(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY WE'RE STRAPPING OUR NEWLY NITROUS EQUIPPED 2006 GMC SIERRA TO THE DYNO TO SEE JUST HOW MUCH MORE POWER WE'RE MAKING.

(KEVIN)>> 356 HORSEPOWER AND 438 FOOT POUNDS AT THE WHEELS.

(ANNOUNCER)>> THEN WE'RE TAKING IT TO THE DRAG STRIP FOR A REAL WORLD TEST. IT'S ALL TODAY HERE ON TRUCKS.

(KEVIN)>> HEY WELCOME TO TRUCKS. WELL THE GOALS THAT WE SET FOR OUR '06 SIERRA HERE HAVE MOSTLY BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. WE MADE IT LOOK BETTER, WE MADE IT HANDLE BETTER, AND WE MADE IT GO FASTER. SO TODAY WE'RE GONNA TEST THE POWER AGAINST WHERE WE STARTED, WHICH IS BASICALLY AN OFF THE CAR LOT USED TRUCK.

(RYAN)>> NOW THE NITROUS INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE BUT WE HAVEN'T FILLED UP THE BOTTLE YET. SO WE'RE GONNA DO THAT AND WE'RE GONNA ADD A PRESSURE GAUGE SO WE CAN KEEP TABS ON THIS SYSTEM. THEN TO KEEP THE BOTTLE OUT OF SIGHT WE'RE GONNA ADD A TONNEAU COVER TO THE BED AND KINDA FINISH THIS TRUCK OFF. THEN WE'LL TAKE IT OVER TO THE HORSEPOWER SHOP, THROW IT ON THEIR DYNOJET CHASSIS DYNO, AND SEE WHAT KIND OF POWER IT MAKES. WE'LL TEST IT NATURALLY ASPIRATED AND ON THE BOTTLE, SEE WHAT KIND OF NUMBERS WE GET AT THE REAR WHEELS.

THEN WE CAN TAKE IT OUT ON THE STREET AND HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF FUN WITH IT.

WHO AM I KIDDING, WE'RE GONNA HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF FUN WITH IT, CAN'T WAIT.

(KEVIN)>> NOW ONE OF THE THINGS WE THOUGHT WOULD BE PRETTY COOL TO SHOW YOU GUYS IS HOW A NITROUS BOTTLE IS ACTUALLY FILLED. NOW WE'RE GONNA HAVE A GAUGE ON HERE, BUT THAT'S TO TELL THE PRESSURE, NOT THE VOLUME. AND THE WAY YOU TELL THAT A NITROUS BOTTLE IS

FULL IS BY ITS WEIGHT. SO THAT'S WHY WE DO THE SCALE.

NOW NOS MAKES IT PRETTY EASY FOR US BECAUSE THEY GIVE US THE WEIGHT OF THE GAS, THE WEIGHT OF THE EMPTY CYLINDER, AND THE WEIGHT OF THE GAS AND CYLINDER COMBINED, WHICH WE KNOW IS 24 POUNDS AND 12 OUNCES,

AND THE CYLINDER EMPTY WEIGHS 14 POUNDS.

SO WE KNOW IT'S A 10 POUND TANK. BUT BEFORE WE FILL ANYTHING UP, WE'RE

GONNA PURGE THE LINES. WE'RE PURGING THIS LINE FOR THE SAME REASON WE PURGE OUR WELDING TANKS.

JUST TO MAKE SURE THERE'S NO DEBRIS THAT GETS PUT

INTO THE TANK THAT COULD CLOG A JET. THEN YOU GENTLY EASE THE PRESSURE UNTIL YOU SEE SOME FROST. NOW WE KNOW IT'S PURGED. AND BY THE WAY, THE REASON I'M ISOLATING MY HAND WITH THIS RAG IS THE SAME REASON THAT THAT KIDS TONGUE GOT STUCK TO THE LIGHT POLE IN THAT CHRISTMAS MOVIE THAT EVERYBODY'S SEEN. I DON'T WANT MY FINGERS STICKING TO THESE FITTINGS. SO NOW WE'RE PURGED. NOW THIS IS AN AIR ASSIST PUMP. THE REASON THIS IS NECESSARY IS TO GIVE US A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA PRESSURE AND GET A COMPLETE FILL ONCE THE TWO NITROUS TANKS EQUALIZE.

