Is 1,000-Horsepower Necessary in the New TRX-Based Mammoth 1000? Of Course It Is

We’ll start this piece off with an old generic quote – there’s no replacement for displacement, and the 6.2L V8 TRX is a beast in an era where manufacturers are downsizing engines. Here’s a new, not yet generic quote – the new TRX-Based Mammoth 1000 packs over 1,000-horsepower into the Ram TRX 1500. We think it’s insanely cool, but seriously wonder how it’ll hook on the pavement. Maybe a pile of bricks in the bed?

The Ram TRX is already in a league of its own, and Hennessey decided to take a truck that’s already a man amongst boys and squeeze out some more ponies. The modded Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX cranks out a ridiculous 1,012-horsepower and 969-pound-feet of torque. Try explaining that to someone who’s waking up from a cryogenic chamber nap induced just a few years ago.

Hennessey managed to gain 310-horsepower and 319-pound-feet of torque over stock, which was already ridiculous to start. We’re happy to hand over our hard-earned dollars for this, but we might be making some budget adjustments, like not paying our cable or electricity bills. It starts at $135,350, so we might forego eating, too.

It’s hard to add on to the externals of the truck as Ram did an exceptional job, so Hennessey focused their attention under the hood. You might have read some internet comments saying that gaining 300-horsepower isn’t all that impressive in that motor, but it took more than a tune, new intake, and exhaust to achieve it.

Hennessey made extensive upgrades to the 6.2L V8 for it to gulp more fuel and get more air. They did this by adding a 2.65L supercharger system over the factory 2.4L, upper and lower pulleys, high-flow catalytic converters, stainless-steel long tube headers, high-flow mid-pipes, bigger fuel injectors, high-flow air intake, crankcase ventilation system, and Hennessey tuning.

All of the upgrades resulted in a claimed 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds, which is just insane – the truck, stock, weighs 6,396 pounds. Other than trending toward smaller more efficient motors, the future of engines has been awesome. This is, by far, the most powerful Ram truck ever built by the tuner.

The Mammoth 1000 Ram TRX also boasts a Mammoth Off-Road Stage 1 package, which includes LED-light equipped front and rear bumpers, 20-inch Hennessey 10-spoke wheels, 2.5-inch front leveling kit, and 35-inch Goodyear tires that you can find on the stock TRX. It also has an electronically retractable bed cover and upgraded electronic fold-out steps that are convenient due to its Mammoth size. It will also have “MAMMOTH1000” badges around the truck.

The Hennessey Mammoth 1000 is turnkey, and despite its hefty price tag of $135,350, it includes a lot. Hennessey will offer chassis dyno testing, professional installation, and a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty. It will go into limited production and give the world 200 of these trucks, which will include serial numbered plaques. Delivery begins around April 2021.
