(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY ON DETROIT MUSCLE WE'VE GOT A BIG BASKET FULL OF HOW TO TECH FOR YOU STARTING WITH A BRAND NEW PROJECT CAR. IT'S AN ICONIC MUSCLE ERA MACHINE AND A REAL DEAL BARN FIND. PLUS WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO USE PEELABLE COATING TO GIVE YOUR CAR A TEMPORARY NEW LOOK, AND THERE'S NO NEED TO HEAD TO THE FURNITURE STORE.

THIS SMALL BLOCK WILL MAKE A GREAT TABLE.

(TOMMY)>> HEY GUYS, NOW OBVIOUSLY WE'RE NOT IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW. WE'RE OUT ON A TREASURE HUNT, AND WE'VE ALL HEARD THOSE COOL STORIES ABOUT ALL THOSE AWESOME CARS

HANGING OUT IN THE BUILDINGS A LOT LIKE THIS ONE.

(MARC)>> THAT'S RIGHT, THIS IS AN OLD HAY BARN. NOW I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD THE TERM "BARN FIND" TOSSED AROUND SO MUCH LATELY THAT IT'S LOST ITS MEANING. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS WE FOUND A REAL ONE.

(TOMMY)>> WHAT THIS IS IS A 1972 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE MALIBU. THEY'RE ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR AND MOST SOUGHT AFTER MUSCLE CARS THAT EVER ROLLED OUT OF DETROIT, AND THIS IS OUR NEXT BUILD.

(MARC)>> BUT THIS IS ISN'T ANYTHING SPECIAL OR RARE. IT'S NOT A BIG BLOCK OR AN SS. IN FACT IT'S A SMALL BLOCK WITH A BENCH SEAT AND A COLUMN SHIFT. SO IT'S A BLANK SLATE, WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE LIKE. WE CAN GO NEW SCHOOL WITH LS OR LT POWER, OR WE COULD OLD SCHOOL WITH A BIG BLOCK AND A FOUR SPEED, BUT IT'S STILL A LITTLE EARLY TO TELL WHICH WAY WE'RE GONNA GO. THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO IS GET THIS THING OUT OF HERE AND BACK TO THE SHOP.

(TOMMY)>> NOW WE GOT OUR CHEVELLE OFF THE TRAILER AND WE'RE JUST ABOUT READY TO TAKE IT ALL APART, BUT

BEFORE WE DO THAT WE WANT TO GIVE IT A QUICK BATH FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS. ONE, WE WANT TO WASH OFF WHAT'S LEFT OF THAT BIRD, AND TWO, THIS THING'S PROBABLY GOT A COUPLE OF CRITTERS LIVING IN IT BECAUSE IT'S BEEN SITTING IN THAT OLD BARN FOR AS LONG AS IT HAS. NOW WE'RE NOT GONNA KILL THEM BUT WE ARE GONNA FORCE THEM OUT.

(MARC)>> WE AREN'T PLANNING ON USING THIS HOOD, SO WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GET IT OUT OF THE WAY RIGHT NOW. BUT BEFORE WE FIRE UP THAT PRESSURE WASHER THOUGH WE NEED TO GET SOME DEGREASING DONE HERE IN THE ENGINE BAY.

WHAT WE'RE GONNA USE IS THIS GUNK ALL PURPOSE

CLEANER AND DEGREASER.

(TOMMY)>> THIS GUNK DEGREASER IS DESIGNED TO BUST UP REALLY TOUGH GREASE AND OIL, LIKE THIS OLD NASTY STUFF STUCK IN THIS ENGINE BAY. THE GOOD NEWS THAT IT WON'T DAMAGE PLASTIC SURFACES OR ETCH YOUR ALUMINUM. SO YOU CAN USE IT TO DO THE SAME JOB IF THE ENGINE IS STILL IN THE CAR. FOR THIS JOB WE'RE USING IT STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOTTLE, BUT FOR LESS EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES IT CAN BE DILUTED UP TO 35 TO ONE.

(MARC)>> WITH OUR GREASY ENGINE BAY SCRUBBED DOWN,

WE CAN GO AHEAD AND BUST OUT OUR POWER WASHER TO MAKE QUICK WORK OF THIS CLEAN UP. OUR GUNK SPRAY DOWN MADE THIS STUFF A LOT EASIER TO DEAL WITH. HECK, SOME OF THIS METAL HASN'T SEEN DAY LIGHT IN 30 PLUS YEARS.

