today. Trucks is shaken up the power block. It all starts with us checking out for it's all new F 350 power stroke duly. Then we're adding a heavy duty hitch for some heavy duty towing. And finally, we're announcing the big plan for this truck. Power block is getting bigger hauling some very special projects. It's a big day here on trucks. What are we searching for and what are we going to restore?
Hey guys, welcome to trucks.
Well, Project Super Dooley is our Frankenstein mash up and the mixture of a 97 Dodge Dooley chassis powered by the near bulletproof cummins turbo diesel engine cloaked in the 79 Ford Club cab body. And we want to thank you guys for making it as popular as it is. It's one of the most popular builds we've done on the show. By the time it gets done, it's going to be one cool tow rig.
But as cool as we hope the final outcome of this truck is going to be the truth is we will probably have used every single tool in the shop to get it done.
But what if your checkbook is bigger than your toolbox or you don't have time to build a super duly. Well, you may end up buying a super duty like this monster 2011 F 350 with the brand new 6.7 L power stroke diesel
now crammed underneath the hood is an all new 6.7 L turbo diesel engine.
This power stroke is making 400 horsepower and 800 pounds of torque, but it's not doing it at the expense of fuel economy. Ford claims there's going to be a 20% increase in fuel economy over last year's model.
And they've also got a single sequential turbocharger which features articulating veins that can vary the airflow depending on how hard and how far you push down on the accelerator.
Now by now, I'm sure you've heard of ad PF filter system which stands for diesel particulate filter. This truck has that but it also has a second system ad EF system which is a urea injection filled right here that injects the liquid into the exhaust to help control pollution. Now, this system is in place to help this truck meet the strict emission standards that all new diesel vehicles are saddled with
now like it or hay. It, these filter systems are here to stay. But the good news is they allow this 400 horsepower 800 ft pound vehicle to go down the highway with no black suit coming out the tailpipe and no appreciable odor. So, maybe it's not such a bad thing.
Oh, and by the way, urea,
it is found in urine
and no,
you can't be in the tank
at the back of the truck. You'll find what's kind of become standard on most late model trucks that are designed to work. We've got a factory installed hitch and a couple of options for trailer wiring
now to make accessing the cargo a little bit easier, we've got a drop down step
and this foldable handle thingy, but check out the bed floor, it's got relief in it for a gooseneck hitch.
Now, the first impression you get
when you sit in this truck
is that it is loaded. It's got everything. A sunroof, a great display,
more controls and electronic gizmos than you can shake a stick at things like an integrated trailer, brake heated seats and this cool display that has navigation, the Ford Sink system and among other things,
a cool backup camera
and as good as this thing looked in the shop. Well, we wanted to test drive it. So we took it out for a mix of two lane back roads and some highway miles.
And the first thing we noticed was how modern trucks have gotten
comfortable and quiet on the inside and a nice smooth ride out on the highway
and it's gonna have to ride smooth because this thing's gonna see a ton of highway miles in the near future, but we'll tell you more about that later.
But so far, our initial impression
is a good one
for such a big truck. This thing flat out rolls and it is a big truck. It's a crew cab, long bed and with such a long wheel base, it makes this truck a perfect candidate for pulling a large enclosed gooseneck or fifth wheel trailer.
And that's exactly what we're going to do right now. Install a goose neck.
Now, there's nothing like drilling the very first hole in a brand new $60,000 truck. So you better make sure you're on the money.
Well, they're tight.
It's new.
And after removing the eight bed vaults disconnecting the fuel filler lines and unplugging all the electrical connections, we put our bed lifter to the test.
Now, removing the bed isn't an absolute necessity, but it sure does make the job easier.
And after loosely installing the side plates and the angle iron cross members, you could drop in the big center section.
Strangely enough, it's kind of heavy.
It's weird.
This hitch can easily handle well over 20,000 pounds. And that's a good thing
because like we told you before, we've got big plans for this truck
and it involves hauling project cars around
and not necessarily our either
more on that later
and just like all critical fasteners. After snugging them down with air tools, we broke out the big torque wrench
go, go gadget army
the rest of the bolts for decoration. Big three quarter inch bolts.
What holds it in place
now, to install the gooseneck hitch ball, all you've gotta do is reach into the driver's side wheel. Well, pull the handle back, drop in the hitch ball and lock it in place. But when you're not using it to tow,
well, just flip it over,
drop it back in, lock it into place and you've got a nice flat bed floor that you can use without obstruction.