BY THE WAY MAKE SURE YOUR BOTTLE IS OPEN.

NOW AS YOU CAN SEE, THE PRESSURE IS ON UP THERE. SO IT MAY BE A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK YOUR FITTINGS. NOW DON'T GET EXCITED BECAUSE THIS IS NOT GONNA HAPPEN QUICKLY. IT'S NOT LIKE FILLING UP A BALLOON.

IT'S A PRESSURIZED TANK AND IT KINDA TAKES ITS OWN TIME. IT TOOK JUST A FEW MINUTES FOR US TO GET FIVE POUNDS IN AND THEN THE PRESSURE EQUALIZED, AND WELL WE JUST

HAD FIVE POUNDS IN A 10 POUND TANK. ALRIGHT WE MANAGED TO GET FIVE POUNDS IN UNASSISTED BUT WE NEED FIVE MORE POUNDS. THIS IS WHERE THE PUMP COMES IN.

THE AIR ASSIST PUMP, WELL IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS WHAT IT DOES. IT INCREASES THE PRESSURE AND HELPS FILL THE NITROUS IN THE TANK. BUT DON'T JUST TURN IT ON AND WALK AWAY. YOU WANT TO CYCLE IT, EASE INTO IT, WATCH THE SCALE, EASE INTO IT AGAIN, KEEP WATCHING THE SCALE, AND SLOWLY INCREASE THE NITROUS LEVEL IN THE TANK. ONCE YOU'VE FILLED YOUR TANK UP TO THE CORRECT VOLUME, WELL CUT THE VALVE OFF AND THEN RELEASE THE LINE PRESSURE. NOW THIS IS JUST VENTING FROM THE LINE ITSELF. THE MAIN TANK IS SHUT OFF AND THIS IS NORMAL. IT JUST VENTS TO ATMOSPHERE.

NOW YOU DON'T WANT TO STICK YOUR TONGUE ON THIS PART EITHER, TRUST ME.

THE LAST STEP IS INSTALLING THE BOTTLE GAUGE, AND THEN

YOU'RE READY TO REINSTALL THE BOTTLE IN THE VEHICLE. WELL THAT'S IT, THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT TO IT, BUT THERE IS SOME TECHNIQUE AND SOME EQUIPMENT INVOLVED. SPEAKING OF EQUIPMENT, IT MIGHT BE A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT FOR YOU AND A COUPLE OF BUDDIES, IF YOU RACE A LOT, TO GO IN ON ONE OF THOSE AIR ASSIST PUMPS. IT MIGHT BUY YOU BACK SOME OF THAT FUEL THAT IT TAKES TO RUN BACK AND FORTH TO THE FILLING STATION.

(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO TRUCKS, WHERE WE'RE JUST ABOUT READY TO TAKE OUR SIERRA OVER TO THE HORSEPOWER SHOP AND PUT IT ON THE DYNO, AND THEN OUT ONTO THE ROAD AND TEST OUT OUR NEW NITROUS KIT.

BUT BEFORE WE DO THAT, AND LIKE WE TOLD YOU, WE WANT TO ADD A TONNEAU COVER TO KEEP THE BOTTLE OUT OF THE VIEW OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND OUT OF THE VIEW OF THE COP THAT JUST PULLED YOU OVER FOR HORSING AROUND. NOW THE THEME WITH THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN TO PICK AFFORDABLE BUT EFFECTIVE MODIFICATIONS THAT

DON'T COST A TON. SO WHEN SHOPPING FOR A TONNEAU COVER, WELL WE WANTED SOMETHING THAT WAS FAIRLY PRICED BUT STILL A GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT. SO WE WENT TO SUMMIT RACING AND PICKED UP THIS BLACK

SOFT ROLL UP TONNEAU.

