California Will Ban the Sale of New Gas-Powered Cars by 2035

According to a report by the New York Times, the state of California will ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035. The ban goes into effect in the state as of Thursday, August 25th, 2022, and there may be a chance that it will directly affect auto sales in the U.S.

More than a dozen other states follow the California Air Resources Board’s example in setting their own emissions policies, and there could be a possibility that they may implement this ban too.

According to the ban, its aim is to reduce fossil fuel emissions in an effort to combat climate change and a series of target goals must be met before the year 2035. By 2026, 35% of all new passenger vehicles sold in the state of California must generate zero carbon emissions. By 2030, that percentage will be increased to 68%, and then 100% by its deadline of 2035.

Some critics are skeptical whether or not the state of California will be able to produce enough chargers, as well as be able to have enough affordable EVs to go around within the next thirteen years.
