The Texas-Built Toyota Tundra Was Awarded the Title “Truck of Texas”

For the second year in a row, the Toyota Tundra was awarded the title “Truck of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at their annual Texas Truck Rodeo event. This marks the second time the truck received this award in the three years of this event.

Toyota was a big contender at this year’s event, taking home several accolades. In addition to the Toyota Tundra, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander came in first place for the Full-Size SUV category, Toyota Audio Multimedia received a Feature Award, and the Toyota i-Force MAX Turbocharged Hybrid received the award for Best Powertrain.

2024 Toyota Tundra Features

Constructed at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, Inc (TMMTX), the Toyota Tundra is built upon a fully boxed chassis with a multilink rear suspension, a max tow of 12,000 pounds, and a max payload of 1,940 pounds. The 2024 models is also available in two new i-Force powertrains: the i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 engine and available i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid.

What is most interesting about the hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain is that it is the most powerful Tundra powertrain to date, producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Power aside, the 2024 Toyota Tundra comes equipped with a long list of special features to fit every kind of lifestyle. Off-roaders can appreciate the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS), Crawl Control (CRAWL) and selectable rear locker. Meanwhile, the more tech-focused drivers will be satisfied with the all-new multimedia system that offers a user-friendly experience with new voice-activated technology or via the massive 14-inch touchscreen.

Other features included on this truck are multiple sensors and cameras located throughout its body, driver assistance technology used to connect trailers, and Straight Path Assist to line up the truck with the hitch while in reverse. There is also the panoramic moonroof, tailored cabin, power vertical rear window, and the driver’s 12.3-inch digital instrument panel.

Award Criteria

37 journalists were gathered at the 2023 Texas Truck Rodeo to evaluate the latest pickup trucks and SUVs from major automakers at the off-road course at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, TX. Every vehicle was examined on its interior, exterior, value, performance, and personal appeal.
