(NARRATOR)>> TODAY WE'RE HEADING OUT FOR A DRIVEWAY RESCUE. ELIZA AND JEREMY ARE HELPING A RETIRED MARINE GET HIS JEEP COMANCHE BACK ON TRACK. THEN WE'RE BACK IN THE SHOP MOUNTING OUR BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE PEDAL IN OUR PRERUNNER RANGER. IT'S ALL RIGHT HERE ON XOR.
(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO XOR. NOW AS YOU CAN SEE WE'RE NOT IN THE SHOP TODAY BECAUSE WE'RE HEADING OUT TO A VIEWERS HOUSE.
(ELIZA)>> THAT'S RIGHT! WE CALL THIS DRIVEWAY RESCUE, AND WE ARE IN A NISSAN NV VAN THAT'S FILLED TO THE TOP WITH TOOLS AND PARTS TO GET THE JOB DONE.
(JEREMY)>> AND WE'RE HEADING DOWN SOUTH TO RICK'S HOUSE. NOW RICK IS A RETIRED UNITED STATES MARINE CORP VETERAN, AND HE GOT A HOLD OF US CAUSE HE WANTED US TO HELP HIM OUT WITH HIS JEEP COMANCHE.
WELL THERE IT ALL IS. WELL WE CALLED UP OUR BUDDIES AT ROCK AUTO AND GOT EVERYTHING WE NEEDED FOR RICK'S JEEP. NOW ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS FIND RICK.
(ELIZA)>> OUR BUDDY RICK PROUDLY SERVED OUR COUNTRY BUT HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE LINE OF DUTY. AFTER MULTIPLE SURGERIES HE RETIRED FROM THE SERVICE AND NOW LIVES IN LINDON, TENNESSEE, WHERE HE HAS A WOOD WORKING SHOP FOR MAKING CUSTOM CEDAR FURNITURE.
(JEREMY)>> BEFORE HE WAS WOUNDED HIS JEEP COMANCHE USED TO BE HOW HE HAULED ALL THE TREES HE CUT BACK TO HIS SHOP.
(RICK)>> MAN I WISH MY TRUCK WAS RUNNING.
(ELIZA)>> RICK SAYS THAT NOW HIS TIME IN THE SHOP HELPS WITH THE HEALING PROCESS.
(RICK)>> FOR ME IT'S JUST MORE THERAPEUTIC FOR ME. BETWEEN HAVING PTSD, TWO MAJOR SURGERIES ON MY HEAD, IT'S BEEN LIKE A GOD SEND. I'M PROBABLY THE HAPPIEST I'VE EVER BEEN EXCEPT FOR MAYBE WHEN I WAS FIVE OR SIX YEARS OLD PLAYING WITH MATCHBOX CARS IN THE DIRT. NOW I GET TO PLAY WITH A 1988 JEEP COMANCHE FOUR BY FOUR.
(JEREMY)>> THIS INLINE SIX POWERED FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VERSION OF THE COMANCHE WAS ACTUALLY BOUGHT BY RICK'S DAD AS A FATHER SON PROJECT AND MEANS A LOT TO RICK.
(ELIZA)>> SO WE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR TRUCK TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT.
(RICK)>> WELL THE STEERING IS JUST ATROCIOUS. OUT HERE IN THE WOODS WE DON'T HAVE WIDE STREETS LIKE THE CITY PEOPLE DO. WE'VE ONLY GOT ONE LANE AND SOME TIMES YOU HAVE TO STEER AROUND PEOPLE AND SOMETIMES IT'S REALLY TOUGH. I MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU'RE GONNA WIND UP IN THE DITCH, OR IF YOU'RE GONNA BE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I MEAN IT'S JUST ALL OVER THE PLACE.
(ELIZA)>> OH MAN, THAT'S A PROBLEM.
(RICK)>> IT'S TERRIBLE.
(JEREMY)>> AND AS FAR AS STEERING GOES, I MEAN ONCE YOU GET AROUND THEM YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO TRY TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. YOU SAID YOU HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES?
(RICK)>> YEAH THE BRAKES ARE PRETTY BAD. WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS I'VE GOT WITH STEERING. IF YOU LOOK, WHEN WE GO AROUND AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE TRUCK, YOU'RE GONNA SEE THE BUMPERS. THERE'S REASONS WHY THE BUMPERS ARE DENTED. CAUSE THE BRAKES ARE JUST, THEY'RE CRAP.
