The wait is finally over. Nissan first began introducing the Z to the marketplace in 2021 and it really struck a chord with sports car enthusiasts. Now the 2024 Nissan Z is here to push the new limits of its performance upgrades with the exciting return of the Z NISMO grade. Ready for the street and the track, this sports car has already become a fan-favorite among drivers across all experience levels.
FULL BUILD: DATSUN 280Z HERITAGE RESTOMOD
Packed with even more horsepower and torque, NISMO-tuned suspension and brakes, a more aerodynamic design, stiffened suspension, wider wheels, and a more aggressive tire compound, the 2024 Nissan Z has high performance etched into its DNA. So let’s take a closer look at some of the more exciting features that this compact racer has to offer in its Sport, Performance, and NISMO grades.
1. 2024 Nissan Z Improved Design
The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO was redesigned to demonstrate greater aerodynamic performance on the race track. Following these changes, this car produces positive downforce.
The front of this car features a styling element known as the “Grand-Nose” or G-Nose” that extends further forward than other grades and calls back to a similar theme seen on the heritage Nissan Fairlady 240ZG.
The 2024 Nissan Z also features a redesigned grille opening with an extremely thin honeycomb mesh that is thinner than any other car in Nissan’s lineup. This mesh grille serves as the balance of reduced drag and allows cool air in the engine bay.
This car also features a taller, wider rear spoiler (as compared to Z Performance) with a three-piece design that extends onto the rear fenders. The rear bumper corners were inspired by the GT-R NISMO and were reshaped to help with air separation and reduce drag.
In addition to its improved bodywork design, the 2024 Nissan Z is available in five colors: Black Diamond Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Passion Red TriCoat, Everest White Pearl TriCoat, and NISMO-exclusive Stealth Grey.
2. Enhanced Twin-Turbo Engine
Because the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO aims to be the new face of performance for the sports car, it manages to do just that by cranking up the power of its twin-turbo V6 engine to produce 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. That is 20 horsepower and 34 lb-ft greater than the Nissan Z Sport and Performance trims.
This is achieved through the engine’s improved cooling system, revised electronic wastegate control that provides increased turbocharger boost and turbine speed, enhanced oil cooler for greater track performance, and an independent ignition spark timing strategy inspired by the GT-R NISMO.
3. Improved Suspension and Tires
The 2024 Nissan Z is the kind of well-rounded sports car that can handle the street as well as it can handle the race track. So to maintain that high standard of performance, engineers revised this car’s suspension for enhanced precision, predictability, and cornering grip. The NISMO version features unique stabilizer bars, stiffer spring rate, and larger dampers.
The main goal was to create an accurate “one-shot” steering that allows drivers to pick their line through a turn with a minimum of steering adjustment needed, creating racetrack-ready performance oozing with confidence.
In addition to its steering ability, the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO comes equipped with a set of Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT600 tires. The rear tires are measured at 10mm wider than those equipped on the 2024 Nissan Z Performance trim (285/35R19 vs 275/35R19), and they are fitted to the car’s lightweight, gloss black RAYS 19-inch wheels.
4. Track-Enhanced Braking System
While the 2024 Nissan Z will certainly be turning heads with its improved horsepower and torque, its braking abilities have also been enhanced to deliver more control when slowing down and stopping. To be specific, the NISMO version features larger, 15.0-inch rotors on its front brakes, and 13.8-inch rotors on the rear brakes, all while coupled with brake pads made from a performance-focused compound.
With these new changes, drivers will notice the Z’s brake pedal feel and improved braking performance during those longer days on the track.
5. Modern-Day Tech for a Modern-Day Sports Car
While this car boasts high performance and then backs it up on the track, it also features a plethora of tech upgrades to enhance the already exciting riding experience.
All 2024 Nissan Z models include a range of driver assistance and safety technologies that come as standard, such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, High Beam Assist and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning.
