Engine Fires Prompt Ram to Recall 340,000 Heavy Duty Pickup Trucks; Urges Owners to Park Outside

Overheating engines is a fairly common issue many car and truck owners deal with. However, Ram is issuing a recall on over 340,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks due to reports of potential fire hazards regarding their engines.

Specifically, 2021-2023 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, as well as the Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cab models, are equipped with an outdated heater-grid electrical connector that could potentially cause a fire. According to the Associated Press, Ram received reports of six fires they believe were related to this connector. In one particular case, the owner stated that the truck had caught fire even after the vehicle was turned off. According to CNBC, Stellantis is recommending owners of these diesel trucks to park their vehicles outside for the time being.

A similar 2021 recall urged owners to temporarily keep their vehicles parked outside of their homes and buildings, and away from other vehicles until the automaker resolved the issue.

All trucks affected by this recall are equipped with Ram’s 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine.