(KEVIN)>> NOW THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE SPEED THE FILM UP SO WE CAN SHOW YOU EVERY STEP AND IT JUST TAKES LONGER. NOT WITH THIS, WE'RE SHOWING YOU IN ALMOST REAL TIME

BECAUSE THIS INSTALLATION HAPPENED SO FAST, IT'S REALLY QUITE EASY. THIS COVER HAS THE TYPICAL SIDE RAIL APPLICATION THAT JUST CLAMPS INTO PLACE ON THE BED SIDES MUCH LIKE A CAMPER SHELL DOES WITH THE ALUMINUM CLAMPS.

(RYAN)>> ALRIGHT, THAT'S GOOD.

(KEVIN)>> ALRIGHT, THAT'S IN. FOR NOW WE'RE JUST LOOSELY SNUGGING THE CLAMPS INTO PLACE. THE REASON YOU WANT TO DO THAT IS TO MOCK IT UP AND MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS SQUARE AND NOTHING BINDS WITH THE TAIL GAGE. THE VINYL ACTUALLY SHRINKS OVER TIME AND OUT IN THE SUN IT WILL CERTAINLY DO THAT. SO YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE IT FITS GOOD AND EVENLY RIGHT AWAY.

THE BACK IS HELD INTO PLACE WITH A FLIP FLOP. THE SIDES WITH HOOK AND HOLD FASTENER, MORE COMMONLY KNOWN AS VELCRO. YOU CAN PULL THE TENSION OUT AT THE SIDES EASILY, BUT YOU STILL WANT TO MAKE SURE IT'S EVEN ON BOTH SIDES.

(RYAN)>>YOUR WAY A LITTLE BIT? I'M FLUSH WITH THE INSIDE EDGE.

(KEVIN)>> ARE WE LINED UP WITH THE TAIL GATE UP?

(RYAN)>> OH YEAH, DETAILS.

(KEVIN)>> BEFORE WE LOCK IT DOWN FOR GOOD WE WANT TO DO

ONE FINAL TEST FIT WITH THE TAIL GATE UP JUST TO MAKE SURE THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE ANY MOISTURE THAT CAN GET INTO THE BED. YEP, IT'S GOT A NICE FIT.

(RYAN)>> YEP, THAT LOOKS GOOD. I LIKE THE RED AND BLACK TOO, COOL.

ALRIGHT, YEAH, LETS SNUG THIS THING DOWN, CALL IT DONE.

(KEVIN)>> A COOL LOOK IS NOT THE ONLY REASON TO PUT ON A TONNEAU COVER. ALTHOUGH WE NEVER MEASURED IT, THESE MANUFACTURERS ACTUALLY CLAIM AN INCREASE IN FUEL ECONOMY DUE TO A DECREASE IN TURBULENCE IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AND LESS DRAG.

(RYAN)>> NEEDS TO PARK OUT IN THE HEAT FOR A WHILE, UNDER THE SUN FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

(KEVIN)>> STRETCH IT LIKE JOAN RIVERS.

(RYAN)>> NICE, COOL!

(KEVIN)>> HEY, WELCOME BACK. WELL WE'VE GOT THE '06 SIERRA STRAPPED TO THE DYNO IN THE HORSEPOWER SHOP AND WE'RE GONNA TEST OUT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF NITROUS IN THE NOS KIT, SEE IF IT MATCHES THE ADVERTISED POWER,

KEEP THOSE GUYS HONEST. [ engine revving ]

(KEVIN)>> NOW FOR THIS TEST WE DECIDED TO DO A TWO RUN AVERAGE JUST TO MAKE SURE WE CAN GET

REPEATABLE RESULTS. NOW WITH STOCK POWER LEVELS, WITH THE HELP OF A SET OF HEADERS AND A HIGH FLOW EXHAUST, WE AVERAGED 250 HORSEPOWER AND 296 FOOT POUNDS ON THE STOCK EQUIPMENT, AND THAT'S NOT TOO BAD FOR A BONE STOCK PICK UP TRUCK ON 20 INCH WHEELS NO DOUBT. BUT THEN AGAIN, IT IS AN LS.

