NFL Running Back Leonard Fournette’s Dodge Durango Hellcat Ignites Into Flames While Mid-Drive
On the football field, NFL running back Leonard Fournette has endured and avoided all kinds of injuries. But the former Buccaneer recently avoided potential burns after his Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat caught fire while driving on I-275 in Tampa, Florida. While he managed to safely pull over to the side of the highway and exit the vehicle, the Durango was sent into early retirement.
Roadside Misfortune For Fournette
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat caught fire due to a mechanical issue and thankfully, did not result in a crash or a roadside accident. Fournette shared a video of the fire’s aftermath to his Instagram with the caption, “Man it was one of those days today, but I would like thank God, my car caught on fire while I was driving, But I’am still blessed.”
Is There A Potential Fire Risk With The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat?
The 2023 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat returned to production as the most powerful factory-made gas-powered SUV ever. Equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, this SUV is capable of producing 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to send it from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a max speed of 180 mph. In 2021, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat saw a limited run of only 3,000 produced units before making its mighty return in 2023.
Leonard Fournette’s misfortune appears to be its own isolated incident as Stellantis has never had to issue a recall for the Dodge Durango and Durango SRT Hellcat over potential fire risks.
