(ANNOUNCER)>> THERE'S A REASON WE CALL THIS RUSTED OUT JEEP PROJECT LOCKJAW. TODAY ON XTREME OFF ROAD WE REMOVE THE ROT FROM OUR M-715 AND GIVE THE CAB SOME STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. PLUS WE'LL FINISH UP OUR YJ BUILD AND TAKE IT ON THE TRAIL.

(IAN)>> THAT'S IMPRESSIVE RIGHT THERE. IN THAT MUD, CRAWL UP THAT, THAT'S CRAZY, CRAZY!

(IAN)>> TODAY IN THE XOR SHOP WE'VE GOT TWO VERY

DIFFERENT JEEPS. OUR WD 40 SPECIALIST XTREME OFF ROAD MACHINE, A FULL CUSTOM JEEP YJ THAT'S A GIVEAWAY JEEP. ONE OF YOU GUYS AT HOME IS GONNA WIN THIS. AND IT'S BUILT WITH THE BEST OF THE BEST. ONLY THE TOP NOTCH PARTS LANDED ON THIS PROJECT. I'M GONNA FINISH THAT UP, TAKE IT OUT FOR A TRAIL RIDE.

BUT BEFORE I START WORKING ON THAT, I'M GONNA JUMP BACK ONTO PROJECT LOCKJAW, THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF OUR GIVEAWAY JEEP. THIS IS A FULL SIZE JEEP PICK UP, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IT'S ALL JUNKYARD, ALL RECYCLING, ALL USED PARTS, ALL BUILT TO MAKE THIS TRUCK GOOD AS NEW.

HOW COULD IT BE ALL RUSTY BUT THAT STRONG STILL? THE GOAL TODAY IS TO REPLACE THESE ROTTEN OUT FLOOR PANS INSIDE THE CAB. OUR PROBLEM IS IS THAT FLOOR PANS ARE MADE UP OF TWO THINGS. THERE'S THE ACTUAL PAN AND THE STRUCTURE UNDERNEATH. NOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE STRUCTURE, IT'S A LITTLE BIT RUSTY, BUT IT'S STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE, NOT SO LUCKY. THE PAN'S GONE AND THE STRUCTURE IS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. HONESTLY I THINK THE ONLY THING HOLDING THIS CAB TOGETHER RIGHT NOW IS THE FACT THAT I HAVEN'T OPENED

THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND IT'S STILL BOLTED ONTO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. SO BEFORE I START CUTTING OUT ANY FLOOR PAN, THE FIRST THING I HAVE TO DO IS BRACE UP THIS CAB.

THE BRACING IS CUT OUT OF ONE INCH SQUARE TUBING. AND AFTER PREPPING THE CAB, GETS TACKED INTO PLACE.

[ welder crackling ]

(IAN)>> ONCE IT'S FULLY WELDED, THE CAB IS STRONG ENOUGH TO BE REMOVED FROM THE FRAME.

WHEN THIS CAB WAS PUT TOGETHER AT THE FACTORY, IT WAS BASICALLY DONE IN THREE STEPS.

THE STRUCTURE WAS INSTALLED UNDERNEATH, AND THAT'S BASICALLY THE CAB MOUNTS. THEN THE FLOOR WAS LAID OVER TOP OF IT AND SPOT WELDED IN PLACE. AND LASTLY THIS BRACE THAT TIES THE TWO "B" PILLARS WAS PUT ON TOP OF THE FLOOR AND SPOT WELDED IT OUT. BASICALLY MAKING A THREE PIECE METAL SANDWICH. NOW IF I WAS GONNA REPLACE ALL OF THIS FLOOR WITH FACTORY PIECES I'D WANT TO DRILL OUT ALL THESE SPOT