(RYAN)>> COOL, LETS TURN ON THE BOTTLE, SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

(KEVIN)>> THROW SOME NOS, WHOO, HOO.

(RYAN)>> HE SAID NOS!

(KEVIN)>> THAT'S SO WRONG.

(RYAN)>> TIME TO TURN THIS BOTTLE ON, THE FUN WAY.

(KEVIN)>> NOW KEEP IN MIND, BEFORE WE STARTED DOING ANY

OF THIS WE VERIFIED TIRE PRESSURE, THAT WE HAD A FULL TANK OF GAS, AND THE ENGINE AND ALL THE DRIVETRAIN WERE IN SHIP SHAPE.

WE STARTED OUT WITH A 75 SHOT, WHICH IS A PREDETERMINED PAIR OF JETS, ONE FOR THE NITROUS AND ONE FOR THE EXTRA FUEL SINCE THIS IS A WET KIT.

AGAIN USING OUR TWO RUN AVERAGE ON HORSEPOWER'S DYNOJET WE ENDED UP WITH A POWER LEVELS OF 310 HORSE, 377 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE, GIVING US AN EXTRA 60 HORSE, WHICH BY THE TIME YOU FACTOR IN PARASITIC DRAG FROM THE DRIVETRAIN, IT'S RIGHT IN LINE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S CLAIM. SO IT ACTUALLY IS HONEST.

NOW MOVING UP TO THE 100 SHOT, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE WERE KEEPING AN EYE ON THINGS AND STAYING SAFE.

(RYAN)>> YOU WATCHING THE AIR/FUEL RATIO?

ALRIGHT, READY?

(KEVIN)>> THE 100 HORSEPOWER JET SET TOOK ABOUT FIVE MINUTES TO CHANGE, WHICH GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO LET THE TRUCK COOL DOWN AND MAKE SURE WE WEREN'T DOING BACK TO BACK TO BACK RUNS AND RISKING HEAT SOAK.

(KEVIN)>> OUR TWO RUN AVERAGE GAVE US INCREASED POWER LEVELS OF 342 HORSEPOWER AND 416 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE, AN INCREASE OF 92 HORSEPOWER, WHICH IS AGAIN RIGHT IN LINE WITH NOS' CLAIMS OF 100 HORSE INCREASE. WHILE AT THE SAME TIME HAVING A VERY SAFE AIR/FUEL RATIO RIGHT UP TO THE TOP RPM PEAK.

(RYAN)>> ALL GOOD?

(KEVIN)>> WITH ALL THE RUNS TODAY THERE HAVE BEEN NO ISSUES OR WARNING FLAGS. SO WITH THE 150 HORSE SET OF JETS INSTALLED WE DECIDED TO

GO FOR SOME HERO NUMBERS.

I WOULD CALL THAT A SUCCESS. 356 HORSEPOWER AND 438 FOOT POUNDS AT THE WHEELS. OUR SECOND RUN CAME IN A LITTLE HOTTER AT 357 HORSEPOWER, NETTING US A 107 HORSEPOWER GAIN OVER STOCK. SO OUR TWO RUNS GAVE US AN AVERAGE OF OVER 357 HORSE

AND 442 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE. SO WITH THAT INFORMATION IN HAND WE NEEDED A REAL WORLD TEST. SO WE PACKED UP AND HEADED FOR THE TRACK.

(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO MUSIC CITY RACEWAY JUST OUTSIDE OF NASHVILLE. ( )>> RYAN, TELL US WHAT THIS IS.

