Why is the 2022 Camaro Production Delayed?

It’s been a year, to say the least. From a pandemic that led to ripple effects in the auto industry in the form of semiconductor chip shortages and halted production, to empty new car lots, causing used car prices to soar, we’ve seen some pretty bizarre events unfold. The hits keep coming, and GM Authority announced that 2022 Camaro production will continue to be hindered.

Production of the 2022 Camaro was slated for June 2021, but GM Authority reports that production is delayed until September 2021. Although no explanation has been offered on the matter, we know the delay impacts both the Camaro Coupe and Convertible options. We can only assume it has to do with the same issues plaguing Chevrolet, but that’s purely speculative at this point. The car is set to receive some minor upgrades over the 2021 model, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see exactly what that is.

Despite us not knowing how the Camaro will appear or what upgrades it’ll receive, the order books were opened earlier this year for sales of the new car. If you’re in line to get one the news probably wasn’t what you wanted to hear, and based on the plethora of production issues, we imagine the changes will be limited to what’s offered with each trim level. With that said, new color options should be available.

The 2022 Camaro will continue offering its current engine lineup, which starts with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder that generates 275 horsepower and 295-pound-feet of torque, or a naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 with 335 horsepower and 284-pound-feet of torque. The base 6.2 V8 will offer 455 horsepower and 455-pound-feet of torque, and the LT4 supercharged 6.2 won’t be short on ponies with its 650 horsepower and 650-pound-feet of torque.

General Motors has been at the forefront of headlines recently when they announced their lineup will be fully electric by 2035, upsetting some loyal enthusiasts. However, that is still ways away, and despite poor Camaro sales likely because of the pandemic, the brand remains committed to producing exceptional muscle cars and legendary V8s the brand built their reputation on.

Once we get past these hiccups and production delays, Chevrolet will be back to taking a bite out of the competition and building muscle cars at a rate they’re used to. Will you be purchasing a 2022 Camaro?