WELDS, REPLACE THIS BRACE, REPLACE THIS UNDER STRUCTURE, AND THEN PUT IT BACK TOGETHER THE SAME WAY IT WAS WHEN IT WAS BUILT ORIGINALLY. BUT I'M NOT GONNA DO THAT. I HAVE TO CUT OUT A BUNCH OF THAT FLOOR ANYWAY TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE TRANSFER CASE THAT I PLAN TO INSTALL BACK HERE. THERE WASN'T A HUMP IN THE STOCK FLOOR FOR IT. SO IT'D HAVE TO BE REBUILT. SO INSTEAD I'M JUST GONNA BUILD AN ENTIRELY NEW FLOOR FROM SCRATCH USING SOME OF THIS SQUARE TUBING AND SOME SIXTEEN GAUGE STEEL. BEFORE I DO THAT THOUGH, I DO NEED TO REBUILD THIS ONE PIECE OF STRUCTURE RIGHT HERE THAT TIES INTO THIS BACK CAB MOUNT JUST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS LEVEL.

THEN I'LL PULL THE CAB OFF AND BUILD A NEW FLOOR.

THE NEW FLOOR STRUCTURE IS BUILT INTO PLACE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK'S CAB USING ONE INCH BY

ONE INCH SQUARE TUBING.

USING THE STRONG HAND TOOLS FAB TABLE I THEN BUILD AN IDENTICAL STRUCTURE FOR THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE TRUCK RIGHT ON TOP OF IT, KEEPING IT

CLAMPED IN PLACE DURING THE WELDING

AND COOLING PROCESS. [ welder crackling ]

(IAN)>> 16 GAUGE SHEET IS THEN CUT FOR THE NEW STRUCTURE, WELDED INTO PLACE, AND INSTALLED ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAB. NOW THIS IS A SOMEWHAT NONCONVENTIONAL FLOOR REPAIR. IT DOESN'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE FACTORY FLOOR BUT THAT IS OKAY BECAUSE WE'RE BUILDING A PURE OFF ROAD TRUCK HERE. I'VE REPLACED ALL THE MISSING STRUCTURE AND EVEN MADE IT STRONGER BY ADDING ADDITIONAL BRACES, AND THAT FLAT 16 GAUGE FLOOR WILL GIVE US SOMETHING TO MOUNT THE SEATS AND THE CAGE TO VERY EASILY. NOW I DIDN'T BUILD THE CENTER HUMP YET CAUSE I'M NOT GONNA DO THAT UNTIL THE CAB IS BACK ON THE FRAME, MAKE SURE I HAVE CLEARANCE FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE. ALL I HAVE TO DO NOW IS DUPLICATE THIS FLOOR ON THE OTHER SIDE.

(ANNOUNCER)>> WITH A FIVE POINT THREE LITER VEIGHT, CUSTOM FOUR LINK SUSPENSION, AND AGGRESSIVE 42 INCH TIRES, OUR JEEP YJ IS A CERTIFIED TRAIL KILLER. AND THE BEST THING ABOUT IT, YOU CAN ENTER TO WIN IT. COMING UP WE'LL PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON THIS RIG AND TAKE IT FOR A SPIN ON THE ROCKS.

(IAN)>> WITH THE FLOORS FINISHED UP IN OUR LOCKJAW

PROJECT, WE'RE GONNA SPEND THE REST OF TODAY WORKING ON OUR WD 40 SPECIALIST XTREME OFF ROAD MACHINE AND WE'RE GONNA HIT THE TRAIL WITH IT. NOW THIS IS A GIVEAWAY JEEP, AND ONE OF YOU ARE

GONNA WIN A PRETTY SERIOUS OFF ROAD MACHINE. BUT TRUST ME, IT DID NOT START OUT

LOOKING THIS GOOD. WHEN WD 40 ASKED ME TO BUILD THEM A ONE OF A KIND OFF ROAD MACHINE, I KNEW IT WOULD BE A CHALLENGE. SO I WENT AND PICKED UP WHAT IS OFTEN CONSIDERED THE LEAST DESIRABLE JEEP ON THE PLANET, A 1990 JEEP YJ, WITH IT'S LOW SLUNG SUSPENSION AND SQUARE HEADLIGHTS. AND THIS PARTICULAR ONE WAS A LITTLE WORSE FOR WEAR. IT WAS TORN DOWN COMPLETELY AND ONLY FIVE PARTS WERE KEPT FOR OUR NEW JEEP BUILD, THE HOOD, WINDSHIELD FRAME, GRILL SHELL, STEERING COLUMN, AND MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. EVERYTHING ELSE ENDED UP AS SCRAP. A NEW FULL TUBE CHASSIS WAS BROUGHT INTO THE SHOP

ALONG WITH AN ALL ALUMINUM JEEP BODY.

