(ANNOUNCER)>> WHEN WE SAW THIS HOT ROD JEEP ROLLING

DOWN THE ROAD, WE JUST HAD TO HAVE ONE OF OUR OWN. TODAY ON XTREME 4X4, OUR JUNKYARD JK BUILD CONTINUES WITH FULL BODY ARMOR, A SLEEK ROLL CAGE,

AND 44 INCH TALL TIRES.

(IAN)>> THAT IS THE DASH OUT OF OUR 2007 JEEP JK PROJECT. NOW THIS IS OUR HOT ROD THEMED ROCK CRAWLER. A PROJECT THAT'S BEEN INSPIRED BY KENNY HAUK AND HIS PHOENIX RIG THAT HE BUILT AT

RIVER RAIDER OFF ROAD. NOW THIS WAS HIS IDEA OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU COMBINED A HARDCORE ROCK CRAWLER WITH A CUSTOM STREET ROD. SPECIAL TOUCHES LIKE A LEANED BACK WINDSHIELD AND A SLEEK STANCE, AND TONS OF POWER UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. FOR OUR PROJECT WE INSTALLED A FOUR AND A HALF INCH BDS SUSPENSION LIFT.

BOLTING THAT UP TO A SET OF ROUGH STUFF NINE INCH AXLE HOUSINGS AND FILLING THEM WITH YUKON GEARS AND LOCKERS. THEN WE FINISHED THE WHOLE PACKAGE OFF WITH SOME 44 INCH TALL PIT BULLS AND DROPPED OUR HEMI

BACK INTO THE FRAME. NOW TODAY ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS TAKE CARE OF ALL THE BODY

MODS TO TRANSFORM THIS JK FROM A GOOD MODERN FAMILY VEHICLE INTO A FULL ON HOT ROD. NOW THAT'S ACTUALLY PRETTY EASY BECAUSE WE JUST HAVE TO TAKE ALL OF THIS STUFF OUT OF THE TRUCK CAUSE HOT RODS WON'T HAVE CARPET, AND PLASTIC DASHBOARDS, AND A/C VENTS, AND A BUNCH OF KNOBS AND SWITCHES. ALL THEY HAVE IS METAL, SEATS, AND SOME GAUGES.

NOW WE'RE GONNA STEAL THE DESIGN CUES FOR OUR BODY MODS FROM A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT VEHICLES. THE FIRST IS THE CLASSIC JEEP CJ SEVEN. YOU REMEMBER HOW IT HAD A NICE, BIG, FLAT ALL STEEL DASH WITH ONE LARGE GAUGE RIGHT IN THE CENTER, VERY HOT ROD LOOKING. SO THAT IS WHAT WE'RE GONNA BUILD. TO REALLY SELL THE LOOK I PICKED UP TWO FIVE INCH GAUGES FROM AUTO METER AS PART OF THEIR VINTAGE LINE,

A SPEEDO AND A TACH, AND A QUAD ELECTRIC GAUGE THAT JUST HAS THAT CLASSIC STYLE THAT WE'RE AFTER. NOW JUST LIKE OUR INSPIRATION JEEP, WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND LEAN OUR WINDSHIELD FRAME BACK PROBABLY AROUND FIVE INCHES TO GIVE US THAT SLEEK LOOK. BUT WE'RE GONNA TAKE IT ONE STEP FURTHER AND I'M ACTUALLY GONNA CHOP THIS WINDSHIELD DOWN, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT YOU'D SEE IN A LOT OF HOT RODS. NOW FOR THE BACK OF THE JEEP WE'RE NOT GONNA RUN A BACK SEAT IN THIS RIG. JUST A DRIVER AND A PASSENGER SEAT. WE'RE GONNA STEAL AN IDEA FOR THE BACK OF THIS TRUCK FROM A LOT OF VINTAGE RACE CARS, AND THAT IS AN ALL STEEL COVER OVER THE ENTIRE BACK OF THE JEEP. NOW WE'LL PROBABLY WORK IN A LITTLE STORAGE HERE AND THERE, BUT BASICALLY BY CAPPING THE BACK OF THIS JEEP, MAKING IT A TWO SEATER WITH THAT FLAT METAL DASH AND THE CHOPPED WINDSHIELD, THAT'LL REALLY SELL OUR HOT ROD THEME. TO BUILD OUR FLAT DASH THE FIRST STEP IS TO CREATE THE STRUCTURE OUT OF ONE INCH SQUARE TUBING.

