The Ram TRX Is Marked Up How Much!?

If you’re thinking about taking a mortgage out on your house or selling some of Grandma’s heirlooms, it may not be enough to purchase the Ram TRX anymore unless you’re planning on living in it. Despite its short time on the market, it’s been slapped with some hefty premiums by some dealerships, erasing any dream us regular folks had to own this 702-horsepower monster.

A Ram salesperson recently posted on Reddit to let the world know what his dealership was doing and provided us with some examples of the markups taking place. Their dealership had received ten Ram TRXs and slapped each one with a $25,000 premium. The Ram 1500 TRX Launch Editions will set you back even more with a $50,000 markup.

After investigating Autotrader and CarGurus, we found a dealer in Huntington Beach, California with four of the trucks. Two were listed at $110,975 and the other was listed at $111,470. The TRX Launch Edition boasted a price tag of $143,145, which is much higher than the starting price of $70,095 for the base model and $92,405 for the Launch Edition.

The typical markup for the truck is $50,000, while the premium for standard models runs anywhere between $10,000 and $20,000.

Fortunately, not all Ram dealerships in the states are seeking a quick buck and taking advantage of the demand for the truck. Most price tags are between $72,000 and $96,000, which isn’t far off from MSRP. However, even with a premium, we expect the TRX will fly off the lots and sell out, again.

In a world that’s moving a different way, the most significant attribute is the truck’s supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8 that pumps out a stomach-churning 702-horsepower and 650-pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to a four-wheel-drive system. Despite its size and lack of aerodynamics, the truck can reach 60mpg in 4.5 seconds. It’s not your Grandpa’s truck, to say the least.

Fortunately, there are some honest dealers left not trying to take advantage of those who want to add this to their collection. Some of us have waited our entire lives and saved to have a unique toy. Would you purchase the truck with a markup?
