In a video posted to Instagram, an unfortunate orange Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was spotted on the streets of Detroit as the victim of thieves targeting it for its parts. Based on the footage, these were no amateur thieves either. This poor Hellcat had been stripped clean by some very experienced, and very knowledgeable individuals that understood the value of its parts. As a result, all that remained was an empty shell and body panels that somewhat resembled an animal’s skeleton that was picked clean by a group of vultures.
What Happened To This Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat?
To be specific, nearly all of the car’s insides and parts of the exterior are completely gone. The most valuable part would most definitely be the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that can deliver 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Also, considering that this engine also weighs over 400 lbs, it is assumed that the thieves implemented an engine crane into their operation. Also, even though car’s 8-speed automatic transmission cannot be seen in the video, we can safely assume that it was taken as well.
Additionally, the car’s dashboard, interior, electronics, wheels, tires, steering wheel, headlights, taillights, and even the carpeting were stripped clean. To see any car completely picked apart down to nothing is an unfortunate sight. But it is even more disappointing to see it happen to a high-powered muscle car like this Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
Whoever tore down this unfortunate Challenger knew that there was more value in its individual parts, since the Detroit Police Department has become very skilled in tracking down thieves that are either driving around in or attempting to sell a hot car.