Come forward. There we go. Oh,
heck yeah, man.
Ready. Yeah,
that's a, a snug fit.
Yes, it is.
After temporarily reinstalling the bed, we marked the holes for the safety chains
and we pulled the bed off again, drilled an eight inch pilot hole followed by a step drill, step bits provide a nice clean hole in the sheet metal without any burn.
Now, you may want to use an alignment tool to make sure your safety chain. U bolts
drop right in place

Hey, welcome back to trucks. Well, today's a big day because we just announced our brand new show, search and restore and the f 350 Duley, it's looking good, isn't it?
Now, the search and restore team is going coast to coast looking for restoration projects
and they're going to need more than just a pickup truck. And that is why we installed the goose neck.
So we picked up this 36 ft triple axle enclosed car hauler and just like the truck. Well, there's just a few things we need to do to make this thing road ready.
So the first piece of equipment we're going to install is this Miller Blue Star DX generator and welder in case we have to do some kind of a trail fix or a roadside repair or light up a small city.
Now, this generator is rated at 6000 watts with both 2 41 20 electrical outlets,
but a well equipped trailer has more than one power source. So we're going to throw in a couple of deep cycle optimist to handle both winch duty and internal lighting just in case we're not connected to shore power.
Now, more than likely the vehicles we're going to be picking up aren't going to run. Heck, they may have four square tires or no tires at all. So we picked up this overkill 8000 pound winch just to make sure we can drag anything we want to into this enclosed trailer.
Now, this trailer is big and more than capable of fitting any vehicle we're gonna go pick up, but it looks even bigger on the outside.
So Troy and his crew got to work making this thing look better, but it's not their first rodeo.
They've covered the open wheel modified and the 69 Nova that horsepower built along with extreme four by fours, Chevy WD 40 truck.
Now to wrap such a big vehicle in our case, a trailer, Troy has always relied on two solid partners to get the job done.
Avery, who you probably are familiar with and use every day for your labels, provides him with the media.
But what may surprise you is who makes the giant print
that spit out the detailed full color graphics?
It's actually seo,
yes, that's
Seo, the same one that makes the watch on Troy's wrist.
Seo
is constantly improving their high end printer technology and keeping pace with the state of the art media that Avery produces
in the past, the old media stuck as soon as it touched the surface. But now Troy uses their er se means it's got air release, it goes on dry and air escapes from underneath it due to the texture on the back. But the Rs component is what's so unique
about the surface of the adhesive. It now gives the installer ultimate control over the initial tech. You can see the little shiny looks almost like little glass beads on it.
And what this does is enables the graphic to actually slide across the painted surface
for us to position and get into position and only when I touch it does it stick. So I'm always driving the bus.
Well, there you go. Our new trailer is fully wrapped. Now, we just have to let it sit out in the sun for about a day and make sure the adhesive is fully cured.

Hey guys, welcome back to trucks. Well, D Os Broncos survived another difficult day out on the trail and all the modifications we made paid off big time,
but we did make an ignition upgrade that didn't cost us a thing
nice. Now, our wire set came with a
typical wire separators, but what if you lose them or you never had them to start with?
Well, you certainly don't want your plug wires haphazardly laying in the engine bay getting caught up in the belt or even possibly laying on the exhaust and burning through. We've got a cheap and easy solution to keep your plug wire straight.
Our homemade wire separator is nothing but zip ties.
After loosely securing the main loof, go ahead and isolate or separate each wire with another smaller zip tie
again, not fully tightening any of the zip ties until you're done.
And once you're happy with how everything is laid out now, you can go ahead and snug everything down
and since the zip tides are available in just about every color under the sun.
Well, you can get creative
now to trim the ends. A lot of guys will just reach for a pair of sniffs and trim the end leaving about a quarter inch exposed. That's a nice sharp, jagged little edge. I like to use a razor blade. It leaves a nice flush cut and it won't cut up your forearms the next time you're working in your engine bed.
Now, the cooling mods on our C six did a great job, but we did one more modification to help this transmission lift
and that is all through the vent tube just a little bit, took the cap off and Ryan has drilled out the port. Basically, all we're gonna do is put a plastic fitting into the port.
And since this fitting is not pressurized, a little bit of R TV, will seal it up nicely. Then we can just get some vacuum hose and route it up to a high and dry place. That way, we're not taking water into the transmission case in case we decide to submerge this thing again.