(ELIZA)>> ALL RIGHT, WELL WE'RE GONNA GET YOU BACK TO HAULING WOOD AND WE'VE GOT ENOUGH PARTS TO DO THAT. LET'S GET STARTED.
(JEREMY)>> ALL RIGHT, LET'S DO IT.
(ELIZA)>> FIRST UP IS REMOVING THE OLD TIE ROD AND DRAG LINK.
(JEREMY)>> GOT IT.
(ELIZA)>> LOOKS LIKE YOU NEED SOME OF THESE.
(JEREMY)>> OH, THANKS!
YOUR BRAKE TIME. THAT ACTUALLY CAME OFF.
ONE OF RICK'S DUTIES IN THE MARINE CORP WAS BEING IN CHARGE OF THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CORPS M-60-AONE TANKS. SO WE PUT HIS MECHANICAL SKILLS TO WORK ON HIS OWN MUCH LESS INTIMIDATING COMANCHE.
OH, LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE GONNA NEED THOSE NOW.
(ELIZA)>> I THINK I NEED MORE THAN THAT. THIS IS A GOOD START. AND RICK WAS RIGHT. HIS BUMPER WAS SLIGHTLY USED BUT HIGHLY ABUSED AND HAD TO GO.
(JEREMY)>> ANOTHER THING TO GO ON THE "TO GO" LIST WERE THE ALSO HIGHLY ABUSED BALL JOINTS.
NOW ALL OF THESE PARTS SHOULD DEFINITELY TIGHTEN UP HIS STEERING. WE'VE GOT TIE ROD ENDS AND THE CENTER SECTION. WE'VE GOT THE DRAG LINK AND ITS END, UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS, AND THE STEERING STABILIZER.
(ELIZA)>> OUR FIRST ROCK AUTO BOX WE TORE INTO CONTAINED A NEW SET OF BALL JOINTS.
(JEREMY)>> WITHOUT A BALL JOINT PRESS PUTTING THESE IN IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. LUCKILY YOU CAN RENT THE PRESS AT JUST ABOUT ANY AUTO PARTS STORE.
(ELIZA)>> I THINK ITS PRETTY MUCH SEATED, PERFECT.
(JEREMY)>> AND ONE MORE THING TO CHECK IN YOUR STEERING IS THE UJOINTS IN YOUR AXLE SHAFT. NOW THIS ONE'S ACTUALLY COMPLETELY SEIZED UP IN ONE DIRECTION, AND THAT'S GONNA ACTUALLY PULL YOUR WHEEL EITHER OUT OF YOUR HANDS OR MAKE IT SO YOU CAN'T TURN AT ALL. SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THESE.
(ELIZA)>> AFTER CLEANING THE SPINDLE IT GOES ON, FOLLOWED BY REINSTALLING THE AXLE SHAFT...
...FOLLOWED BY THE DUST SHIELD AND THE WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY.
(JEREMY)>> AND ALL THAT'S LEFT TO DO IS INSTALL THE AXLE NUT AND TORQUE IT DOWN.
THEN IT'S A NEW ROTOR, AND A NEW CALIPER LOADED WITH NEW PADS.
(NARRATOR)>> UP NEXT, WE'LL GET RICK'S COMANCHE BACK OUT ON THE TRAIL, AND LATER WE'LL GET OUR BRAKE PEDAL RELOCATED ON OUR PRERUNNER RANGER.
(JEREMY)>> HEY EVERYBODY, WELCOME BACK TO XOR. WE'RE OUT ON A DRIVEWAY RESCUE OF RICK'S JEEP COMANCHE AND WE'VE MOVED TO THE REAR BRAKES, AND THAT ALL STARTS WITH THE WHEEL CYLINDERS.
AND IT'S IMPORTANT TO CLEAN THE BACKING PLATE SO THEY'RE FREE OF ANY BRAKE DUST, AND APPLY A LITTLE BIT OF CALIPER GREASE SO THE SHOES CAN SLIDE.