AFTER TEST FITTING IT INTO THE TUB, IT'S REMOVED AND FINISH WELDED. THE DASH IS A SINGLE PIECE OF 16 GAUGE FLAT STEEL. AND AFTER TRIMMING IT TO FIT, THE HOLES ARE CUT FOR BOTH OF OUR GAUGES AND THE DASH IS INSTALLED.

TO LAY OUR WINDSHIELD BACK, THE MIDDLE HINGE IS UNBOLTED FROM THE TUB, AND A TEMPORARY BRACE IS INSTALLED TO HOLD IT. THE OUTER DASH SUPPORT PLATES ARE CUT AND REWELDED TO HOLD THE WINDSHIELD AT ITS NEW ANGLE.

FOR OUR CHOP IT'S AS EASY AS CUT, GRIND, WELD, THEN REPEAT.

(ANNOUNCER)>> UP NEXT, A ROLL CAGE THAT PAYS TRIBUTE TO CLASSIC HOT ROD STYLE. PLUS HYDRAULIC STEERING TO CONTROL OUR OVERSIZED RUBBER.

(IAN)>> NOW ON THE BODY OF OUR HOT ROD JK WE NEED TO BE SURE THAT IT LOOKS COOL BUT THAT IT'S ALSO PROTECTED WHEN WE'RE ON THE TRAIL. BUT WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS WRAP THE ENTIRE SIDE OF THE JEEP IN SOME FLAT PLATE STEEL. NOW IT'S GONNA START WITH THESE HEAVY DUTY CORNER GUARDS THAT WE GOT FROM RIVER RAIDER OFF ROAD. THEY'RE DESIGNED TO BOLT ONTO THE BACK OF ANY JEEP JK TUB AND PROTECT IT WHEN IT'S ON THE TRAIL THANKS TO ITS THREESIXTEENTHS INCH STEEL CONSTRUCTION. NOW WE'LL JUST PLAY OFF THIS DESIGN AND CONTINUE THAT FLAT PLATE STEEL ALL THE WAY UP THE TOP.

AND TO ADD A LITTLE FLARE WE'RE GONNA ADD A TUBULAR RUB RAIL UP THE TOP OF THE TUB JUST TO GIVE IT SOME STYLE AND PROTECT THIS RIG WHEN WE'RE ON THE TRAIL. THE FACTORY JEEP TUB NEEDS TO BE TRIMMED SLIGHTLY IN

ORDER FOR THE RIVER RAIDER CORNER GUARDS TO FIT FLUSH.

THEN WITH THEM CLAMPED INTO PLACE, WE'LL USE A CENTER PUNCH TO MARK ALL THE MOUNTING HOLES, DRILL THEM OUT, AND INSTALL THE NUTSERTS.

THE NEXT STEP IS TO MAKE CARDBOARD TEMPLATES FOR EACH

OF THE PANELS THAT WE'LL BOLT ONTO THE SIDE

OF THE JEEP'S TUB. THEN THE TEMPLATES ARE TRANSFERRED ONTO SOME FLAT PLATE AND CUT OUT WITH THE PLASMA CUTTER.

NEXT THEY'LL BE DRESSED WITH AN DA SANDER WITH A 30 GRIT PAD TO GIVE THEM A SATIN FINISH. THEN THE PLATES ARE MOCKED INTO PLACE.