(TOMMY)>> WITH THAT DONE WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE BODY. BOY DOES SHE NEED A BATH REAL BAD!

NASTY OLD BIRD! WELL LOOKS LIKE THOSE WINDOW SEALS ARE SHOT.

THIS OLE GIRL IS SURE LOOKING A LOT BETTER ALREADY. JUST LOOK AT THAT ENGINE BAY, JUST LOOK AT IT!

WELL WE LET OUR CHEVELLE DRIP DRY AND I HAVE TO SAY IT SURE DOES LOOK A WHOLE LOT BETTER AND DEFINITELY SMELLS A LOT BETTER.

(MARC)>> NOT ON THE INSIDE IT DOESN'T. AS A MATTER FACT, SINCE WE'RE IN HERE NOW, WE'RE GONNA DO THE EASIEST AND THE LEAST EXPENSIVE PART OF BUILDING AN OLD CAR, THAT'S THE TEARDOWN.

(ANNOUNCER)>> COMING UP WE'LL DO SOME AUTOMOTIVE ARCHEOLOGY ON OUR CHEVELLE.

(TOMMY)>> JACKPOT!

(MARC)>> HEY GUYS WELCOME BACK. NOW THAT WE'VE GOT OUR CHEVELLE ALL CLEANED UP AND HERE IN THE SHOP WE CAN START EVALUATING ITS OVERALL CONDITION, GET AN IDEA OF WHAT ALL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND GET A GAME PLAN FOR ATTACK.

(TOMMY)>> AFTER REMOVING THE DIRT, SOME OF THE OLD BODY WORK IS STARTING TO PUSH THROUGH, AND YOU CAN SEE IT RIGHT UP HERE.

NOW THE OLD CAR DEFINITELY HAS RUST IN THE BOTTOM OF THE QUARTERS ON BOTH SIDES. SO WE'RE GONNA NEED THOSE, AND HOPEFULLY WE'RE NOT GONNA NEED A ROOF.

(MARC)>> BUT WE'RE NOT JUST GONNA FIX THOSE MAJOR ISSUES, SLAP A PAINT JOB ON THIS THING, DROP IN AN ENGINE AND SEND IT DOWN THE ROAD. NO, WE'RE GONNA DO A COMPLETE BUILD, AND THE BEST WAY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT OUR CANVAS LOOKS LIKE AND TO PROVIDE US WITH A REALLY GOOD FOUNDATION IS TO STRIP OFF ALL THIS OLD PAINT. SO THE NEXT THING WE NEED TO DO IS GET THIS THING TORN DOWN, GUT THAT INTERIOR, SEND IT OFF TO THE BLASTER.

(TOMMY)>> WELL ONE THING'S FOR SURE, WE GOT US A GOOD LOW RUST CAR AS WE STARTED TO REALLY FIND OUT WHILE WE TAKE IT APART. THE TELL TALE SIGN IS THAT ALL THE BOLTS COME OFF MUCH MORE EASILY THAN MOST CARS OF THIS AGE. THERE'S A LOT TO BE SAID FOR KEEPING IT OUT OF THE WEATHER FOR A COUPLE OF DECADES, EVEN IF IT'S IN A HAY BARN. WELL WE MADE PRETTY GOOD HEADWAY TEARING THE OLD

CHEVELLE DOWN BUT WE'VE HIT KIND OF A SMALL SNAG. WE CAN'T GET INTO THE TRUNK, WHICH ISN'T THAT BIG OF A DEAL, BUT WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF WAYS WE WANT TO SHOW YOU TO TRY TO GET IN THERE. NOW WHEN WE PULLED THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION BOTH OF THEM WERE SQUARE. BACK IN THE DAY GM KINDA HAD A SQUARE KEY THAT INDICATED FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH AND KIND OF A ROUND SHAPED ONE THAT WAS FOR THE LOCKS. WE DON'T KNOW IF THIS KEY WAS CUT ON THE WRONG BLANK OR IF IT EVEN FITS OUR LOCK, BUT THIS IS HOW

YOU CAN GET IN THERE. THE FIRST THING TO TRY IS TAKE A PICK AND FOLD OPEN THE LITTLE DOOR, AND NOW USE SOME LUBRICANT AND DROWN THAT THING. YOU CAN TAKE THE KEY AND SLIDE IT IN THERE, JIGGLE IT AROUND, SLIDE IT BACK AND FORTH CAUSE YOU'RE TRYING TO LOOSEN UP THE TUMBLERS. LET'S TRY THAT OTHER KEY.