AND WITH THE OLD WINDSHIELD FRAME, HOOD, AND GRILL SHELL DROPPED INTO PLACE, THE PROJECT REALLY STARTED TAKING SHAPE. A SET OF JUNKYARD AXLES FRONT, FRONT AND REAR CUSTOM FOUR LINK SUSPENSION, AND INCH AND A QUARTER HEIMS, ALL SITTING ON 42 INCH TALL TIRES. THE AXLE HOUSINGS WERE MODIFIED BY UPGRADING TO A SET OF KING PIN KNUCKLES AND HIGH STEER ARMS. AND THE INTERNALS, 4.56 GEARS, AIR LOCKERS, AND CHROMOLY AXLE SHAFTS. THE DRIVETRAIN'S NOT GONNA BE PULLING ANY PUNCHES EITHER. A GM FIVE POINT THREE ENGINE WAS TORN DOWN AND A NEW CAM AND EFI SYSTEM WERE INSTALLED. BEHIND IT A TURBO 400 WITH REVERSE MANUAL VALVE BODY AND A 2,500 RPM STALL. THE TRANSFER CASE, NONE OTHER THAN THE ATLAS TWO WITH A 3.8 TO ONE LOWER RANGE RATIO. THE BODY WAS THEN PREPPED WITH THE FUEL CELL AND SOME STORAGE.

AND AFTER TEST FITTING IT ONTO THE CHASSIS, THE FLOOR WAS CLEARANCED FOR THE DRIVETRAIN AND THE

BODY DROPPED BACK INTO PLACE. NOW THIS JEEP LOOKS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN THE LAST TIME YOU SAW IT. IT'S OBVIOUSLY BEEN COMPLETELY PUT TOGETHER, AND THAT'S BECAUSE I HAD TO DO A PILE OF WORK WHEN YOU WEREN'T AROUND TO GET THIS RIG READY FOR A VERY SPECIAL DATE. IT WAS CHOSEN TO BE PUT ON DISPLAY AT THE 2014 SEMA SHOW. SO I MADE SOME COFFEE AND BURNED THE MIDNIGHT OIL TO COMPLETE THIS RIG IN TIME FOR IT TO BE LOADED ONTO A TRUCK AND HAULED TO LAS VEGAS.

THE JEEP WAS A HUGE HIT. IT WAS ACTUALLY CHOSEN AS ONE OF THE TOP 15 JEEPS AT THIS YEAR'S SEMA SHOW. DEFINITELY AN HONOR TO HAVE. WHAT MAKES THAT EVEN COOLER IS WHOEVER WINS THIS RIG, THEY'RE NOT JUST GONNA BE OUT WHEELING IN A HARDCORE OFF ROAD JEEP BUILT HERE IN

THE XTREME SHOP. THEY'RE GONNA BE PUNISHING TRAILS IN AN ACTUAL SEMA SHOW CAR, SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN TOO OFTEN. NOW I STILL HAVE A COUPLE OF ODDS AND ENDS TO TAKE CARE OF ON THIS RIG, BUT ONCE I DO THAT WE'RE GONNA BE GETTING SOME DIRT ON THESE TIRES.

(ANNOUNCER)>> UP NEXT, WE'LL GIVE THE YJ SOME POWERFUL TRAIL LIGHTING. PLUS A TWO PASS RADIATOR TO KEEP THINGS COOL ON THE TRAIL.

