Pre-Production 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat Stolen Straight From FCA Employee’s Driveway
It’s no surprise people are after the 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat. The Durango SRT Hellcat might very well be the most powerful SUV on the planet with 710 horsepower and a supercharged V8 under the hood. Add on the fact that it will only be offered for one model year and production hasn’t started yet, naturally, people are anxious to get their hands on it. But to steal it straight from an FCA employee’s driveway is a bit extreme.
Mopar Insiders reports the pre-production vehicle was plucked straight from the driveway of a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles employee and ended up on the Facebook page Stolen Cars, Detroit MI. What makes this theft unusual is that typically, the new vehicles are stolen straight from the plant production lot, not the personal home of workers. The Facebook post states it only took the thieves 3 minutes to get the vehicle started and out of the driveway.
Unfortunately, most of these cars are never recovered and if they are, they aren’t in great condition. That’s even more likely in this case being the car was pre-production which means there are flaws and can’t be registered by individuals. Thefts like this are so common that Michigan has some of the highest insurance rates in the country.
