This Truck Has The Only Lift Kit That Keeps Driver-Assistance Systems Intact

Toyota announced their new TRD Lift Kit is the only one of its kind validated by Toyota engineers to be compatible with the truck’s driver-assistance suite. It is available on V6 4×4 models, and the TRD kit offers two inches of front suspension lift and a one-inch lift in the rear. If we can chime in, it’s pretty sweet.

Toyota accomplished this with a redesigned grille like the one you find on the Tacoma TRD Pro, and it has a Toyota Safety Sense millimeter-wave sensor and camera support bracket, allowing the existing TSS tech to work following installation. The standard Toyota Safety Sense equipment on the Tacoma includes pedestrian detection, pre-collision braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The Tacoma has certainly come a long way from its days as a bare-bones truck.

The Tacoma is equipped with new Bilstein shocks which provide the additional lift. They also come with red dust boots and TRD graphics. On top of the extra ground clearance, these new shocks improve the off-road geometry of the truck, with a 32-degree approach angle, 23-degree breakover angle, and 24-degree departure angle. It’s an increase of 3.1, 1.6, and 0.5. It allows for the truck to be more capable than the TRD Off-Road model, although not quite as robust as the TRD pro.

If it’s something you’re interested in, the TRD Lift Kit is only available as a dealer-installed option. It can be fitted to most 2020 and newer V6 4×4 Tacoma, except for the TRD Pro. It costs a reasonable $1,350, which doesn’t include labor. Toyota feels confident enough to back it with a three-year 36,000-mile warranty, similar to other TRD upgrades.

So what’s our take on this? It’s an awesome upgrade at a reasonable price backed by a Toyota warranty. If you’re an off-road enthusiast and own a Tacoma, it’s an incredible opportunity to take the truck even further into the woods without draining the bank.
