Which F150 Engine Would A Ford Technician Pick?

If you’re looking to choose an engine for your new Ford F150 pickup, you have plenty of options. In the current lineup, you have the 2.7 liter EcoBoost, three different versions of the 3.5 liter V6, and of course, the 5.0 liter V8. Not only that but among the 3.5-liter options, there is the standard 3.5, the 3.5 EcoBoost, and the 3.5 EcoBoost High Output version that comes standard in the 2017 Raptor. So what do you go with?

With so many options, it may not be the easiest thing for a buyer to make up their mind, so Town and Country Ford did an informal poll of the people who would know best. They asked their service crew which engine they’d choose for their own personal trucks. Smart, right?

Since Town and Country is located in the heart of pickup country in a state that does zero emissions inspections, it’s really no surprise that the majority of the guys said they’d go with the 5.0 liter V8. A few also went with the 3.5 EcoBoost. With 385 horsepower and 387 ft-lbs of torque the 5.0 liter is a solid engine. It’s capable of towing anything you’d realistically want while still getting a respectable 19 MPG on the highway.

The 3.5 liter EcoBoost gets 23 MPH on the highway but you give up some power to achieve those numbers. Although it still makes 375 horsepower, the fact that it’s twin turbo means you have to get the revs up to get into the power, while the V8 has power available at any RPM. It says something that nobody chose the 2.7-liter version, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a solid value in the F150 world. We do think it’s cool to see this Alabama-based dealership getting in on the social media craze. Which would put in your truck?
