U.S. Attorney Looking For Owner Of Recovered Ferrari Stolen 18 Years Ago

After almost two decades, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is looking for the owner of a 1996 Ferrari F50 with just 10,708 miles on it valued at around $1.9 million.

Official Ferrari records show the car was stolen from an Italian hotel parking garage on March 30, 2003. The car was believed to have then been recovered during an inspection at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York on December 14, 2019 while being transported from Canada into the U.S, according to Customs and Border Protection officers.

The CBP says the government has filed a civil action to determine who can take ownership of the vehicle after officers noticed a few of the rivets on the VIN plate were covered with a black tar substance.

The Buffalo News reports two people have come forward claiming the car is theirs. Italian citizen Paolo Provenzi bought it with his father and brother. However, a Miami man identified as Mohammed Alsaloussi says he purchased the car online for $1.435 million in September 2019 to add to his collection.

For now, the vehicle has been placed on a “hold” while an investigation was conducted trying to locate the rightful owner.