(IAN)>> BEFORE WE HIT THE DIRT IN OUR WD 40 SPECIALIST XTREME OFF ROAD MACHINE, I HAVE TO FINISH HOOKING UP A BUNCH OF LITTLE THINGS.

NOW THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN WHEN YOU PREP A RIG LIKE THIS FOR A SHOW LIKE THE SEMA SHOW. YOU QUITE OFTEN JUST INSTALL STUFF AND YOU DON'T NECESSARILY FINISH THE JOB COMPLETELY. PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THAT IS OUR REAR FACING LED LIGHT BAR. NOW I REALLY LIKE THIS BAR THAT I GOT FROM ROUGH STUFF SPECIALTIES CAUSE IT HAS A RACY LOOK TO IT BUT STILL HAS ALL THE LIGHTS WE'D NEED IF WE'D EVER WANTED TO DRIVE THIS JEEP ON THE STREET. A COUPLE OF REAR FACING AMBERS TO BE RUNNING LIGHTS OR TURN SIGNALS. A REAR FACING RED, ALSO A RUNNING LIGHT AND A BRAKE LIGHT. AND THAT CLEAR LIGHT IS NOT CLEAR. THAT IS ACTUALLY A REAR FACING BLUE LIGHT BECAUSE

IF WHOEVER WINS THIS JEEP WANTS TO GO OUT AND DO PIT SUPPORT OR RECOVERY IN AN OFF ROAD DESERT RACE, A VEHICLE LIKE THIS NEEDS TO HAVE THAT REAR FACING BLUE LIGHT TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE RACE COURSE. ALL I HAVE TO DO NOW IS FINISH WIRING IT UP. I HAVE ALREADY COMPLETELY WIRED THE JEEP USING A WIRING HARNESS AND FUSE BLOCK KIT THAT I GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. AND LEFT JUST ENOUGH EXTRA WIRES TO RUN UP THE ROLL CAGE TO THE BAR. TO WIRE THE ACTUAL LIGHT IT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE JEEP AND THE PANEL ON THE BACK TAKEN OFF. THE RUNNING LIGHTS ARE DETERMINED BY POWERING UP EACH ONE WITH THE POWER PROBE, AND GANGING THE

WIRE TOGETHER TO BE ENERGIZED BY THE IGNITION KEY.

MOST THINGS ON THIS RIG HAD TO BE 100 PERCENT DONE TO MAKE THIS JEEP DRIVABLE FOR THE SHOW, LIKE THE EXHAUST. USING A SET OF GIBSON 2012 CAMARO LS CERAMIC COATED HEADERS, I BUILT A CUSTOM TWO AND A HALF INCH STAINLESS STEEL MANDREL BENT EXHAUST THAT FLOWS THROUGH A GIBSON MUFFLER, AND IT SOUNDS AWESOME.

THE ORACLE 50 INCH LED LIGHT BAR AND HID HEADLIGHTS WERE INSTALLED AND WIRED UP. AN AIRAID YOU BUILD IT INTAKE KIT WAS CUT TO FIT, AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM FULLY PLUMBED WITH CROWN PERFORMANCE BRAKE LINES TO MAKE THIS JEEP STOP. AND A SET OF JE REEL DRIVELINES WERE INSTALLED TO MAKE IT GO. TO FINISH OFF THE INTERIOR WASN'T THAT HARD.

A SET OF MASTERCRAFT SAFETY SUSPENSION SEATS

FROM RUSTY'S OFF ROAD WERE BOLTED INTO THE CAGE, AND

THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE JEEP WAS COATED WITH UPOLE RAPTOR LINER. EVEN THOUGH THE FRONT OF THE JEEP LOOKS LIKE IT'S READY TO HIT THE TRAIL, IT'S NOT. I INSTALLED THE RADIATOR THAT'S IN HERE OUT OF ANOTHER PROJECT. I BASICALLY BORROWED TO GET IT THROUGH THE SHOW. IT IS AN LS SWAP JEEP YJ RADIATOR. FINE FOR AN LS WITH A VEIGHT IN IT, NOT GOOD FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT. SEE IT HANGS WELL BELOW OUR CUT DOWN GRILL SHELL. AND AT FULL COMPRESSION THE AXLE TRUSS' ACTUALLY GONNA CONTACT THAT BOTTOM TANK. NOT A BIG DEAL IF THIS TRUCK'S GONNA SPEND ITS LIFE JUST SITTING AT A TRADE SHOW. BUT THIS RIG IS BUILT TO BE WHEELED.

