Human Waste Spill Causes Multiple Accidents, Wrecked Cars, and Chaos on I-95 Highway

Whenever there is a spill involving a tractor-trailer, it becomes a huge road hazard for everyone on the road, depending on the actual substance. There have been times when large containers of alfredo sauce, beer, and 15,000 pounds of hot dog filler lay splattered across the highway, causing huge traffic shutdowns to clean up the mess. However, a tractor-trailer on I-95 North in Bridgeport, CT caused a large number of crashes involving other cars, two police cruisers, and even a motorcycle due to leaking… “human waste.”

It Was Leaking What?

Police say that the 2017 Mack truck was towing a trailer containing an “unsecured load leaking human waste” northbound on the highway. As a result of the leak, road conditions were described as “slick” due to them being “scattered” with excrement, causing a multitude of accidents to follow.

One man riding on a motorcycle fell off his vehicle and onto the road due to the slippery road conditions. He was transported to the local hospital for minor injuries and his motorcycle was towed away from the scene.

Another motorist driving a Toyota Avalon lost control of their vehicle, causing them to spin out into the right shoulder of the highway before crashing into a concrete barrier.

While responding to the scene, two state police cruisers were parked in the median with their emergency lights flashing while troopers were assisting drivers involved in accidents caused by the leaking tractor-trailer. During that time, a Freightliner that was traveling in the left center lane had jackknifed as it approached the scene. It resulted in it hitting the driver’s side of a separate tractor-trailer, as well as colliding with the two state police cruisers parked in the median. Thankfully there were no injuries. Just more traffic.

However, it was quite ironic that this traffic doo-doo resulted in travel constipation.

What Happened to the Driver of the Truck Leaking Human Waste?

In the midst of all this chaos, the driver of the leaking truck received a call from his employer to pull over on Route 8 and wait for the police to arrive.

According to police, the 34-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested for reckless driving, unsecured load, and a dozen counts of first-degree reckless endangerment. Police say that the driver was aware of the leak and was released on a $25,000 bond. He will be due in the state Superior Court on August 8th. Although the victims of the spill would like for the prosecutors to rub the suspect’s nose in the mess he made, it is fair to say that the judge will have a real stinker of a case on their hands.
