3D Crosswalks May Help Save Lives

Two elementary students are being credited with the idea that may help save the lives of others, specifically their classmates. Hoping to encourage drivers to slow down around their school, the students came up with the idea of creating a three-dimensional crosswalk. The optical illusion makes it look like you’re about to go over a speed bump.

Eric Dobson and his friend Isa proposed the idea of painting a 3D optical illusion crosswalk near the Brooks Elementary School in Medford, Massachusetts. The idea is similar to crosswalks that are painted in other countries, like China and England.

The kids gave their proposal to Mayor Muccini Burke, who loved it and scheduled them to speak at a Traffic Commission meeting. After receiving support from the committee, the crosswalk was painted by local artist Nate Swain.
