Camaro Sales Skyrocket As The Muscle Car Nears Its Retirement Party

When the news broke that Chevrolet would be discontinuing the iconic Camaro, muscle car fans around the world were shocked. With only a handful of muscle cars that have stood the test of time, watching Chevrolet send the Camaro off into the sunset as one of the last remaining V8 stick-shift performance vehicles is an emotional moment for many enthusiasts.

Saying goodbye to the sixth and final generation of the Camaro means two things:

1. Fans must bid farewell to one of the greatest muscle cars of all time
2. The Camaro is going to be a commodity, opening the door for increased sales and demand

Demand For The Muscle Car Is Suddenly Huge

But on a more positive note, since the announcement was made, sales for the 2024 Chevy Camaro have increased 110.3% in Q2 when compared to this same time period in 2022. Last year, there were only 4,545 new units sold between April and June. Fast forward to this year, that number has shot up to 9,557 new vehicles sold. General Motors intends on keeping the 2024 model in production up until January 2024, so there is still plenty of time for hungry buyers to get their hands on one of the final models to make it off the assembly line before it is gone for good.

But this spike in sales isn’t just some quarterly fluke. As of July 2023, sales have risen 54% when compared to 2022. By this time of last year, there were only 11,255 new units sold. In 2023, that total has risen by over 6,000 with a current total of 17,337.

It’s just like that Cinderella song “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)”. Everyone loved and respected this car, but not everyone loved it enough to put it in their driveway.

The Camaro had been trailing behind the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger in the battle for the modern-day muscle car, which is going through an identity crisis of its own. Stellantis is converting the next-gen Dodge Challenger over entirely to electric. Meanwhile, Ford debuted the 7th-generation Mustang as a throttle-hungry, neo-traditional muscle car that is powered by a next-gen Coyote V8 engine. Unfortunately due to decreasing sales and popularity, the Camaro had become a casualty of the market’s wants and needs.

What Kind of Options Are There For The 2024 Model?

Even though the Camaro will be singing its swan song soon, that doesn’t mean it won’t be going out quietly. Chevy revealed the special Panther Collector’s Edition Camaro that features an exclusive paint scheme and performance package. There is also an extremely rare Garage56 edition that pays tribute to the success of the NASCAR ZL1 Camaro at Le Mans.
