Ram Is Discontinuing Its Single-Cab Short-Bed Pickup Truck

It was once seen as the quintessential model for a pickup truck: simplicity in its purest form that gets the job done. Now it has been announced that Ram will be dropping production on its single-cab short-bed pickup truck.

Considering that the crew cab pickup truck consisted of over 80% of the truck market in 2020, according to a survey by JATO Dynamics, the single-cab model proceeded to fade into the background. It has become such a rarity that Ram only offers it on the Ram 1500 Classic, which was the previous-generation model that is still in production. Even so, the short cab model with the 6-foot-4-inch bed will soon be no longer.

It is believed that because the single-cab is only available on the Ram 1500 Classic’s two lowest-priced trims, there isn’t a lot of profit in it for Stellantis. Other theories suggest that it did not meet Stellantis’s CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) requirements.

Even though Ram will be closing the books on producing single-cab short-bed pickups, other automakers will be satisfying the demand. Chevrolet recently brought back its single-cab Silverado into the fold, as well as Ford with its 2023 Super Duty.