ALWAYS THE TRICKY PART. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU'RE WORKING IN THE DRIVEWAY YOU HAVE TO IMPROVISE. WE DIDN'T HAVE THE RIGHT SPRING HOLD DOWN TOOL. SO A PAIR OF PLIERS WORKED JUST FINE, AND HERE'S A TIP. WHEN YOU'RE WORKING ON YOUR DRUM BRAKES TAKE A PICTURE. THAT WAY IF YOU FORGET YOU CAN JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURE AND PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER. THIS IS SO THEY DON'T HAVE A CHANCE TO SLIP OFF. PUT THE ADJUSTOR IN. HOOK THE CABLE BACK UP. AND IF EVERYBODY WORKS RIGHT SHOULD BE ABLE TO RATCHET IT LIKE THAT.
THE VERY LAST THING I DO BEFORE I PUT THE DRUM ON IS ROCK EVERYBODY BACK AND FORTH. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING SEEMS LIKE IT'S SEATED RIGHT. THEN PUT THE DRUM ON. PUT THIS ON. YOU WANT TO HEAR JUST A LITTLE BIT OF DRAG. PERFECT!
(ELIZA)>> WHEN REPLACING YOUR INNER AND OUTER TIE ROD IT'S USUALLY BEST JUST TO GET THE TIE ROD BAR ITSELF. IT'S NOT VERY EXPENSIVE AND IT'LL SAVE YOU A WHOLE LOT OF TIME, AND TIME IS MONEY. SAME THING GOES FOR YOUR DRAG LINK BAR. REMEMBER TO MAKE SURE TO LEAVE BOTH THAT COME OUT OF THE VEHICLE AS IS SO THAT WAY YOU CAN MOCK UP THE NEW ONES AND THEY GO RIGHT BACK ON TO YOUR VEHICLE. FIRST UP FOR THE DRAG LINK...
...FOLLOWED BY THE TIE ROD BAR.
AND MAKE SURE TO GET THE ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE CLAMPS TIGHT. ALL RIGHT, THAT'S TIGHT.
(JEREMY)>> LET'S WEASEL THIS GUY IN HERE.
(ELIZA)>> LAST PIECE OF THIS REBUILD IS A NEW STEERING STABILIZER SHOCK.
WE THOUGHT WE'D ADD A LITTLE UPGRADE TO RICK'S NEW BUMPER WITH SOME LED LIGHTING.
(JEREMY)>> THAT SHOULD HELP HIM SEE. ONE NEW BUMPER!
(ELIZA)>> ONE NEW BUMPER COMING UP. OOH, THAT LOOKS GOOD! NOW BEFORE WE CHECK EVERYTHING OUT WE'LL BLEED THE BRAKES AND ADD NEW PRESTONE DOT FOUR BRAKE FLUID.
[ drill spinning ]
(ELIZA)>> ALL RIGHT, LET'S SEE IF SHE WORKS.
(RICK)>> ALL RIGHT!
(ELIZA)>> GIVE HER A WHIRL.
THERE IT IS. ALL RIGHT, BRAKE, BRAKE FOR US. SEE WHAT WE'VE GOT, BEAUTIFUL. STOPS ON A DIME.
LET'S TAKE HER OFF THE JACKS AND GO GIVE HER A WHIRL.
WELL RICK I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE FOR US AND THE COUNTRY. I JUST HOPE THE LITTLE BIT THAT WE DID TO YOUR JEEP WAS A THANK YOU.
(RICK)>> THIS IS GREAT. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I'M GONNA ENJOY THIS FOR A LONG TIME.
(ELIZA)>> I'M GLAD.
(JEREMY)>> THERE'S ONLY ONE THING LEFT TO DO.
(RICK)>> WHAT'S THAT?
(JEREMY)>> LET'S GO FILL IT UP WITH WOOD.
(RICK)>> HECK YEAH, LET'S GO.
(JEREMY)>> NOW THAT WE DID ALL THE WORK NOW WE'VE GOT TO HELP HIM LOAD WOOD IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. SO WORK'S STILL NOT OVER.
(ELIZA)>> WE'RE STILL NOT DONE YET.
(JEREMY)>> BUT AT LEAST WE CAN HELP.
THAT THING'S A LITTLE ROCK CRAWLER TOO.