IT DON'T EVEN LIKE TO FIT IN THERE AT ALL. ALSO YOU CAN TRY THE OLD TRICK. PUSH THE KEY IN THERE, PULL IT OUT JUST A LITTLE BIT, THEN TRY IT. NOPE, THAT DON'T DO IT. YOU OLD GUYS, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. ALRIGHT GUYS, THE NEXT THING WE'RE GONNA TRY MEANS SOMETHING'S GONNA HAVE TO DIE. WE'VE GOT TWO OPTIONS. ONE, WE CAN EITHER CUT THE LOCK OUT OF THE TRUNK LID OR WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO SACRIFICE THE LOCK CYLINDER. NOW WITH OUR TRUNK LID IT'S ACTUALLY IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. SO THE LESSER OF THE TWO EVILS IS GONNA BE CHEWING ON THAT LOCK CYLINDER.

(MARC)>> START WITH A SMALLER BIT TO MAKE SORT OF A PILOT HOLE THROUGH THE CYLINDER. THEN JUMP TO A HALF INCH AND WIGGLE IT AROUND TO REMOVE THE METAL THAT MAKES UP THE LOCKING MECHANISM. YOU DON'T NEED TO USE MUCH PRESSURE.

(TOMMY)>> OH YEAH, JACKPOT, SOME JUMPER CABLES AND AN ANTIQUE QUILT. THAT'D MAKE MARC A PRETTY NICE CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

(MARC)>> ALRIGHT NOW WE'VE GOT MOST OF THE BODY TAKEN APART AND THE GLASS OUT OF THE CAR. NOW IT'S TIME TO MOVE INTO THAT INTERIOR AND GET IT GUTTED.

(TOMMY)>> JUMPER CABLES, THAT'S SOME GOOD ONES THERE.

THE ONE EVERYBODY WANTS.

(MARC)>> OH JUST CLEANING OUT THIS INTERIOR BEFORE WE STRIP IT OUT AND WE FOUND SOME COOL STUFF IN

THE GLOVE BOX LIKE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL, PRETTY COOL. EVEN GOT A WARRANTY INFORMATION, NEAT, AND THIS IS THE COOLEST ONE. IT'S THE ORIGINAL BILL OF SALE. IT'S GOT SOME PRETTY COOL INFO ON IT. THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S NAME, WHEN THEY BOUGHT IT, JUNE 14TH, '72. THIS THING ACTUALLY HAD WHITE WALLS, POWER STEERING, AND A/C. COOLEST PART ABOUT THIS THOUGH, IT SHOWS HERE THE OWNER TRADED IN A N1966 CHEVY TWO. THEY EVEN GOT $1,400 DOLLARS FOR A TRADE IN. SO THAT'S PRETTY COOL. I THINK WE'LL HOLD ONTO THAT. WELL WE NEED TO GET THE REST OF THIS INTERIOR STRIPPED OUT, GET THE BODY SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, SEND THEM OFF TO THE BLASTER.

(ANNOUNCER)>> STICK AROUND AND WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO RADICALLY CHANGE YOUR RIDE ON A TEMPORARY BASIS.

(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WE'RE MOVING ON FROM OUR

CHEVELLE FOR NOW BUT WE'RE JUMPING ON THIS OTHER CAR THAT WE'RE GONNA BE DOING A LITTLE BIT OF WORK ON. ONE OF OUR BUDDIES HERE IN TOWN HAS THIS FOURTH GEN TRANS AM AND HE'S ASKED US FOR SOME HELP.

(TOMMY)>> YOU SEE HE WANTS TO CHANGE THE PERSONALITY

OF HIS CAR BUT NOT ON A PERMANENT BASIS. HE WANTS THE ABILITY TO COME BACK TO THIS FACTORY COLOR. THIS IS A WS SIX TRANS AM, WHICH IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY SOUGHT AFTER LATE MODEL MUSCLE CAR. SANDING THE PAINT OFF AND CHANGING THE COLOR COULD ACTUALLY HURT THE GUY'S VALUE LATER DOWN THE ROAD.