TO FINISH OUT OUR CHOPPED TOP WINDSHIELD A PIECE OF LEXAN IS CUT TO FIT.

AND A 52 INCH BLACK NIGHT LIGHTING DOUBLE STACK LED BAR WILL FINISH OUT THE TOP. TO COMPLETE THE ARMOR PACKAGE, A SET OF RIVER RAIDER OFF ROAD HEAVY DUTY JK FENDERS ARE MOCKED UP TO CHECK FOR CLEARANCE. THESE WIDE TUBULAR FENDERS WILL NOT ONLY GIVE US MORE TIRE COVERAGE, THEY'LL HELP MAKE OUR JEEP LOOK EVEN LOWER AND FATTER. NOW WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT A TRADITIONAL HOT ROD,

YOU THINK ABOUT TWO SMALL LEATHER WRAPPED BUCKET SEATS. AND FOR OUR JEEP WE GOT THE OFF ROAD EQUIVALENT. THESE ARE MASTERCRAFT SAFETY POWER SPORT SEATS.

THEY'RE DESIGNED TO FIT IN A SIDE BY SIDE. WE HAD THEM WRAPPED WITH BLACK VINYL. THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT SMALLER THAN THEIR TRADITIONAL SUSPENSION SEAT, BUT THEY STILL GIVE US ALL THE BENEFITS OF THAT PERFORMANCE SEAT WHEN WE'RE OFF ROAD. NOW THE LOW BACK STYLE JUST TIES INTO THAT NOSTALGIA HOT ROD LOOK, BUT YOU STILL WANT SOME HEAD SUPPORT WHEN YOU'RE OFF ROAD.

SO WE HAD THEM INCLUDE TWO OF THEIR SMALL HEAD CUSHIONS THAT WE'LL BUILD INTO THE CAGE TO JUST KEEP YOU SAFE WHEN YOU'RE WHEELING THIS RIG. THE BEST PART IS ONCE WE HAVE THESE MOUNTED IN OUR JEEP, WE'LL HAVE THAT TRADITIONAL HOT ROD LOOK WITH SOME OFF ROAD SAFETY.

THE CAGE FOR OUR JEEP WILL BE A SLEEK CHOPPED TOP STYLE TO MATCH OUR CUT DOWN WINDSHIELD. ONCE I HAVE THE DESIGN I LIKE DRAWN IN BEND TECH PRO, IT'S JUST A MATTER OF CUTTING UP SOME TUBE, BENDING IT, NOTCHING A FEW JOINTS, AND TACKING IT INTO PLACE.

THE HEAD REST MOUNTS WERE INSPIRED FROM A CLASSIC HOT ROD, THE A/C COBRA, AND REALLY TO FINISH OFF THE LOOK WE'RE GOING FOR.

(ANNOUNCER)>> COMING UP, A HEMI DRIVETRAIN THAT'S TRULY PLUG AND PLAY.

(IAN)>> OUR JEEP BODY IS READY TO DROP DOWN OVER OUR

CHASSIS, BUT WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF A COUPLE OF THINGS WITH IT UP AND STILL OUT OF THE WAY. THE FIRST IS ELECTRONICS FOR OUR ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. NOW WE OPTED FOR A 100 PERCENT NEW WIRING HARNESS

THAT WE GOT FROM HOTWIRE AUTO. NOW IT WORKS HAND IN HAND WITH A REFLASHED FACTORY ECU THAT MAKE THIS INSTALL A TRUE THREE WIRE HOOK UP. WE'LL BASICALLY NEED CONSTANT POWER, SWITCHED