(RYAN)>> NOW THE GUYS AT MUSIC CITY WERE NICE ENOUGH TO LET US USE THE TRACK FOR A LITTLE TEST SESSION FOR OUR NITROUS EQUIPPED SIERRA. LAID A LITTLE RUBBER, OUR BASELINE RUNS WERE WITHOUT THE BOTTLE. WE JUST HAD THE COLD AIR INTAKE, EXHAUST, AND HEADERS. FEELS PRETTY STRONG. OUR UNOFFICIAL STOP WATCH TIME OF 10.30 WASN'T BAD BUT WE WANTED TO MAKE A COUPLE MORE PASSES TO GET AN AVERAGE. LIT UP THE TIRES A LITTLE BIT. NOW THE BREATHING IMPROVEMENTS WE'VE MADE TO THE ENGINE REALLY SHOW. THIS LITTLE FIVETHREE PULLED STRONG ON THE TOP END POSTING AN UNOFFICIAL 10.37 ON THE SECOND RUN. THAT'S 74, 75 THROUGH THE TRAP.

(KEVIN)>> AND HERE WE GO.

(RYAN)>> ABOVE 4,000 THIS THING PULLS PRETTY STRONG. YOU TELL THOSE HEADERS ARE REALLY DOING THEIR JOB. THIS RUN WE PICKED UP A LITTLE BIT WITH A 10.20 GIVING US A THREE RUN AVERAGE OF 10.29, NOT TOO BAD. SAME THING, 74, 75 MILES AN HOUR, THAT'S PRETTY CONSISTENT. 75 SHOT, FIRST RUN! AND JUST LIKE ON THE DYNO, WE THOUGHT WE'D START WITH THE SMALLEST NITROUS JETS.

THERE'S THAT NITROUS. NOW IF YOU'VE NEVER DRIVEN A VEHICLE WITH NITROUS, IT'S PRETTY AWESOME AND READILY APPARENT WHEN IT KICKS IN. IT'S LIKE HITTING A PASSING GEAR THAT WASN'T THERE BEFORE. WELL THAT WAS ABOUT 79 OR 80 MILES AN HOUR THROUGH THE TRAPS. SO WE ALREADY PICKED UP AT LEAST FIVE, MAYBE SIX MILES AN HOUR. A LITTLE WHEEL SPIN, GOT NITROUS SPRAYING, GOOD, GOOD, GOOD! OUR SECOND RUN WAS A LITTLE BIT QUICKER WITH A 9.83. ANOTHER 79 AND 80 THROUGH THE TRAPS, THIS THING'S CONSISTENT. RUN NUMBER THREE ON A 75 SHOT. RED LIGHT, SPIN!

AND AFTER OUR THIRD PASS, WELL WE CAME UP WITH AN AVERAGE OF 9.85 ON THE 75 SHOT. IT'S TIME FOR SOME BIGGER JETS. 125 SHOT BABY! THAT LAUNCHED BETTER. THERE'S THAT 125 SHOT, THAT WAS STRONGER. STRONG ENOUGH TO KNOCK SEVENTENTHS OF A SECOND OFF OF OUR EIGHTH MILE ET. 80 PLUS THROUGH THE TRAP, 125 SHOT. WE WERE AT MUSIC CITY DURING THE OFF SEASON ON AN UNPREPPED TRACK. TOO MUCH WHEEL SPIN, AND OUR TRUCK WASN'T PREPPED EITHER. WE WERE RUNNING STREET AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES AND DIDN'T MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS.

WE WERE JUST UP THERE FOR A QUICK TEST, AND OUR SECOND RUN GAVE US A TIME OF 9.63. ALRIGHT, LAST RUN ON THE 125 SHOT, HOPE SHE HOLDS TOGETHER.

DECENT LAUNCH, NITROUS ON, THE BOTTLE WAS THROWING TONS OF EXTRA TORQUE AT THIS THING, A LITTLE MORE TORQUE

THAN THE TRANSMISSION APPRECIATED AND AFTER SENSING A LITTLE SLIP IN SECOND GEAR I GOT OUT OF IT. I DON'T THINK THIS TRANSMISSION LIKES THAT EXTRA POWER. I LIFTED, LETS WRAP THIS THING UP AND GET HOME.

