C7 Corvette Driver Sets World Record For Fastest Mile Driven in Reverse

The new Corvette C7.R, which was codeveloped with the 2015 Corvette Z06, will compete in GT Le Mans class of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The C7.R will make its competition debut at the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 25-26.

When you hear “Corvette”, the last word to come to mind is “slow.” The 2014 C7 Corvette packs 450 horsepower under the hood and can gun it from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds straight out of the factory. Of course, this is if you plan on driving forward. But can the same be said for going in reverse?

Apparently the sports car’s reverse capability is fast enough to land Scot Bruner into the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Fastest mile driven in reverse” in a C7 Corvette. On June 15th, 2022, Burner successfully set the new world record by completing a mile in reverse in 1 minute and 15.18 seconds at the NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, KY.

Burner was confident he was going to set the new world record because he had claimed to have already broken the previous record on his own in a separate attempt. So he decided to contact the Guinness World Records and have his skills put in the books permanently.

Watch Burner crank up the C7 Corvette up to 54 mph in reverse in the video below:
