRAG STRIP. BUT IN THE WORLD OF XTREME OFF ROADING THEY'RE NOT IDEAL. STEEP HILL CLIMBS, OFF CAMBER SITUATIONS CAN CAUSE THE FUEL TO SLOSH AROUND IN THE FLOAT BOWL AND STARVE THE MOTOR. ON A RIG LIKE OUR ROCK BOUNCER YOU HAVE TO HAVE ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION. NOW HOLLEY HAS A WHOLE SERIES OF KITS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR HIGH HORSEPOWER ENGINES LIKE OUR BIG BLOCK. THAT'S PART OF THEIR HP EFI LINE, AND YOU GET TO MIX AND MATCH COMPONENTS BASED ON YOUR SETUP. YOU START BY CHOOSING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND THIS IS A LARGE SINGLE PLANE FOR A STANDARD DECK HEIGHT BIG BLOCK WITH RECTANGULAR PORT HEADS. IT HAS TWO FUEL RAILS ALREADY INSTALLED ON EITHER SIDE. THEN YOU CHOOSE YOUR FUEL INJECTORS BASED ON THE
HORSEPOWER RATING OF YOUR ENGINE, AND IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO LEAVE THEM IN THE PLASTIC LIKE THIS UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO INSTALL THEM FOR GOOD. IT'LL JUST KEEP DIRT OUT OF THEM, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE WORKING IN A FAB SHOP LIKE WE ARE. NOW THE THROTTLE BODY HAS TWO OPTIONS AS WELL. THERE'S A 1,000 AND A 2,000 CFM. NOW WE CHOSE THE 2,000 CUBIC FEET PER MINUTE VERSION BECAUSE WE ARE JUST UNDER 1,000 HORSEPOWER WITH OUR COMBINATION. WHAT MAKES THIS WHOLE SYSTEM EASY TO INSTALL AND RUN IS THIS ITEM RIGHT HERE. THIS IS A WIDE BAND OTWO SENSOR. THIS WILL MEASURE THE EXACT AMOUNT OF OXYGEN IN THE EXHAUST AND ALLOW THE ENGINE'S ECU TO ADJUST THE ENGINE TO RUN OPTIMALLY NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER'S
LIKE OR WHAT TYPE OF FUEL WE PUT IN THE FUEL CELL. NOW BECAUSE IT'S FUEL INJECTION, OBVIOUSLY IT'LL HAVE A COMPLETE WIRING HARNESS AND A
COMPUTER TO RUN THE MOTOR. NOW I'M SURE SOME OF YOU ARE WONDERING, WHY WOULD WE GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE RIGHT NOW OF INSTALLING THIS FUEL INJECTION KIT, SHOWING YOU THE MOTOR, WHEN THE CHASSIS' NOT EVEN POWDER COATED YET? WELL JUST LIKE WHEN WE CHECK FOR CLEARANCE FOR THINGS LIKE SEATS, AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, AND STEERING, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ROOM FOR A LARGE AIR CLEANER BECAUSE WE NEED TO GET A LOT OF AIR INTO THIS MOTOR BECAUSE OF THE POWER THAT IT'S MAKING. SO WE NEED TO MOCK THIS INTO PLACE AND MAKE SURE WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM. TO KEEP DIRT AND DUST OUT OF OUR NEW INTAKE WE'LL COMPLETELY SEAL IT USING SOME TWO INCH GREEN MASKING TAPE. WE'LL DROP IT ON THE MOTOR AND INSTALL OUR NEW THROTTLE BODY ON TOP OF THE INTAKE. HIGH HORSEPOWER ENGINES REQUIRE A LOT OF AIR INTO THE MOTOR FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE. NOW FITTING A LARGE AIR CLEANER ON A ROCK BOUNCER CHASSIS LIKE THIS CAN BE DIFFICULT. I FOUND THIS LARGE OVAL ELEMENT AT SUMMIT RACING FROM RTWOC PERFORMANCE. NOW IT'S SHORT, WHICH IS GOOD FOR OUR CHASSIS DESIGN. AND YOU THINK THAT MIGHT LIMIT THE FLOW BUT BECAUSE OF THE LARGE OVAL SHAPE IT HAS ENOUGH SURFACE AREA TO FLOW ENOUGH AIR TO EASILY FEED OUR BIG BLOCK. BUT RTWOC PERFORMANCE DOES ONE OTHER THING THAT'S PRETTY COOL. REMEMBER THIS IS A LAMBORGHINI THEMED ROCK BOUNCER, AND LAMBORGHINIS HAVE SEE THROUGH ENGINE COVERS, AND RTWOC PERFORMANCE HAS THESE POLYCARBONATE FILTER BASES THAT GO WITH THEIR AIR CLEANER. SO I'LL BE ABLE TO PUT THIS ON TOP OF OUR BIG BLOCK, CUT THE HOLE FOR OUR THROTTLE BODY, AND WE WILL LITERALLY HAVE A SEE THROUGH ENGINE COVER ON THE TOP OF OUR ENGINE. THE POLYCARBONATE BASE COMES WITH A TEMPLATE DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF CARBURETOR OR THROTTLE BODY YOU'RE USING. ONCE THE CORRECT SIZE IS MARKED, IT'S CUT WITH AN AIR SAW AND BOLTED ONTO THE TOP OF OUR BIG BLOCK.