(MARC)>> ONE GREAT SOLUTION FOR THIS SORT OF SITUATION IS TO USE A GOOD HIGH QUALITY, NONPERMANENT COATING LIKE THIS PEEL COAT FROM RUSTOLEUM. NOW THIS STUFF HAS A LOT OF ADVANTAGES THAT COME IN HANDY WHEN DOING A JOB LIKE THIS. FOR ONE THING THERE'S NO BODY WORK. THIS COATING IS A HIGH BUILD TYPE, MEANING THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE IT TO MASK MINOR IMPERFECTION ON THE SURFACE OF THE CAR. SECOND, SINCE IT'S NOT PERMANENT, IF YOU MAKE A

MISTAKE THEN YOU CAN JUST PEEL IT OFF AND TRY AGAIN. THIRD IT CAN ACT AS AN ADDED PROTECTION AGAINST THINGS LIKE ROCK CHIPS, SALT, AND U/V DAMAGE. NOW YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN THESE CANS IN STORES AND THEY'RE GONNA BE GREAT IF YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING LIKE A SET OF WHEELS, TRIM, EMBLEMS, OR EVEN AN

ACCENT LIKE A STRIPE, BUT HERE'S THE DEAL. IF YOU'RE DOING AN ENTIRE CAR LIKE WE ARE, IT CAN

TAKE BETWEEN 20 AND 30 CANS TO ACTUALLY DO IT.

(TOMMY)>> YOU KNOW SPRAYING A COUPLE OF CANS IS NOT A BIG DEAL BUT THAT'S A LOT OF AEROSOLS TO BE DEALING WITH. WELL CHECK THIS OUT. RUSTOLEUM PEEL COAT ALSO COMES IN GALLONS, AND LIKE THE AEROSOL VARIETY, IT'S A READY TO SPRAY FORMULA,

MEANING THERE'S NO MIXING OR THINNING INVOLVED. IF YOU'RE WORKING ON A LARGER PROJECT LIKE TRYING TO COVER AN ENTIRE CAR, THAT'S GONNA MEAN YOU'RE COVERING QUITE A BIT OF REAL ESTATE. THE GALLONS ARE THE WAY TO GO. NOW YOU'RE NOT GONNA ATTACK THE CAR WITH A ROLLER OR A BRUSH.

YOU'RE GONNA NEED A WAY TO NICELY LAY IT OUT ONTO THE CAR.

(MARC)>> WHAT WE'RE GONNA USE TO GET THE JOB DONE IS THIS WAGNER MOTO COAT SPRAYER. THIS THING'S PRETTY COOL. IT'S A SELF CONTAINED SPRAY SYSTEM FOR PEELABLE

COATINGS LIKE WE'RE GONNA BE LAYING DOWN. IT'S IDEAL FOR THE GUY WHO DOESN'T HAVE A LARGE AIR COMPRESSOR OR SPRAY GUN BUT IS LOOKING FOR THE ABILITY TO SAFELY SPRAY THIS TYPE OF COATING. THIS IS ALSO GOING TO GIVE YOU A MUCH MORE CONSISTENT FINISH ACROSS LARGE PANELS, AND MAKE YOUR LIFE A LOT EASIER SINCE YOU CAN GET COVERAGE VERY QUICKLY. THIS ISN'T THE UNIT YOU'D PAINT YOUR HOUSE WITH. IT'S PURPOSE BUILT FOR AUTOMOTIVE COATINGS, AND WITH A SWITCH TO THIS OTHER GUN YOU CAN LAY DOWN THINGS LIKE UNDERCOATING AND TRUCK BED LINER.

(TOMMY)>> MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS WASHED WITH SOAP

AND WATER BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. AND ONCE YOU START MASKING, YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT EVERYTHING LIKE YOU WOULD WITH PAINT. THERE'S NO NEED TO DO ANY MIXING OR THINNING.

JUST PUT IT STRAIGHT IN THE SPRAYER.

(MARC)>> BE SURE TO DO A LITTLE PRACTICE SPRAYING TO GET THE AIR FLOW AND MATERIAL FLOW DIALED IN. YOU CAN ALSO CHANGE THE ANGLE OF THE SPRAY PATTERN

BY TWISTING THE NOZZLE. THE FIRST COAT THAT YOU LAY DOWN SHOULD BE LIGHT WITH ABOUT 50 PERCENT COVERAGE.

(TOMMY)>> YOU CAN ALSO CHANGE THE SPRAY PATTERN TO A SMALL ROUND ONE BY TURNING THE NOZZLE TO A 45 DEGREE ANGLE FOR GETTING INTO CREVICES AND THINGS, LIKE THESE AIR INTAKES.