SO THAT RADIATOR HAS GOT TO COME OUT AND I'VE GOT A NEW ONE READY TO GO IN.

THERE WE GO.

I LOOKED AT A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT OFF THE SHELF RADIATORS AND TRIED TO MAKE THEM WORK WITH THIS CHASSIS. IT JUST WASN'T GONNA HAPPEN. BEST SOLUTION WAS A FULLY CUSTOMIZED RADIATOR LIKE THIS ALUMINUM ONE FROM PERFORMANCE ROD AND CUSTOM. NOW THIS IS A THICK, HEAVY DUTY, FABRICATED TWO CORE ALUMINUM RADIATOR, AND IT'S SPECIFICALLY SET UP FOR THE LS BASED ENGINE. THAT MEANS IT HAS THE INLET AND THE OUTLET ON ONE SIDE OF THE RADIATOR, AND HAS A THREADED BUNG THAT WE CAN SCREW A FITTING INTO THAT'LL HOOK UP TO THE STEAM PORTS ON TOP OF THE HEADS.

NOW THIS IS WHAT'S CALLED A TWO PASS RADIATOR, WHICH MEANS THE COOLANT GOES ACROSS THE CORE TWICE BEFORE IT RETURNS TO THE ENGINE. THAT SHOULD HELP KEEP OUR VEIGHT GOOD AND COOL. NOW PRC CAN BUILD THESE RADIATORS IN A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES, AND THEY'LL ALSO ADD MOUNTING FLANGES. AND I HAD THEM ADD JUST THESE SMALL LITTLE ANGLE BRACES THAT WE CAN ATTACH TO THE JEEP'S GRILL SHELL. AND WHILE THEY'RE AT IT THEY OFFERED ME A FAN. AND SO I SAID, THROW A PUSHER FAN ON THE GRILL SIDE TO FLOW AIR ACROSS THE CORE. TO INSTALL OUR NEW RADIATOR THE GRILL SHELL

IS COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE CHASSIS AND

PLACED ON A BENCH. THE RADIATOR NEEDS TO BE CLEARANCED AROUND THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES. AFTER MARKING AND TRIMMING THE RADIATOR, IT FITS CLEANLY AGAINST THE GRILL SHELL.

THE MOUNTING LOCATIONS ARE MARKED AND DRILLED. THE RADIATOR IS BOLTED ONTO THE GRILL SHELL AND REINSTALLED INTO THE CHASSIS. THE HOSES ARE HOOKED BACK UP AND THE FAN'S WIRED SO THAT IT IS ENERGIZED AS SOON AS THE KEY IS TURNED ON, PERFECT! THE SYSTEM IS THEN REFILLED WITH COOLANT AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS.

(ANNOUNCER)>> UP NEXT, FROM DEEP MUD TO TALL ROCKS, OUR JEEP CAN HANDLE IT ALL.

(IAN)>> THIS THING IS POINT AND SHOOT!