(ELIZA)>> A LITTLE GOAT. NOW YOU GUYS SAW JEREMY AND I INSTALL A MAGNAFLOW EXHAUST IN THE SCOUT. WE WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO SHOW YOU WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS MAGNAFLOW OFFERS. THIS IS THEIR SIX INCH ROUND STAINLESS STEEL MUFFLER THAT HAS TWO AND A HALF IN AND TWO AND A HALF OUT WITH AN UNRESTRICTED HIGH FLOW DESIGN. IT HAS A STAINLESS STEEL MESH INSIDE WITH ACOUSTICAL FIBER TO DELIVER THE DEEP TONE THAT WE HAVE ALL COME TO LOVE. MAGNAFLOW ALSO OFFERS THEIR STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST BAND CLAMPS. COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL UCLAMPS AND FLAT BAND CLAMPS THESE HIGH TORQUE CLAMPS OFFER A MUCH TIGHTER SEAL BY USING A REACTION BLOCK THAT TRANSFERS OLD TORQUE INTO CLAMP STRENGTH, ENSURING A TIGHT SEAL ALL THE WAY ROUND, AND LIKE MOST MAGNAFLOW PRODUCTS, THESE ARE BACKED BY A LIFETIME WARRANTY.
(NARRATOR)>> WHEN WE COME BACK IT'S A BETTER BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FOR OUR PRERUNNER RANGER, STAY TUNED!
(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO XOR. NOW TODAY WE'RE BACK ON THE PRERUNNER RANGER, AND SINCE WE GOT RID OF THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND SHOVED THIS BIG COYOTE INTO PLACE IT TAKES UP A WHOLE LOT MORE ROOM. SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO MOVE A COUPLE OF THINGS, AND ONE OF THOSE IS THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. NOW WE'RE GONNA USE GOOD OLE FASHIONED CARDBOARD TO MAKE A TEMPLATE TO COVER UP THE STOCK HOLE AND TO HELP RELOCATE THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER. WITH OUR PIECE OF 16 GAUGE SHEET METAL THAT WE CUT FROM OUR TEMPLATE IN PLACE WE'VE GOT TO MARK THE HOLES TO MOUNT IT TO THE FIREWALL AND MARK THE CENTER FOR THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER.
WITH THE CENTER HOLE CUT OUT FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER, WE'LL GO OVER TO THE EDWARDS IRON WORKER AND PUNCH OUT THE REST OF THE BOLT HOLES.
AND I'M JUST USING TWO BOLTS TO HOLD THIS PATCH IN PLACE SO I CAN MARK THE HOLES FOR THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER.
AND THEN IT'S BACK TO THE EDWARDS IRON WORKER. NOW WE CHOSE TO REMOVE THE CLEAR GUARD SO YOU GUYS COULD SEE EXACTLY HOW THIS WORKS. AND SINCE OUR PATCH OVERLAPS THE FIREWALL, I NEED TO DRILL ONE HOLE COMPLETELY THROUGH TO HELP MOUNT THE MASTER CYLINDER. PUT THIS BACK ON.
PUT THE MASTER IN.
AND I'LL GO AHEAD AND HOLD THIS UP. THEN WE'VE GOT TO MOVE TO THE INSIDE CAUSE I'VE GOT TO MOVE THE BRAKE PEDAL OVER TO MATCH IT. ALL RIGHT, SO I DRILLED ONE HOLE IN THE BRACKET TO HELP KEEP EVERYBODY IN THE SAME SPOT. NOW WE'LL GO AHEAD AND TIGHTEN THAT DOWN, AND THEN I'LL KEEP DRILLING THE REST OF THE HOLES OUT TO MOUNT THE BRACKET. THERE'S GONNA BE QUITE A BIT OF THEM CAUSE IT IS THE BRAKE PEDAL.
NOW I COULDN'T EXACTLY USE THE IRON WORKER HERE. SO IT'S BACK TO THE TRUSTY OLD DRILL. [ drill spinning ]
(JEREMY)>> AND USING OUR TRIED AND TRUE METHOD WE'LL START WITH THE SMALLER DRILL BIT AND WORK OUR WAY UP TO THE CORRECT SIZE.
WE'RE USING ALL GRADE EIGHT HARDWARE FROM INDUSTRIAL DEPOT BECAUSE AGAIN, THIS IS THE BRAKE SYSTEM.