POWER, AND THEN A COUPLE OF GROUNDS. NOW THE NICE THING ABOUT THE HOT WIRE HARNESSES IS THEY SPECIALIZE IN INTEGRATION. WE TOLD THEM THAT WE WERE RUNNING AFTERMARKET GAUGES, SO THEY ADDED THE WIRES FOR THE SENSORS INTO THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE HARNESS, AND THEN TERMINATED THEM BACK AT THE LOOP THAT WILL END UP UNDERNEATH THE DASH. THAT'LL JUST MAKE THE INSTALL A LOT CLEANER ON THIS JEEP. NOW TO GET FUEL UP TO OUR ENGINE, WE'RE GONNA BE USING A COMPLETE KIT FROM AEROMOTIVE. IT'S NEW BILLET FUEL RAILS ON THE ENGINE, A NEW FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, AND THEIR NEW AEROMOTIVE STEALTH IN TANK PUMP SYSTEM. THIS BASICALLY WORKS TO MODIFY ANY FACTORY OR AFTERMARKET FUEL TANK, AND INCLUDES THIS HAT THAT WE'LL BOLT INTO PLACE AND PUT THE PUMP INSIDE THE TANK. THE KIT COMES WITH EVERYTHING ELSE WE NEED TO INSTALL IT, ALL THE LINES AND THE FITTINGS. AND ONCE WE HAVE THIS IN OUR JEEP, WELL THAT ENGINE'S ALMOST READY TO RUN.

THE FACTORY FUEL RAIL IS REMOVED FROM THE MOTOR AND ALL THE INJECTORS ARE TAKEN OUT. AND AFTER LUBRICATING THE ORINGS, THEY'RE INSTALLED INTO OUR NEW AEROMOTIVE BILLET FUEL RAIL. WITH THE NEW FUEL RAILS INSTALLED ONTO THE MOTOR, THE WIRING HARNESS CAN BE PUT IN PLACE. IT TRULY IS PLUG AND PLAY THANKS TO THE LABELED CONNECTORS AND THE FACTORY LAYOUT. ANOTHER ITEM THAT'S GOING TO BE EASIER TO KNOCK OUT WHILE THE BODY IS STILL UP ON THE LIFT IS GOING TO BE OUR

STEERING SYSTEM.

NOW WE OPTED FOR A FULL HYDRAULIC SET UP FROM PSC. IT STARTS WITH A HIGH FLOW, HIGH PRESSURE PUMP THAT WILL

BOLT DIRECTLY UP TO OUR HEMI VEIGHT. NOW THESE OVER SIZE DOUBLE ENDED STEERING RAM IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR HIGH HORSEPOWER APPLICATIONS AND EXTRA LARGE TIRES, LIKE OUR 44'S.

NOW SINCE IT'S A FULL HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEM WE'LL HAVE TO MOUNT AN ORBITAL VALVE THAT'LL HOOK UP TO THE STEERING WHEEL, AND AN EXTRA LARGE STEERING RESERVOIR TO HOLD ALL THE FLUID THAT WE NEED. NOW ONE UNIQUE NEW FEATURE THAT PSC OFFERS IS A BRACKET TO HOLD THAT RESERVOIR THAT WE'LL MOUNT OFF OF THE JK'S BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THE STEERING RAM WILL BE CENTERED ON THE FRONT AXLE. AND WITH IT SITTING ON SOME JACK STANDS, A FRONT MOUNT IS BUILT BY BENDING SOME INCH AND THREE QUARTER DOM TUBING AND CUTTING UP QUARTER INCH PLATE.

THE RTECH DOUBLE SHEAR HIGH STEER ARMS ARE ASSEMBLED WITH THE HEIM JOINT IN PLACE AND THE SPACERS ARE CUT. THEN THE TIE RODS ARE MEASURED AND BUILT USING SOME QUARTER INCH WALLED DOM.

ONCE ASSEMBLED, THE ROLLING CHASSIS IS FINALLY READY TO BE MOVED UNDER THE BODY OF OUR JEEP.

(ANNOUNCER)>> UP NEXT, WE PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES

ON OUR JUNKYARD JK.

