Florida Man Crashed The Lamborghini He Bought With $3.9 Million In Stolen Virus Relief Funds

David Tyler Hines not only allegedly used PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) loans to purchase a 2020 Lamborghini Huracán Evo, he then proceeded to wreck it almost immediately.

It’s reported that Hines fraudulently accepted $3.9 million from the U.S. government’s Paycheck Protection Program. The program is meant to support businesses that were struggling to pay employees during the current COVID-19 quarantine.

Hines initially applied for approximately $13.5 million in funds claiming they were intended to pay employees of his South Florida moving company. It turns out that US postal inspectors said those employees either didn’t exist at all or earned a small portion of what Hines claimed. Even still, Hines was approved for almost $4 million in three forgivable, low-interest PPP loans.

With no employees or very few to pay, Hines took the millions and spent it on personal expenses including clothes, jewelry, dating websites, and a 2020 Lamborghini Huracán Evo, which ran him more than $318,000.

The U.S. Department of Justice released a statement saying Hines has been charged with “one count of bank fraud, one count of making false statements to a financial institution and one count of engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds.”

Turns out, the Lamborghini is what busted him. Investigators were flagged by a hit and run crash involving a brand new Lamborghini Huracan. Investigators then traced the car back to Hines and took a look into his financial and payment history where they discovered no payroll payments as reported in the loan application. They proceeded to arrest him and he is now under GPS-tracked house arrest at his mother’s until his arraignment in October.