DRILL ONE LAST HOLE THAT ACTUALLY HOLDS THE MASTER CYLINDER ON. IT'S ACTUALLY INSIDE HERE BUT WE'LL DO IT FROM THE OUTSIDE.
NOW WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT THE MASTER CYLINDER ON IT TOO.
(ELIZA)>> IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU'VE SEEN ON TODAY'S SHOW VISIT US AT POWERNATION TV DOT COM.
(JEREMY)>> TIGHTEN EVERYTHING DOWN AND HOOK THE PUSH ROD UP.
(NARRATOR)>> AFTER THE BREAK WE'LL CHECK OUT SOME COOL WELDING HELMETS, STICK AROUND!
(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WE THOUGHT WE'D TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO SHOW YOU SOME OF THE COOL NEW TOOLS THAT WE HAVE IN THE SHOP. NOW LINCOLN ELECTRIC HAS COME IN AND HAS GIVEN US EVERY TOOL WE MAY NEED TO SOLVE PRETTY MUCH ANY PROBLEM WE MAY FIND.
[ welder crackling ]
(JEREMY)>> NOW YOU'RE NOT GONNA WELD ANYTHING WITHOUT A GOOD HELMET. WELL LINCOLN HAS COME UP WITH A GREAT NEW DESIGN BECAUSE LET'S FACE IT. WE'VE ALL WORN THOSE OLD HELMETS WHERE YOU JUST CAN'T SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING. NOW OUR GOOD BUDDY CHASE IS HERE FROM LINCOLN ELECTRIC TO TELL US ALL ABOUT THESE GREAT NEW HELMETS. CHASE WHAT DO WE GOT?
(CHASE)>> SO RIGHT HERE WE HAVE A VIKING 33-50 SERIES AUTO DARKENING WELDING HELMET. SO FIRST I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE DESIGN. SO THIS WAS DESIGNED WITH COMFORT IN MIND. SO THE FIRST THING TO POINT OUT IS THE PIVOT STYLE HEAD GEAR. SO WHAT THIS ALLOWS THE OPERATOR TO DO IS ADJUST IT FOR A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT FEATURES TO MAINTAIN COMFORTABILITY. THE SECOND DESIGN FEATURE I WANT TO CALL OUT IS THE SHELL DESIGN. SO WE USED A LIGHT WEIGHT NYLON PLASTIC, WHICH OFFERS FLEXIBILITY BUT ALSO DURABILITY FOR ANY TYPE OF WELDING ENVIRONMENT.
(JEREMY)>> NOW WE TALKED BEFORE THAT YOU REALLY CAN'T SEE OUT OF THOSE OLD WELDING HELMETS, AND LINCOLN'S GOT A GREAT LINE THAT YOU CAN'T WELD WHAT YOU CAN'T SEE. AND I KNOW THERE'S SOME PRETTY COOL OPTICS GOING ON INSIDE HERE. SO WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT?
(CHASE)>> AUTO DARKENING WELDING HELMETS USE AN LCD DISPLAY. TRADITIONAL WELDING HELMETS USE A LIME GREEN COLOR THAT OPERATORS CAN VIEW THROUGH THE HELMET. [ welder crackling ]
(CHASE)>> HOWEVER OUR ENGINEERS DEVELOPED FOURC LENS TECHNOLOGY, WHICH ALTERS THIS COLOR TO MORE OF A COOL BLUE, WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO SEE THE ARC AND PUDDLE CLEARER AND ALSO REDUCES EYE STRAIN. [ welder crackling ]
(CHASE)>> YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. WE SCORED A PERFECT RATING ON THE ONLY AUTO DARKENING OPTIC TEST IN THE WORLD.
(JEREMY)>> WELL IN THE PAST I WOULD JUST USE MY WELDING HELMET TO WELD. WELL LINCOLN HAS MADE THESE THINGS PRETTY VERSATILE. WHY DON'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT IT?