(IAN)>> SINCE WE HAD TO PULL THE REAR TIRES AND WHEELS OFF OUR FRAME TO PUT THE BODY BACK ON, THIS IS A

PERFECT TIME FOR US TO FINISH OUT OUR REAR BRAKE SETUP. NOW IF YOU REMEMBER WE'RE DOING A DISC BRAKE SWAP ON THE REAR AND TO FINISH IT OUT WE'VE GOT SOME WELD ON BRACKETS THAT WE GOT FROM TMR CUSTOMS, AND SOME FACTORY 1985 CHEVY HALF TON CALIPERS THAT WE GOT FROM ROCK AUTO DOT COM. NOW SINCE WE'RE ROLLING ON A SET OF 44'S, WE'VE GOT THAT

VEIGHT POWER UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, WE WANT TO UPGRADE OUR BRAKE PADS. SO WE'RE GONNA USE SOME EBC BRAKES GREEN STUFF PADS.

NOW THESE ARE FOUR BY FOUR SPECIFIC HEAVY DUTY PADS AND THEY COME WITH THIS BREAK IN COATING ON THEM THAT HELPS THEM BED TO THE ROTOR A LOT FASTER. SO WE'LL HAVE THAT IMPROVED BRAKING ON OUR FIRST TRIP OUT. WITH THE CALIPER, EBC PADS, AND BRACKET ASSEMBLED, IT SLID OVER THE ROTOR AND TACKED TO THE AXLE HOUSING. THEN WITH THE BODY BACK ON WE CAN FINISH OUT OUR FUEL SYSTEM. NOW WE ARE USING AN ALUMINUM FUEL CELL THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING, AND WE'VE MOUNTED IT IN THE BACK OF THE JEEP WITH SOME RTECH INDUSTRY FUEL CELL STRAPS. NOW IF YOU REMEMBER WE'RE USING AN AEROMOTIVE STEALTH

IN TANK PUMP SYSTEM.

SO THAT FUEL CELL NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED. THE TOP OF THE CELL NEEDS TO BE CUT OPEN USING A HOLE SAW. THEN THE MOUNTING HOLES ARE DRILLED AND ALL THE METAL

SHAVINGS ARE CLEANED OUT USING A SHOP VAC. THEN WITH THE PROTECTIVE RING IN PLACE, THE SUMP AND THE SOCK ARE STUFFED INTO THE TANK. THE INNER RING, GASKET, AND PUMP ASSEMBLY ARE THEN INSTALLED AND SECURED.

HEY WITH THE TANK BACK IN THE JEEP, THE FEED AND RETURN FUEL LINES ARE HOOKED UP FROM THE ENGINE. NOW THIS IS OUR VERSION OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COMBINE A HARDCORE ROCK CRAWLER AND A CUSTOM STREET ROD. WE'VE GOT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. WE'VE GOT HARDCORE OFF ROAD RUNNING GEAR WITH FABRICATED NINE INCH AXLE, A FOUR AND A HALF INCH SUSPENSION LIFT, ATLAS TWO TRANSFER CASE AND FULL HYDRAULIC STEERING. BUT WE ALSO HAVE THAT STYLE THAT GOES ALONG WITH A CUSTOM HOT ROD. WITH OUR CHOPPED TOP, OUR BUCKET SEATS, AND THE

LAID BACK WINDSHIELD. NOW YEAH, OBVIOUSLY WE STILL HAVE A FEW MORE THINGS TO DO TO THIS RIG, BUT IT'S CERTAINLY CHANGED A LOT FROM

THE TRUCK THAT FIRST ROLLED INTO THE SHOP.

NOW THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE OUR HARDCORE HOT ROD JK WELL THESE PIT BULL TIRES. THEY'RE GONNA BE TEARING UP THE DIRT WHILE WE'RE RIDING IN STYLE. FOR DETAILS ON ANY OF THE PRODUCTS SEEN IN TODAYS' EPISODE, HEAD ON OVER TO POWERBLOCK TV DOM COM.
