5 Things You Need To Know About The Refreshed 2024 Ford F-150

The Ford F-Series has been dominating the pickup truck market in the U.S. for well over 40 years. To prove their success, the company even produced receipts of the revenue brought in by the F-Series to exceed that of other major corporate institutions like Netflix, Starbucks, and VISA just in 2022 alone. And the one model that has been serving as the flagship for the F-Series is none other than the mighty Ford F-150.

In the middle of a refresh for the 2024 Ford F-150, the automaker is adding a few significant upgrades to the full-size truck to pull ahead of its rivals like the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra to secure its throne as America’s best-selling truck. The overall theme of this truck could be viewed as “tough and smart” considering its reputation for being a reliable work truck with support from some handy new tech upgrades.

1. The 2024 Ford F-150 Got a Facelift

Ford reworked the truck’s front end to implement a larger “coast to coast” grille that runs the entire width of the face. Leaving the chrome stylings of its predecessors in the past, more customers are favoring the bold blacked-out look, giving this truck a more modern and sophisticated appearance. Not to mention the amount of personal customization options that will be available in the near future. Some may view its design as stemming from the seventh-generation F-150, but with standard LED headlights, and a “digitally inspired” Blue Oval Ford logo in white rather than chrome.

2. The Outward-Swinging Pro Access Tailgate

The tailgate has been a standard feature on pickup trucks since Ford began producing the Model A in 1903. They allow easy access and storage into the bed of the truck, and fundamentally has had no need for improvement when it is just a simple door function. Ford introduced some cool features into the truck’s rear, like a fold-down tailgate step in 2006, as well as a retractable handle for extra stability, power up/down tailgates with a work surface, integrated rulers, additional storage, mobile device stands, etc.

But for the 2024 Ford F-150, access to the truck bed will be much easier with the Pro Access Tailgate which introduces a 100-degree opening integrated swing gate into the standard tailgate. This type of feature is the kind to come in useful during times when space is a little more cramped and letting down the entire tailgate is not a recommended option. Or it can just make accessing items in the truck’s bed easier by opening a smaller door instead of letting down the entire tailgate system.

3. It Is Available As A Hybrid

With the F-Series positioning itself as a leader in the pickup market, that also means introducing hybrid drivetrains into its lineup. For the first half of 2023, the Ford F-150 was the best-selling hybrid pickup truck in the country, making up 28.1% of all hybrid truck sales. This is a major slice of the market, considering that only 10% of all sold F-150’s are hybrids.

In an effort to increase the number of hybrid trucks on the road, the 2024 Ford F-150 will be available with a PowerBoost Hybrid powertrain at the same MSRP as trucks with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine.

A 2024 Ford F-150 equipped with the PowerBoost Hybrid powertrain is capable of producing 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, which is the most amount of power ever produced by a factory F-150 outside of the Raptor and Raptor R.

“We’re making hybrid more accessible to our customers, giving them the power of choice by offering it as the same price as the 3.5-liter EcoBoost,” says Andrew Frick, VP of Sales and Trucks for Ford Blue. “This is the latest example of Ford democratizing technology for all truck customers. We did it with EcoBoost engines and with high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy bodies for greater capability, and now we’re doing it with PowerBoost Hybrid.”

4. Pro Trailer Assist

What many loyal Ford fans love about the F-150 is its towing ability, with the 2024 model having a max towing capacity of 13,500 pounds (depending on spec), and a max payload of 2,455 pounds.

But with new technology always being developed, the 2024 Ford F-150 sets itself up to be the smartest truck ever developed with 10 standard driver-assist features, including Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist.

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist improves the productivity of owners when it comes to hitching their truck up to a trailer through the magic of A.I. It uses the truck’s rear camera and corner radar to detect and align the truck’s hitch with the trailer’s coupler, all while controlling the speed, steering, and braking of the truck.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist allows customers to use the truck’s rear camera to track the position of the trailer as they manually back up the F-150 and guide the trailer by rotating a knob on the console to control the steering wheel.

5. Improved Digital Experiences

Seeing as the 2024 Ford F-150 is the most tech-heavy pickup in the F-Series to date, customers will be treated to the latest in digital experiences behind the wheel. The truck features a 12-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with SYNC 4 as standard equipment, along with a 12-inch cluster screen behind the steering wheel.

For the first time ever, the F-150 will feature a Head-Up Display that projects important information onto the windshield in front of the driver.

This truck will also be the first vehicle in North America available with Ford Stolen Vehicle Services, which is an onboard service that can be used to locate and recover a vehicle in the event that it is stolen. If a customer opts into the service, it will be able to use location data to transmit its location to authorities, giving customers a sense of assurance knowing that their vehicle is not out of their possession forever.

Official pricing and ordering information will be revealed closer to the truck’s release date in early 2024.