(IAN)>> NOW YOU DIDN'T THINK I WAS GONNA BUILD A JEEP THIS COOL AND NOT WHEEL IT AT LEAST ONE TIME BEFORE I GIVE IT TO ONE OF YOU GUYS WHEN YOU WIN IT. THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO RIGHT NOW. IT'S A LITTLE COLD, BUT I MEAN, IT'S A DAY ON THE TRAIL. IT'S BETTER THAN A DAY IN THE SHOP. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT WHOEVER WINS THIS JEEP WILL HAVE THE ULTIMATE POINT AND SHOOT TRAIL RIG AT THEIR DISPOSAL. THE DANA 60 FRONT AND STERLING REAR AXLE ASSEMBLIES EASILY FLEX OVER THE ROCKS THANKS TO THE 14 INCH TRAVEL FOX SHOCKS AND CUSTOM FOUR LINK SUSPENSION FRONT AND REAR. THE PIT BULL ROCKERS ARE A GREAT OFF ROAD TIRE, DIGGING INTO THE DIRT WHEN NEEDED, BUT ALSO ABLE TO GRAB A HOLD OF THE ROCKS AND DRAG THIS BEAST UP THE TRAIL. COME ON, DIG YOUR WAY OUT, THERE YOU GO. WHAT'S CRAZY IS THAT IT'S WET, AND I MEAN, LIKE IT'S WET. IT'S BEEN RAINING FOR TWO WEEKS. BUT EVEN THOUGH IT'S THAT WET, WE'VE STILL GOT TRACTION IN HERE. THAT'S A COMBINATION OF A COUPLE OF THINGS, THE TIRES AND THE WHEEL BASE WORKS TO OUR FAVOR. HAVING THAT FRONT END STRETCHED OUT LIKE THAT LETS ME GET UP ON TOP OF STUFF AND THEN DRAG THE REST OF THE RIG UP WITH ME. HAVING A FIVE POINT THREE VEIGHT UNDER THE HOOD PROVIDES EXCELLENT LOW RPM TORQUE WHEN CRAWLING. BUT ALSO WHEN YOU NEED TO TURN THAT ENGINE ON AND

LET THIS RIG EAT, THE GIBSON EXHAUST JUST SOUNDS AMAZING.

OH, THIS JEEP JUST LOOKS FLAT OUT MEAN WITH THE STRETCHED OUT FRONT AXLE, MACHINED BLACK WRAP, AND ANGLED ROOF BARS OF THE CAGE, THERE'S NO QUESTION THAT THE WD 40 SPECIALIST OFF ROAD MACHINE IS A TRAIL MONSTER. I AM IMPRESSED WITH HOW WELL IT'S WORKING TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.

IT'S A REALLY GOOD WORKING JEEP. I MEAN IT HAD BETTER BE WITH THE AMOUNT OF WORK WE PUT INTO IT. BUT FOR OUR MAIDEN VOYAGE OUT LIKE THIS, THERE'S NOTHING REALLY JUMPING OUT THAT I'M

GONNA HAVE TO CHANGE.

TURBO 400 TRANSMISSION WITH REVERSE MANUAL VALVE BODY, AND THE ATLAS TWO FROM ADVANCE ADAPTERS GIVES THIS RIG MULTIPLE GEAR RATIO OPTIONS WHEN ON THE TRAIL. DEEP LOW RANGE FOR THOSE TIMES WHEN YOU NEED TO SIMPLY CRAWL TO HIGH RATIO TIRE SPINNING TRAIL EATING

WHEEL SPEED WHEN YOU NEED THIS THING TO HAUL. BEING ABLE TO LIGHT THIS THING WHEN I NEED TO, I

CAN JUST ROLL UP HERE, FRONT TIRE UP, AND THEN WE JUST DO THIS. THAT'S A LOT OF POWER RIGHT THERE. THAT WAS JUST A LITTLE BIT, I THINK THAT WAS LIKE 15 PERCENT THROTTLE. THE JEEP FEELS COMFORTABLE ON THE TRAIL.

MASTERCRAFT BUCKETS KEEP YOU PLANTED IN THE SEAT WHILE THE JEEP FLEXES EASILY OVER EVERY

OBSTACLE THAT IT SEES. SO IF YOU WANT TO BE THE ENVY OF YOUR OFF ROADING BUDDIES HEAD ON OVER TO WD 40 GIVEAWAY DOT COM AND ENTER TO WIN THIS RIG. DON'T WORRY, I'LL WASH IT BEFORE YOU WIN IT.
