How To Decode Tire Sidewall Information
Ordering tires for your vehicle can be daunting. Especially if you’re starting from scratch after changing the ride height or wheel diameter. There’s a lot of information on the sidewall of the tire that can help you out, but what does it all mean and which numbers do you actually need?
First off, you’ll always be able to tell the brand from the sidewall. Down the tire will be the model and tire size. Above those numbers will be the treadwear rating.
Along with treadwear rating, you’ll typically see traction and temperature ratings. For the treadwear rating, the higher the number goes the longer the tire will last and will typically be a harder compound. Traction ratings range from AA to C. Temperature ratings are the ability of the tire to perform even at higher temperatures.
