Apple Confirms Upcoming Formula 1 Film with Brad Pitt and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Director

Ever since Netflix debuted the Formula 1 docuseries F1: Drive to Survive, interest in the international racing league has boomed and Hollywood is primed to steer into its popularity.

According to a report by Deadline Hollywood, Apple Studios has acquired the rights to an untitled Formula 1 project with Brad Pit as the lead and Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) to direct.

Pitt will reportedly portray a former F1 driver brought out of retirement to coach a rookie, which some believe could mirror the tale of Michael Schumacher’s road to F1, along with a younger Nico Rosberg.

The film has recruited many other key Top Gun: Maverick staffers, including writer Ehren Kruger, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. It is also rumored that seven-time F1 champion Sir Lewis Hamilton may also be on board in some capacity.

This film is expected to have a budget of $130-$140 million, triple that of the 2013 F1 film Rush, and $30 million more than 2019’s Ford v Ferrari.
