Ford F-150 Thunder Can Power Your Home Up To Three Days

These days vehicles come in handy when charging your phone and other small devices. But in the event of a power outage, they probably don’t have the technological fortitude to keep the lights on in an average home.

Ford, on the other hand, begs to disagree, claiming its fully-electric F-150 Lightning is capable of providing an average U.S. home with enough power to last three days.

In partnership with solar company Sunrun, Ford aims to take full advantage of the truck’s battery capacity by providing energy to homes via solar power. As a result, the electric truck serves as an alternative option to store energy in the event of a power outage.

In order for F-150 Lightning owners to use the truck as a backup power source, they would need to install a Ford Charge Station Pro & Home Integration System to connect and charge the truck from their household.

The average U.S. home uses 30 kWh a day. According to Ford, the F-150 Lightning with an extended-range battery can store enough power for up to three days. Factor in solar power and rationing, it is estimated that the truck could power a home for up to 10 days.