YOU ALSO WANT TO WIPE THE SPRAY TIP EVERY FEW MINUTES TO KEEP ANY OF THE COATING FROM DRYING ON IT.

(MARC)>> THE HIGH FLEX HOSE THAT COMES WITH THE SPRAYER IS 39 FEET, WHICH IS GONNA SAFELY GIVE YOU A LOT OF ROOM TO MANEUVER AROUND EVEN THE BIGGEST OF CARS. NOW ONCE YOU'VE WAITED 10 TO 15 MINUTES BETWEEN COATS YOU CAN HIT IT AGAIN. THE GOAL IS TO LAY DOWN AT LEAST FOUR TO FIVE COATS, WITH IT GETTING EASIER TO PEEL THE MORE YOU DO. GIVE IT A GOOD 50 PERCENT OVERLAP ON EACH PASS AND BE SURE THAT YOU'RE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA WHEN YOU SPRAY. AND HECK, THIS STUFF IS SO FORGIVING THEY EVEN LET ME DO THE LAST COAT.

(TOMMY)>> RIGHT AFTER YOU FINISH SPRAYING, GO AHEAD AND UNMASK EVERYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO BE COVERED. AT THIS STAGE THE COATING BREAKS VERY NICELY ALONG NATURAL SEAMS.

AND THERE YOU GO. WE'VE GOT OURSELVES AND BLACK TRANS AM BABY. WHERE'S BURT REYNOLDS?

SO WITH A LITTLE BIT OF TIME AND EVEN A SMALLER

AMOUNT OF EFFORT YOU TOO CAN COMPLETELY CHANGE THE ATTITUDE AND PERSONALITY OF YOUR OLD CAR. AND ONE NICE THING ABOUT IT IS YOU'RE REALLY NOT MARRIED TO IT.

(MARC)>> THAT'S RIGHT, NOW I DON'T CONSIDER MYSELF A PAINTER BY ANY MEANS BUT I APPLIED THE LAST COUPLE OF COATS OF THAT RUSTOLEUM PEEL COAT AND I HAVE TO SAY IT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD.

NOW WAGNER GUN MADE APPLICATION REALLY EASY, EVEN FOR A NOVICE LIKE ME.

(MARC)>> NOW WE'VE GOT A BUNCH OF OLD CAR PARTS LAYING AROUND, AND WE STUB OUR TOES ON THEM FROM TIME TO TIME, AND THAT'S THE CASE WITH THIS OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY HERE. IT'S A 305 AND IT'S PROBABLY WORTH JUST ABOUT MAYBE FIVE BUCKS, BUT COULD MAKE A BOAT ANCHOR OUT OF IT I GUESS, BUT I'VE GOT SOMETHING BETTER PLANNED. CHECK THIS OUT. FIRST THINGS FIRST... COME ON BABY! STRIP THIS GREASY IRON WEIGHT OF ITS UNWANTED COMPONENTS. SO WE'VE GOT OUR BLOCK ALL STRIPPED DOWN AND WE WENT AHEAD AND KNOCKED THE HEAVY GRIME OFF. THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE GOING DOWN TO ENGINE POWER. THEY'RE GONNA LET US USE THEIR HOT TANK. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS THING IS REALLY CLEAN FOR WHAT WE HAVE PLANNED. [ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> WE'LL SET THE PARTS WASHER AT 150 DEGREES FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. THAT SHOULD DO IT. ALRIGHT SO WE'RE BACK IN THE SHOP NOW. WE'VE GOT ALL OUR PARTS CLEANED UP. IT'S TIME TO REVEAL EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO. WE'RE TURNING THIS THING INTO A COFFEE TABLE. NOW YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THESE ONLINE BEFORE, AND THERE'S A FEW DIFFERENT WAYS THAT YOU CAN DO IT, AND EITHER WAY THE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY'S GONNA BE PERFECT FOR THIS PROJECT. NOW EVEN AFTER A TRIP TO THE HOT TANK A LOT OF THESE PARTS STILL HAVE CARBON BUILD UP ON THEM. SO WE NEED TO GET THEM CLEANED UP. NOW THESE PISTON AND ROD ASSEMBLIES, WELL THEY CAN GO RIGHT IN THE BLAST CABINET. AS FOR THE BLOCK, IT CAN GET CLEANED UP RIGHT HERE ON THE ENGINE STAND. WE HAVE A WIRE BRUSH, WIRE WHEEL, AND EVEN THESE ABRASIVE DISCS. NOW TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE THOROUGH. A CLEAN SURFACE IS A MUST FOR THE PAINT TO STICK. NOW THAT ABRASIVE DISC IS GREAT FOR THESE MACHINED AREAS LIKE THIS, BUT TO GET IN HERE WHERE ALL THIS TEXTURE IS AND IN TIGHT SPOTS WE NEED TO SWITCH TO THE WIRE WHEEL.