(KEVIN)>> WELL IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO HEAD TO THE DRAG STRIP AND TEST OUT AN UPGRADE, BUT THE 125 SHOT SHOWED US THAT WE'VE EXCEEDED THE CAPACITY OF THE FACTORY TRANSMISSION BY ALMOST 90 FOOT POUNDS. SO IF WE WANT TO PLAY THAT HARD, IT'S GONNA MEAN DOING SOME KIND OF AN IMPROVEMENT ON THE TRANSMISSION, POSSIBLY A SHIFT IMPROVEMENT KIT, BUT THAT'S A WHOLE OTHER SHOW. WATER INJECTION HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 1930'S WHEN THEY WOULD CHEMICALLY INTERCOOL SUPERCHARGED AIRCRAFT ENGINES FOR INCREASED PERFORMANCE. WELL SNOW PERFORMANCE HAS PERFECTED THESE SYSTEMS FOR GAS AND DIESEL AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS. THE BOOST COOLER SYSTEM BOOSTS OCTANE WHILE LOWERING INTAKE TEMPERATURES, WHICH IS SAFER FOR THE ENGINE WHILE MAKING MORE POWER. SNOW PERFORMANCE ALLOWS YOU TO RUN A RACE GAS TUNE ON PUMP GAS, OR EVEN TUNE FOR BETTER FUEL ECONOMY, AND KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING WITH A HEADS UP DISPLAY. AND WITH THE COST OF TODAY'S FUEL, WELL THIS SYSTEM MAKES EVEN MORE SENSE.

SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO PAY ATTENTION AND LOOK FOR ONE OF THESE COMING UP ON A TRUCKS PROJECT.

SPEAKING OF TRUCKS PROJECT, THIS IS PERFECT FOR OUR LS SWAP INTO THE '71 C-10.

THIS IS NEW FROM EDELBROCK AND IT'S A TWO PIECE TIMING COVER FOR LS ENGINES. THE REMOVABLE WINDOW PLATE ALLOWS FOR EASY ACCESS AND FASTER CAM SWAPS. IT UTILIZES AN ORING SEAL FOR REPEATABILITY AND A LEAK FREE INSTALLATION. THERE'S AN ALIGNMENT MARK CAST INTO THE BOTTOM PART OF THE COVER FOR EASY REALIGNMENT, AND IT MAKES CAM SWAPS ON THE FLY A SNAP WITHOUT DISASSEMBLING THE WHOLE TIMING COVER. NOW IF YOU'RE THE ONE DOING THE WORK, WELL THIS SYSTEM WILL OBVIOUSLY SAVE YOU TIME, BUT IF YOU'RE WRITING A CHECK FOR SOMEBODY ELSE TO DO THE LABOR ON A CAM SWAP, WELL THIS IS GOING TO SAVE YOU MONEY. HERE'S SOMETHING ELSE THAT'S PRETTY COOL. CHECK OUT THESE TRANSMISSION LINE KITS FROM JIFFY TITE. THESE LINES ATTACH ON ONE END WITH NPT THREADS AND ON THE OTHER WITH THE QUICK COUPLER THAT WON'T LEAK EVEN WHEN DISCONNECTED, MAKING DISASSEMBLY OR REMOVAL A SNAP. JIFFY TITE HAS A TRANSMISSION LINE KIT FOR VIRTUALLY EVERY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AS WELL

AS THE FULL CATALOG OF QUICK COUPLERS AND FITTING SOLUTIONS.

SO WHETHER YOU'RE HARDCORE RACE, OFF ROAD, AUTO CROSS, OR HIGH PERFORMANCE STREET, JIFFY TITE HAS GOT SOME GREAT FITTING SOLUTIONS FOR YOU. BY THE WAY, THEY ARE IN 18 DIFFERENT AUTOMOTIVE AND INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURERS WORLDWIDE WITH OVER 300 MILLION DEVICES STILL IN SERVICE. THAT'S NOT A BAD TRACK RECORD, AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY'RE MADE RIGHT HERE IN THE USA. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT JIFFY TITE OR ANYTHING

YOU'VE SEEN ON TODAY'S SHOW, LOG ON TO POWERBLOCK TV DOT COM, CHECK, US OUT, SEE YOU NEXT TIME.
