Carroll Shelby’s Personal Cobra 427 Super Snake At Auction

Barrett-Jackson

This is the real deal! Carroll Shelby’s very own 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake, CSX 3015, is headed to the auction block at Barrett-Jackson. The car is listed on lot #139.

It’s the only remaining 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake and was built personally for Carroll Shelby. It will be auctioned as part of a private collection where there will be 17 additional collectible vehicles offered with No Reserve.

According to the auction listing, the Cobra is powered by a 427ci V8 engine with two Paxton superchargers and an automatic transmission. Additionally, it’s 1 of just 23 427 competition roadsters built.

A year after its production, it was transformed for Carroll Shelby himself into the Super Snake and reclassified as 427 Cobra Semi-Competition. The twin Paxton superchargers were added by Shelby American to the 427ci V8.

Although Shelby made additions, 3015 still has its original headers with its original chromed side pipes that had been spray painted flat black. In fact, CSX 3015 is so period original it was opted to renew instead of restore.

Another rarity crossing the block from the collection is a 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX 4000 Series (Lot #1353) continuation car, which was commissioned by Carroll Shelby. If you’re interested, the collection will be at the Scottsdale Auction March 20-27, 2021.