THE NEXT THING WE DID IS STEP IT DOWN TO AN EVEN SMALLER WHEEL FOR THOSE HARD TO REACH AREAS. NOW WE FINISHED KNOCKING ALL THE RUST OFF OF OUR

BLOCK WITH THOSE ABRASIVE PADS AND WIRE WHEELS, AND WE SPRAYED IT OFF WITH SOME BRAKE PARTS CLEANER TO GET ALL THE RESIDUE AND DUST OFF. WE ALSO HAVE OUR ROD AND PISTON ASSEMBLIES WE CLEANED UP IN THE BLAST CABINET, AND WE KNOCKED THE SKIRTS OFF WITH THE BAND SAW. WE ALSO HAMMERED THE STUDS OUT.

NOW WE JUST NEED TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE'RE GONNA MOUNT THESE THINGS TO OUR BLOCK. WELL WE DECIDED TO USE THE FRONT UPPER HEAD BOLT HOLE. IT'S JUST A SEVENSIXTEENTHS, SO WE

GRABBED A SEVENSIXTEENTH ARP FASTENER AND WE NOTCHED THE ROD A LITTLE BIT SO THAT IT WOULD FIT DOWN INSIDE THERE. THAT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD. IT'S AT TWO AND A HALF, IT LOOKS ABOUT 30 BY SAY 32. SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND GET A PIECE OF GLASS ORDERED FOR OUR TABLE TOP. IN THE MEAN TIME WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GET THIS THING TURNED OVER, GET OUR LEGS MADE.

YOU CAN SEE HERE WHERE WE CUT THE SKIRTS OFF OF THE PISTONS. THE REASON WE DID THAT IS SO THE PISTON CAN PIVOT AND BE SELF LEVELING. ALRIGHT THAT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD. NOW WE'VE GOT OUR FEET MOUNTED AND THE PEDESTALS AS WELL. THE ONLY THING WE HAVE LEFT TO DO IS PAINT THAT BLOCK. SO NOW WE'VE GOT TO UNDO ALL THIS WORK WE JUST DID.

WE USED DUPLICOLOR CAST IRON PAINT FOR THE LIFTER VALLEY AND THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK TO GIVE IT A BARE BLOCK LOOK.

ONCE THE THREE COATS OF PAINT WERE DRY, WE WIPED OFF THE SURFACE AREA WITH LACQUER THINNER TO CLEAN OFF ANY OVERSPRAY.

AFTER MASKING UP THE PAINTED SURFACES, I'M READY TO MAKE OVER THIS HEAP OF JUNKYARD SCRAP INTO A WORK OF ART. SPRAYING ON THREE COATS OF DUPLICOLOR CHEVY ORANGE WILL TRANSFORM THIS SMALL BLOCK INTO A LIVING ROOM CENTER PIECE. WITH THE COLOR DRY WE CAN START ADDING CLEAR.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP TO PROTECT NOT ONLY THE COLOR YOU SPRAYED ON BUT ALSO THE BARE METAL PIECES.

NOW WE'VE GOT OUR BLOCK ALL PAINTED UP AND CLEARED WITH A GLOSSY CLEAR. EVEN THOSE BARE METAL SURFACES ARE CLEARED

SO THEY DON'T RUST. WE ALSO DID OUR PISTON AND ROD ASSEMBLES WITH A MATTE CLEAR, JUST TO MAKE THEM LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT. NOW IT'S TIME TO GET THIS THING ASSEMBLED.

WELL OUR CUSTOM PIECE OF GLASS CAME IN AND WE WENT AHEAD AND INSTALLED IT ON OUR TABLE, AND WE'VE GOT IT UP HERE IN THE LOBBY IN THE FRONT OF OUR BUILDING AND WE'VE GOT ABOUT $350 DOLLARS IN THIS THING, WHICH REALLY ISN'T BAD CONSIDERING HOW COOL AND UNIQUE IT IS. NOW WE JUST NEED TO GET SOME FURNITURE TO MATCH. THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE TODAY. SEE Y'ALL NEXT TIME.