(CHASE)>> THIS HELMET ACTUALLY HAS THREE SEPARATE MODES. THE FIRST MODE IS CUT. SO THAT IS SHADES FIVE TO EIGHT. SO THIS ALLOWS YOU TO PLASMA CUT OR OXY FUEL CUT. [ torch cutting metal ]
(CHASE)>> THE SECOND MODE IS WELD, WHICH IS GONNA BE SHADE RANGES NINE TO 13, WHICH IS YOUR TRADITIONAL AUTO DARKENING SHADE RANGES. AND THEN THE LAST MODE IS GRIND MODE. SO WHAT THIS DOES IS IT TURNS OFF THE HELMET'S ARC SENSORS AND KEEPS THE HELMET IN THE SHADE THREE POINT FIVE RANGE. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO USE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT METAL FABRICATION TOOLS AND SEE CLEARLY.
(JEREMY)>> WELL CHASE, THANKS FOR GIVING US THESE AWESOME WELDING HELMETS. AND YOU KNOW US, WE'LL DEFINITELY PUT THEM TO GOOD USE.
(CHASE)>> THANKS FOR HAVING ME TODAY, I KNOW YOU WILL.
(JEREMY)>> SO YOU'VE GOT YOUR RIG ALL DONE AND YOU'RE READY TO GO OUT AND BLAZE THOSE TRAILS. WELL YOU'RE GONNA WANT TO GRAB LIKE A TO GO BAG FULL OF PARTS AND TOOLS. WELL ONE OF THOSE SPARE PARTS YOU MAY WANT TO BRING IS AN EXTRA DRIVESHAFT. WELL YOU'RE NOT GONNA WANT TO GO OUT AND SPEND ALL THAT EXTRA MONEY HAVING ANOTHER CUSTOM DRIVESHAFT MADE. SO WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE A DRIVESHAFT THAT'LL GET YOU OFF THE TRAILS, BACK TO BASE CAMP, AND THEN UP ON YOUR TRAILER. WE'LL MEASURE FROM CENTER OF THE UJOINT TO CENTER OF THE UJOINT. IT'S ABOUT 33 INCHES. NOW WE'RE GONNA CUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE WELD. NOW YOU DON'T HAVE TO CUT VERY DEEP. THE TUBING IS ONLY ABOUT EIGHTH OF AN INCH THICK, AND WE DON'T WANT TO CUT DIRECTLY INTO THE END ITSELF. A LITTLE PERSUASION POPS THE YOKE RIGHT OUT OF THE TUBE.
ALL RIGHT, NOW WE KNOW WE WANT OUR CENTER OF UJOINT TO CENTER OF UJOINT TO BE ABOUT 33 INCHES, AND SINCE WE CUT THIS OFF THIS MEASURES ABOUT TWO INCHES FROM CUT LINE TO THIS CENTER OF THE UJOINT. SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO GO BACK TO OUR ORIGINAL LINE OF 33, SUBTRACT TWO INCHES, MARK OUR STRAIGHT LINE, AND WE'LL CUT IT THERE.
AND THIS IS HOW WE ARE GONNA ENSURE A PERFECTLY STRAIGHT CUT. WE CUT A PIECE OF SHEET METAL ON OUR SHEAR, AND WE'RE GONNA HOLD IT ON WITH A HOSE CLAMP. THEN WE'RE JUST GONNA LAY THE CUTOFF WHEEL RIGHT ALONG SIDE AND CUT IT OFF COMPLETELY STRAIGHT. [ saw cutting metal ]
(JEREMY)>> YOU CAN USE A FLAT FILE TO TRUE THE EDGES UP OR TO JUST DEBURR THE INSIDE. NOW WE'RE ALSO GONNA USE ONE OF OUR GRINDERS TO BEVEL THE EDGE TO GIVE US A STRONGER WELDING SURFACE. [ metal grinding ]
[ hammer tapping metal ]
(JEREMY)>> ALL RIGHT, NOW THAT WE HAVE OUR DRIVESHAFT THE LENGTH WE NEED IT AND THAT BOTH UJOINTS ARE CLOCKED THE SAME WAY WE'VE GOT THIS PRETTY MUCH READY TO WELD. REMEMBER THIS IS JUST FOR THE TRAILS. SO AT LEAST WHEN IT'S DONE IT'LL GET YOU BACK ONTO THE TRAILER. [ welder crackling ]
(JEREMY)>> NOW THAT OUR DRIVESHAFT IS COMPLETELY WELDED UP WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GO OVER TO THE PRESS AND PRESS OUR SLIP YOKE AND NEW UJOINT ON, AND THE DRIVESHAFT WILL BE READY FOR THE TRAILS.
